USC women’s basketball opens at No. 3 in preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

USC women’s basketball is No. 3 in the new USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The Trojans are also No. 3 in the AP Poll, so they’re a consensus top-three team.

The USC women’s basketball program is preparing for a season marked by sky-high expectations in the new world of the Big Ten Conference. The Trojans are expected to do big things. The preseason edition of the USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll reflects that reality. The poll has USC opening at No. 3 behind national champion South Carolina and 2024 Final Four semifinalist Connecticut, the team which denied USC a trip to the Women’s Final Four.

USC is No. 3 in both the USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll, which was released earlier in October. The Trojans are therefore the consensus No. 3 team in the sport. If they can live up to that ranking this season, they will head to Tampa for the 2025 Women’s Final Four on April 4. That’s the goal for this season: Play in April on the final weekend of the women’s college basketball season.

With JuJu Watkins getting Kiki Iriafen and Talia Von Oelhoffen as new teammates, along with veteran Rayah Marshall and a very talented incoming class of freshmen (a recruiting class ranked No. 1 in the country), USC should have the depth, balance, versatility, skill, and defensive quality needed to rise to the top of the sport.

Keep in mind that top seeds in the Women’s NCAA Tournament host opening-round games. USC should be a lock to make the Sweet 16 and a heavy favorite to reach the Elite Eight. Everything is in place for USC to become a true heavyweight in women’s college basketball this season. We will cover the journey, which starts in just over a week.

USC women’s basketball drops to No. 10 in USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll

USC is still one of the top teams in the country, but two losses did put a dent in the Trojans’ ranking.

The USC Trojans women’s basketball team lost to Colorado on Sunday with JuJu Watkins fouling out of the game.

On Tuesday, the USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll has dropped the Trojans to No. 10, moving down from No. 4. Here are the top 10 teams in the poll:

1. South Carolina

2. Kansas State

3. Colorado

4. UCLA

5. Stanford

6. Iowa

7. North Carolina State

8. UConn

9. LSU

10. USC

Utah is No. 14 and Oregon State is at No. 25, so there are six Pac-12 Conference teams in the top 25.

The Trojans are now riding a two-game losing streak after losing to Utah by 20 and then losing to Colorado after their stunning win over UCLA.

USC faces Washington State at home and then Washington next, so it’s a perfect opportunity to string together a couple of victories before a tough road game against No. 6 Stanford on February 2.

The toughest stretch comes in February when USC faces Oregon State, Colorado, and Utah in the span of a week.

USC soars to No. 4, past UCLA, in USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll

#USC has its highest USA TODAY Sports WBB Poll ranking of the season.

The USC women’s basketball team is moving up in the world. The Trojans are No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll for January 16.

We wrote about USC’s projected NCAA Tournament seed after the gigantic win over previously unbeaten UCLA on Sunday:

“This win moves USC to 13-1 with a win over an elite opponent. The Trojans are almost certain to be a top-three seed at the NCAA Tournament. Only a collapse would prevent them from doing so. Provided that no collapse occurs, USC is firmly in the hunt for a No. 2 or No. 1 seed.

USC has fully arrived. Last season, the Trojans were an 8 seed. Now they’re in the big leagues and showing they can beat other top opponents.”

ESPN has USC as a projected No. 2 seed. The No. 4 ranking in the USA TODAY poll suggests the Trojans have a real shot at a No. 1 seed.

There are several other highlights to mention from the poll. Let’s go through them and mention how they relate to USC and the Pac-12:

USC rises to No. 5 in latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll

USC is a top-five team.

On Tuesday, the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll was released, and USC checked in at No. 5.

UCLA, Colorado, Stanford, Utah, and Washington are also ranked in the top 25, so it has been a huge season for the Pac-12 Conference so far. Colorado, Stanford, and Utah are all in the top 10 alongside the Los Angeles schools.

The USC women’s basketball team continues to make noise this season, and JuJu Watkins is a huge reason why.

The Trojans are 10-0 with wins over Ohio State, Seton Hall, Florida Gulf Coast, Penn State, and Long Beach State. They face UCLA on the road to begin conference play in a massive top-five showdown between the Los Angeles schools.

The Trojans’ offense has done the job. It is 21st in the nation in field goal percentage (47.7), 18th in 3-point shooting (38), and 35th in assists per game (17.5). Lindsay Gottlieb’s team is going to be a tough opponent once Pac-12 play begins, and the UCLA game will be a huge indication of where they stand.

USC is No. 5 in USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll

USC and UCLA are both in the top five, two and a half weeks before their December 30 showdown in Pauley Pavilion.

The USC Trojans women’s basketball team continues to make headlines led by superstar JuJu Watkins. Lindsay Gottlieb’s team is now 8-0 on the year and has moved up to No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Poll.

The Trojans have wins over Ohio State, Penn State, Florida Gulf Coast, and Seton Hall. They have won each of the last three games by at least 30 points.

The Trojans face CSU Fullerton and then Long Beach State before a huge top-five showdown at UCLA on December 30 to begin Pac-12 play.

There are five teams in the Pac-12 that are ranked and all of them are in the top 10. UCLA is unbeaten at No. 2, but Utah gave No. 1 South Carolina a battle this past weekend before losing a close game. The depth and quality in Pac-12 women’s basketball this season are off the charts.

USC is No. 8 in USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll

#USC is a top-eight team.

The USC Trojans are No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll.

The Trojans were No. 10 in the previous poll but moved up two spots due to Virginia Tech staying in place at No. 9 and UConn falling several spots.

USC is therefore a consensus top-eight team. The Trojans were No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Poll.

USC is one of five Pac-12 teams in the top eight of this poll, a sign of the conference’s depth and quality. UCLA is No. 2, Stanford No. 3, Utah No. 6, and Colorado No. 7.

Some people might wonder why Utah and Colorado, with one loss apiece, are ranked ahead of USC. With Utah, it’s hard to understand why the Utes are ahead of USC. Utah doesn’t yet have a high-end win on its resume. Colorado, though, has a legitimate case for being ranked ahead of USC despite one loss. The Buffaloes crushed defending national champion LSU earlier this season.

USC soars 11 spots in USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll

#USC moved from 21 to 10 in one week. The Women of Troy are No. 10 in both this poll and the Associated Press Poll.

The USC Trojans are No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll.

The Trojans moved up a whopping 11 spots, but the rise in the rankings is entirely deserved after beating Ohio State last week. Ohio State was a top-eight team, and the Trojans handled the Buckeyes 83-74 in a convincing victory. USC went from No. 21 to No. 10 in a hurry.

The Trojans are No. 10 in both the USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll and the Associated Press version of the women’s hoops top 25. It’s quite a rise for a program which is getting the job done on and off the court. Lindsay Gottlieb brought in two five-star commitments this past Saturday for the Class of 2024. USC is stacking elite players and quickly becoming a destination program in women’s college basketball.

Here is the rest of the poll. As you look at the rankings, note how many Pac-12 teams are in the top 10:
