Seahawks wearing blue on blue uniforms vs. Rams in Week 1

Last year the Seahawks went 3-2 wearing their usual home uniform, including their Week 18 win over the Rams to conclude the 2022 regular season.

The Seattle Seahawks are one day away from kicking off against the Los Angeles Rams. There is still plenty we need to find out about this Seahawks team, but there is something we do know right now:

The all important uniform combo for Sunday.

Seattle is sticking to the basics for Week 1, and that means they’re wearing their usual home blues.

Last year the Seahawks went 3-2 wearing their usual home uniform, including their Week 18 win over the Rams to conclude the 2022 regular season. Seattle enjoys plenty of wins with these threads, having gone 63-24 overall when wearing them since the 2012 Nike redesign.

As a reminder, the Seahawks had to retire the all gray uniforms this year. Since they opted to bring in their throwback uniforms, Seattle was forced to move on. This means the Seahawks can no longer wear their blue jersey/gray pants combo during home games.

The Seahawks will look to keep up their winning ways in the all blues with a victory on Sunday.

Seahawks to ditch Wolf Gray alternate uniforms

The Wolf Grays will be retired with a 13-2-1 all time record with the Seahawks wearing them.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

On Wednesday morning, the Seattle Seahawks finally unveiled their throwback uniforms. The beloved royal blue and silver threads will be making their return to the field for the first time since 2001, and fans are understandably thrilled to see them in action in Week 8 against the Browns.

However, with the throwbacks does come a bit of a trade off. The NFL has a strict uniform policy, where teams are limited to only four. Each team gets a home and away, as well as two alternates. Since the Seahawks already have two alternates – Wolf Gray and Action Green – a tough decision had to be made.

As John Boyle writes on the Seahawks website, it seems Wolf Gray drew the short straw. After internal deliberation, Seattle decided to stick with the Action Green (thanks to a reported Pete Carroll tiebreaker, no less).

Given the five options, moving on from Wolf Gray – which was apart of the radical Nike uniform reintroduction in 2012 – makes the most sense. With the modern home and aways, the Action Green, and now the magnificent throwbacks, the Seahawks have the best assortment of uniform combos in the league.

Still, while it may have been the “right” decision, it is still a bit sad to see them go. They might have been the most popular of the available options, but Seattle won a lot of games in them. As it stands, the Wolf Grays will be retired with a lofty 13-2-1 record all time.

On the flip side, no more Wolf Grays means the Seahawks will no longer be tempted to wear their white jersey with the gray pants. Seattle was 3-9 all time wearing that dreaded combination.

The Wolf Grays will always have a small part of Seahawks lore. I for one will always appreciate them, and have always been a fan. The franchise entered their golden age with them in the fold. The Legion of Boom grew into their own in them, as their on-field debut in 2012 was a monumental obliteration of the Buffalo Bills to the tune of 50-17.

Seattle’s last victory came 11 years later in 2022 with their 31-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Seahawks win/loss record by uniform combination

Here are the most current records for each uniform Seattle has worn for the past eleven years, including playoffs.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a bit of a fixation on uniforms, uniform combinations, and the win/loss record with each specific combo. Maybe it’s superstition, maybe it’s a unique fascination, or maybe I simply have too much time on my hands.

Whatever the reason may be, this season I decided to go back and find out what the win/loss record was for each specific uniform combination the Seahawks have worn. When Nike became the official uniform sponsor of the NFL in 2012, the Seahawks got a major upgrade and haven’t looked back since.

With the 2022 season officially wrapped up and in the books, here are the most current records for each uniform Seattle has worn for the past 11 years, including playoffs.

All Blue: 63-24

All White: 7-9

White Jersey/Blue Pants: 24-19

White Jersey/Gray Pants: 3-9

Blue Jersey/Gray Pants: 5-6

All Gray: 13-2-1

Action Green: 5-1

Green Jersey/Blue Pants: 3-1

LOOK: Ducks unveil clean green and white jerseys for Pac-12 After Dark game vs. Washington State

The hits keep on coming. Oregon will be rocking this clean green and white uni combo for Saturday night against Washington State.

The Oregon Ducks are pulling out the stops for Saturday night’s game against the Washington State Cougars, announcing a very clean green and white jersey combination for the nationally televised game on ESPN.

Oregon’s matchup with Washington State is certainly intriguing, especially considering the recent trend of games that have taken place when these two teams meet up. The last time the Cougars were in Autzen Stadium, Oregon relied on a game-winning field goal from then true-freshman Camden Lewis to keep the No. 11 Ducks’ season alive.

It comes as no surprise that the Ducks will be looking clean on Saturday night, decked out in apple green and white helmets. It may be dark out by the time the game kicks off, but Oregon will be shining on the sideline.

LOOK: Oregon Ducks announce black and yellow jersey combo for Colorado matchup

A classic black-and-yellow look. That’s what the Oregon Ducks will be going with for this Saturday afternoon game vs. Colorado.

Whether you liked the ‘eggshell’ uniforms from last week against the UCLA Bruins or not, the Oregon Ducks were able to find some massive success in their trip to Los Angeles, getting a much-needed win over the Bruins.

It appears that the Ducks are going back to the well this week with another innovative look, this time going with a black-and-yellow combo that many Oregon fans will be fond of.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, but this season of uniforms has been on the Mount Rushmore for the Ducks. It started off with a bang in Week 1 with the bright green-and-yellow combo that has become a fan favorite, and has also included an impressive white-out vs. Ohio State, one of the more impressive black-out’s we’ve seen from this Oregon team. Again, whether you liked last week’s ‘eggshell’ look or not, it was still something that drew a lot of attention to the program for being different.

LOOK: Oregon releases all white uniform combo for Ohio State Game

Oregon released their uniforms for the Ohio State game, calling back to the “Storm LA” trip to USC in the Chip Kelly era.

Back when the Oregon Ducks were at the peak of their powers in the Chip Kelly era, they went down to USC wearing an all-white uniform combination that made them look like Stormtroopers out of the Star Wars movie. The slogan for the trip was “Storm L.A.”

Mario Cristobal said earlier in the week that he isn’t one to make t-shirt slogans or fun catch phrases, but the jerseys that Oregon will be wearing against Ohio State this weekend are definitely making a statement.

An all-white combo that is similar to the Storm LA era, these Ducks jerseys are accented with green on the shoulders, and the helmets. They look fast and clean, and will certainly make a good impression on the national stage.

Now Oregon just needs to back it up with their play.

Saints wearing white jerseys, gold pants to close out the regular season

The New Orleans Saints shared a uniform update, announcing that they are wearing white jerseys and gold pants against the Carolina Panthers.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”Je0Xdympjd-1092529-7498″]

Here’s a bit of a surprise: after initially announcing that they would use white jerseys and black pants in Week 17’s matchup with the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints have instead shared an update on the week’s uniform combo. They’ll still be wearing white away jerseys, but this time with gold trousers.

It’s the first time we’ve seen this look since the 2017 season. The gold pants last made an appearance in 2019 Week 2’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams (worn with black jerseys), but they haven’t been paired with white jerseys since 2017 Week 17’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This white jerseys-gold pants combo has been one of the more popular sets used in the Sean Payton era, going back to 2006. The Saints have worn it 55 times in that span, but only won 31 of those games — a winning percentage of .564, the lowest of all seven uniform combinations used by New Orleans since 2006:

  1. White jerseys, white pants: 6-2 (.750)
  2. “Color Rush” alternates: 8-3 (.727)
  3. “Black and Gold” throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
  4. Black jerseys, gold pants: 23-13 (.639)
  5. White jerseys, black pants: 41-25 (.621)
  6. Black jerseys, black pants: 45-29 (.608)
  7. White jerseys, gold pants: 31-24 (.564)

Maybe they can end the 2020 regular season on a high note and start to buck that narrative with a win at Carolina.

Saints announce Week 17 uniform combination vs. Panthers

The New Orleans Saints will pair white away jerseys with white pants again in the 2019 season, next in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers

The New Orleans Saints will again pair white jerseys with white pants, the team announced on its official Twitter account. This is the fifth time the Saints have used this uniform combination this season, eschewing the gold pants that were used regularly in past years. Including their “Color Rush” alternate uniforms, the Saints will have worn black or white pants in every regular season game in 2019.

New Orleans recently broke out the all-white uniforms for their Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium, and they’ll be carried over for Week 17 with the Carolina Panthers. Like the other road venues the Saints have played at in these white pants, the Panthers’ Bank of America Stadium features a natural grass field (Voyager Bermuda grass, to be exact; it is the only NFL stadium to use that variety), which means nightmarish grass stains for the Saints equipment staff to deal with.

The Saints have held their own this year against a series of opponents including Tifway 419 Bermuda grass (Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium), Kentucky Bluegrass (Chicago Bears at Soldier Field), and TifSport Hybrid Bermudagrass (Titans at Nissan StadiuM), but keep the equipment staff in your thoughts in this difficult time.

Superstitious fans should be happy: though the Saints have only worn this combination four times previously since Sean Payton was hired to coach the team (all in 2019), they have yet to lose a game in white-on-white. We’ve ranked every uniform combination used by the Saints since 2006, ordered by winning percentage (don’t forget the alternate gold jerseys worn during a 2002 loss to the Minnesota Vikings):

  • White jerseys, white pants: 4-0 (1.000)
  • “Color Rush” alternates: 6-2 (.750)
  • Black and gold throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
  • Black jerseys, gold pants: 23-13 (.639)
  • White jerseys, black pants: 38-25 (.603)
  • Black jerseys, black pants: 41-27 (.603)
  • White jerseys, gold pants: 31-24 (.564)

Saints announce uniform combination for Week 15 vs. Colts

The New Orleans Saints will wear black jerseys and black pants in their Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football

[jwplayer yGcuEl0y-XNcErKyb]

The New Orleans Saints revealed the uniform combination they will wear during their Week 15 game on “Monday Night Football” against their Indianapolis Colts: black jerseys paired with black pants. The announcement was made in a post from the team’s official Twitter account, which included a brief video of running back Alvin Kamara celebrating a big play in EA Sports’ Madden NFL 20. You can find it where it’s embedded below, or by clicking this link.

It’s been a common look this season, with the Saints most recently using it in last week’s game with the San Francisco 49ers (and six times this season in total, going 4-2).

For curious fans: the black-on-Black combo look carries a solid win percentage in the modern era, going back in 2006. We’d be remiss to not mention the alternate gold jerseysused during a 2002 game against the Minnesota Vikings, which they lost 32-31. The gold jerseys haven’t been seen again.

Here is every uniform combination used by the Saints during the Sean Payton era, listed by winning percentage:

  • White jerseys, white pants: 3-0 (1.000)
  • “Color Rush” alternates: 6-2 (.750)
  • Black and gold throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
  • Black jerseys, gold pants: 23-13 (.639)
  • White jerseys, black pants: 38-25 (.603)
  • Black jerseys, black pants: 40-27 (.597)
  • White jerseys, gold pants: 31-24 (.564)

Saints wearing Color Rush uniforms on Thanksgiving vs. Falcons

The New Orleans Saints will be wearing their Color Rush uniforms for their Thanksgiving night road game against the Atlanta Falcons.

[jwplayer EWg6LERn]

The NFL allows teams to wear alternate jerseys only three times per season, and the New Orleans Saints already used their Color Rush variants twice in Weeks 3 (on the road with the Seattle Seahawks) and 4 (at home against the Dallas Cowboys), winning both games. Now, they’ll be wearing the clean Color Rush duds for the third and final time of the 2019 season on Thanksgiving night versus the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced on social media.

It’s frustrating that New Orleans can’t use these stellar uniforms more often. Write the NFL’s New York office, your local members of Congress, or any other authority figures and petition them to promote the Color Rush specials to full-time use as the Saints’ away jersey-pants combination.

For their part, the Falcons are pairing their black throwback jerseys with white pants, which they announced earlier this year in their 2019 uniform schedule. Comparing that uniform against New Orleans’ Color Rush creates one seriously dynamic combination.

As for superstitious fans: here are the win/loss records for every uniform combination the Saints have used since Sean Payton was hired as head coach back in 2006. While this list is focused on that time frame, it’s worth remembering that the Saints also wore alternate gold jerseys during a 2002 game against the Minnesota Vikings, which they lost 32-31. Those jerseys haven’t been seen since.

  • White jerseys, white pants: 3-0 (1.000)
  • Color Rush alternates: 5-2 (.714)
  • Black and Gold throwbacks: 2-1 (.667)
  • Black jerseys, gold pants: 23-13 (.639)
  • Black jerseys, black pants: 40-26 (.606)
  • White jerseys, black pants: 38-25 (.603)
  • White jerseys, gold pants: 31-24 (.564)
