Former USC QB JT Daniels granted immediate eligibility at Georgia

Quarterback JT Daniels was granted immediate eligibility at the University of Georgia, where he will compete to start right away.

Former USC quarterback JT Daniels announced on Twitter Monday morning that his waiver for immediate eligibility at the University of Georgia has been granted, and he will compete for a starting job with the Bulldogs in 2020.

“Thank you to the NCAA for granting me immediate eligibility and allowing me to play football this fall,” Daniels wrote. “I will not comment on the waiver or transfer, but look forward to a great 2020 season with my teammates.”

Daniels’ career with the Trojans did not go as planned. After an up-and-down freshman season in 2018, Daniels beat out incoming freshman Kedon Slovis for the starting job heading into the 2019 season.

After just one game, however, Daniels suffered an injury that allowed Slovis to take over – and he did so well as a true freshman that Daniels decided to continue his college career elsewhere.

It’s hard to blame Daniels, who is extremely talented in his own right, for wanting to find another opportunity to showcase his talent and potentially find his way into the NFL.

That likely was not going to happen at USC, barring an injury to Slovis, and now he gets to play right away thanks to the NCAA’s decision.
