Ex-Broncos quarterback plans to unretire, return to NFL

Teddy Bridgewater plans to return to the NFL, and the Broncos might be seeking a backup quarterback this spring.

After serving as a backup quarterback with the Detroit Lions in 2023, Teddy Bridgewater retired from the NFL at age 31 and returned to his old high school, Miami Northwestern, as a coach.

In his first season coaching, Bridgewater led the Bulls to a state championship victory. Now he wants to return to the NFL.

“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater told Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on an episode of The Insiders on Tuesday. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and then come back February in the offseason, continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it plays out.”

Still only 32 years old, Bridgewater will now seek an eighth NFL team. He played for the Denver Broncos in 2021, going 7-7 as a starter. Interestingly, the Broncos might be in the market for a backup quarterback this spring as both Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson are scheduled to become free agents.

Bridgewater, a former first-round pick out of Louisville, has a 33-32 career win-loss record with 75 touchdowns on his resume.

Tom Brady just returned to Packers schedule in 2022

Tom Brady unretired on Sunday. That means the Bucs’ legendary quarterback will be on the Packers’ schedule during the 2022 season.

After a short retirement from the NFL, seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady is back, and he’ll be on the Green Bay Packers’ schedule in 2022.

Brady, who turns 45 in August, pulled a Brett Favre and announced his return on Sunday night. He confirmed he’ll be playing next season in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers.

Brady’s unexpected return to the Buccaneers means he’ll be on the Packers’ schedule in 2022. The Packers play the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay at an unknown time and date during the regular season this year.

If nothing else, Brady’s comeback ups the ante in the NFC and keeps open the possibility of one last showdown between Brady and Aaron Rodgers, who is returning to the Packers.

The Buccaneers and Packers were both division winners in 2021, setting up the matchup.

The NFL will release the official schedule later this spring. What looked like a far less interesting game a month and a half ago should now be a marquee matchup for the NFL in 2022.

The Packers and Buccaneers last played in the 2020 NFC Championship Game at Lambeau Field. Tampa Bay actually beat Green Bay twice in 2020, including a regular-season game at Raymond James Stadium.

With Rodgers and Brady back, expect the Packers and Buccaneers to be among the betting favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in 2022.
