Arkansas soccer debuts at No. 8 in preseason poll

For the second consecutive year, Arkansas will begin in the top 10 of the preseason polls in soccer.

The Arkansas soccer team will begin in the top 10 for the second consecutive season after making the Elite 8 a year ago.

United Soccer Coaches Association released its poll on Wednesday and the Razorbacks were eighth.

Arkansas will start in the top 15 for the fourth straight year. The regular season begins August 17 against Arkansas State.

Four of their opponents are also in the poll with the Razorbacks, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Alabama and Clemson.

Penn State Men’s Soccer trio named Scholar All-Americans

Penn State men’s soccer players Brandon Hackenberg, Seth Kuhn Pierre Reedy were named Scholar All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches.

Achievement on the playing field comes with hard work on the practice field. Achievement in the classroom comes through self-discipline outside of the classroom and the practice field. Three Penn State soccer players proved they had the goods on the field and in the classroom.

On Thursday, the United Soccer Coaches named their Scholar All-America Team. Three Penn State Men’s Soccer players were included in that list; Brandon Hackenberg, Seth Kuhn, and Pierre Reedy.

Brandon Hackenberg and Pierre Reedy were named to the first team while Seth Kuhn made the 2nd team.

The three Nittany Lions are the program’s first Scholar All-Americans from United Soccer Coaches since David Walters in 2004.

Penn State’s men’s soccer team made the NCAA Tournament and defeated UMass in their second-round matchup (Penn State had a bye in the first round). But the Nittany Lions saw their tournament run come to a brief end with a tough 3-2 loss to Georgetown in the third round. Georgetown lost to eventual national champion Marshall, who edged Indiana 1-0 in the national championship game.
