An epic battle on Tobacco Road is set to take place on Thursday night in Chapel Hill as the North Carolina Tar Heels prepare to host the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a matchup between two Atlantic Coast Conference rivals.
The Tar Heels come in holding onto a handful of votes in the Associate Press Poll as a result of their 17-9 overall mark and 9-5 record against ACC competition. UNC had lost four in a row — including two overtime games —before a recent stretch of success gave them a pair of victories.
The Wolfpack are ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll with a superior 23-3 overall record that has them among the best in the business his season with all three losses coming in 14 tries against fellow conference members. N.C. State has won its last three but the most recent triumph came at home in overtime over the mediocre Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The North Carolina Tar Heels will host the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.

The visitors clearly have the overall edge in this one but don’t count out the Tar Heels, who are 12-2 this season inside Carmichael Arena. Then again, the Wolfpack are 10-2 away from their friendly confines, so something will have to give.
