Utah at Colorado: Three things to know

  1. After dropping a pair of games to USC and Washington to open the season, the Utes finally drank from the victory chalice last Saturday in a 30-24 win over Oregon State, although they did fail to cover the 14-point spread. The point total was a season-high, and it was the first Over result of the 2020 campaign after two Unders.
  2. Not only is Colorado 4-0, but it has also covered the spread in all four games, including both games in Boulder. The Buffaloes are rolling along with 432.0 total yards per game, including 245.5 rushing yards per contest to rank 10th in the nation. RB Jarek Broussard has run for 733 yards and 3 touchdowns across four games, with a gaudy 6.4 yards per carry average.
  3. Utah has cashed in each of the past four meetings in this border battle, but Colorado is 5-0 ATS in the past five games at home, and 5-1 ATS in the previous six conference games to tilt the trends in its favor.

Utah at Colorado: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Colorado 27, Utah 21

Money line (ML)

COLORADO (-140) hasn’t handled success that well in the past, and the Buffaloes have struggled against Utah (+115), too. It will be interesting to see if the Utes’ rushing defense, ranked 11th in the country, can contain Broussard and the Colorado rush attack. That’s key here.

Since the Buffs are at home, back the ranked side.

Against the spread (ATS)

COLORADO -3 (-105) has covered the spread in each of its four games to date, so don’t stop backing it now. Yes, eventually all good things come to an end, but keep riding the wave until it crashes.

Utah just isn’t very good this season. In the past, the Utes have had a bruising back like my personal favorite, Joe Williams, or Zack Moss. This season, Ty Jordan has been just OK, and not a game-changer like the aforementioned Williams or Moss. The difference in this one will be Colorado’s ability to run the ball on home field.

Over/Under (O/U)

Over 47.5 (-110) is the lean here, ever so slightly, although the Under is 4-1 in the past five meetings in this series. The best bet is to PASS on the total.
