Injured USWNT pair Fishel and Macario included in Chelsea USA tour squad

The two forwards are recovering from the effects of torn ACLs

Two U.S. women’s national team forwards got some positive health news this weekend, as Mia Fishel and Catarina Macario were included in Chelsea’s traveling roster for its preseason tour of the United States.

Both players missed the Olympics as they recovered from knee injuries, but the duo was healthy enough for inclusion on Sonia Bompastor’s 28-player roster.

After recovering from a torn ACL that kept her out nearly two years, Macario was forced out of the Olympics with “minor knee irritation.”

Fishel, meanwhile, tore her ACL in training with the USWNT back in February. The forward’s inclusion on Chelsea’s traveling squad is a positive indication that her recovery is progressing well.

Chelsea will play NJ/NY Gotham FC at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on Monday, before heading south for a match against London rival Arsenal at Audi Field in Washington D.C. on August 25.

The Blues are starting their first campaign under Bompastor, who took over as head coach after Emma Hayes departed to take over the USWNT.

Hayes enjoyed instant success in her first foray into the international game, leading the USWNT to an Olympic gold medal last weekend in just her 10th match in charge.

Kochen named to Barcelona squad for USA tour, Yamal misses out

The U.S. youth international will get another chance to impress with the first team

Barcelona has named a 31-man squad for its upcoming tour of the United States, with U.S. youth international goalkeeper Diego Kochen making the cut.

Kochen, 18, is one of four goalkeepers on the roster as Barcelona gets set for its third straight summer touring the U.S. during its preseason.

Several of Barcelona’s biggest names won’t make the trip as they continue recovering from injuries or international duty over the summer.

Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati are all injured, while Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres are still on vacation after helping Spain win Euro 2024.

Pau Cubarsí, Fermín López and Eric García will also miss out due to their current participation in the Olympics with Spain.

Barça will face Manchester City in Orlando on Tuesday, then travel to New Jersey for a preseason El Clásico against Real Madrid. The tour will conclude with a match against AC Milan in Baltimore.

For Kochen, the tour will be another chance to continue proving himself in a first-team environment.

The Florida native has emerged as a star in Barcelona’s academy, making his senior debut for the club in a December friendly against Club América, while also making the bench for several competitive fixtures last season.

Pulisic tells Fallon he’ll (maybe) do ‘Three Amigos’ salute if he scores vs. Man City

If Pulisic scores on Saturday, the tension will be enormous

Christian Pulisic didn’t exactly guarantee it, but there seems to be a decent chance the AC Milan star will break out an unorthodox celebration if he scores against Manchester City on Saturday.

Pulisic was a guest on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, as the U.S. men’s national team star made his late-night debut.

The forward was in New York promoting AC Milan’s three-game preseason tour of the USA, which kicks off Saturday at Yankee Stadium against the Premier League champions.

If Pulisic scores in that match, Fallon is hoping he’ll perform a throwback celebration that pays tribute to a movie that was released 12 years before he was born.

Fallon requested Pulisic perform the “Three Amigos” salute, with which the forward understandably didn’t seem to be familiar.

For those, like Pulisic, who don’t remember the 1986 classic starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short, the salute goes like this:

Fallon reenacted the salute in front of Pulisic and though he didn’t exactly get a guarantee that that USMNT star will honor the John Landis film if he finds the net at Yankee Stadium, it wasn’t a hard no either.

If Pulisic scores on Saturday, the tension will be enormous.

West Ham bus for USA tour features comically oversized bubble machine

The Hammers arrived in the United States while making a big statement

West Ham has arrived in the United States while making a big statement.

The Hammers unveiled a tour bus outfitted with a comically oversized bubble machine, parading through the streets of Tampa while shooting gigantic bubbles into the sky.

The bus is an ode to West Ham’s famous anthem, “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles,” which is played before every home game while bubbles are released into the air.

The Premier League side arrived in Florida on Sunday ahead of its first preseason tour of the U.S. since 2016. The team will stay in Florida for 16 days while playing two friendlies against Premier League rivals as part of the Stateside Cup.

West Ham will play Wolves on Saturday in Jacksonville before facing Crystal Palace in August 3 in Tampa.

“Hopefully after the trip to America, we’ll have answers to a lot of our questions,” said defender Kurt Zouma. “We’re playing against two strong sides, who obviously play in the Premier League, so it should be good for the fans to see, too.

“I am really excited to be in America! I’ve been to Los Angeles, but never Florida before, so it’s new and I’m looking forward to seeing what we get up to out here. I like American culture — like the NBA — so hopefully I can find out more about things like that.”

Report: Mbappe will skip Real Madrid summer tour of USA

Fans in the U.S. hoping to see the France star are set for a letdown

Real Madrid will be missing its biggest new attraction when it goes on a preseason tour of the United States.

According to The Athletic, Kylian Mbappé will not take part in the team’s three-game tour of the U.S., which begins later this month.

Mbappé was officially presented as a Real Madrid player this week, after finally completing a long-rumored switch from French power PSG.

The 25-year-old was asked at his presentation if he would take part in the U.S. tour and replied: “If the club wants me to go, I will go.”

The Champions League and La Liga winners are set for three friendlies in the U.S. as they ramp up preparations for the 2024-25 campaign.

Madrid will face AC Milan in Chicago on July 31, Barcelona in New Jersey on August 3, and will complete its tour with a game against Chelsea in Charlotte on August 6.

Rather than partake in any of those games, Mbappé will reportedly get an extended break and join up with his new teammates on August 7 upon their return to Madrid.

The France star’s Madrid debut would then likely come on August 14 in the European Super Cup against Atalanta in Warsaw, Poland.
