Former five-star UNC basketball recruiting target decommits from NC State

A former five-star UNC basketball recruiting target has decommitted from NC State just months after committing.

A former UNC basketball recruiting target is back on the market.

Five-star guard Robert Dillingham revealed on his Instagram page that he is decommitting from NC State just a few months after pledging his commitment to Kevin Keatts’ program. Dillingham will still consider the Wolfpack but is reopening his recruitment moving forward.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pound Dillingham is a Charlotte native that moved out to California to play for the new Donda Academy created by Kanye West. He’s ranked as a top 10 player in the 2023 class and the No. 1 point guard in the country per 247Sports.

Dillingham has a total of 21 offers and received his offer from Roy Williams and UNC back on Christmas in 2020. The Tar Heels made a strong push but as soon as Hubert Davis was hired, they appeared to back off a bit.

The recruit eventually committed to NC State over Memphis, Kentucky, and other programs.

It’s hard to tell if UNC will go back into this recruitment and be a contender but it’s certainly something to monitor moving forward.

UNC basketball commit Seth Trimble POTY honors in Wisconsin

Four-star UNC basketball commit Seth Trimble picks up a big honor on Wednesday as his season winds down.

Class of 2022 UNC basketball commit Seth Trimble is hoping to end his senior year at Menomonee Falls with a state title. He helped lead his team to the WIAA Division 1 State Semifinals this Friday with the chance to advance to the title game.

But before then, Trimble picked up a big honor as his high school career winds down.

On Wednesday, Trimble was named the Gatorade Wisconsin Boys Basketball Player of the Year as he announced via his Twitter account. The award is given out each year to the top player in every state and then a national award is handed out.

Trimble is averaging 27.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as he has been a key component for Menomonee Falls success this season. The four-star guard has also upped his recruiting stock as well, being UNC’s highest-ranked recruit in the 247Sports rankings.

The 6-foot-3, 184-pound combo guard picked UNC over 13 other offers including Iowa, Illinois, Creighton, Wisconsin, USC, and Virginia among others.

Does firing of Frank Martin change G.G. Jackson recruitment?

South Carolina has fired Frank Martin and it could have big ramifications on UNC basketball target G.G. Jackson.

The University of South Carolina is moving on from men’s head basketball coach Frank Martin according to a report on Monday and it could have severe ramifications for a top UNC basketball recruiting target.

Jeff Borzello reported the news on Monday afternoon after the Gamecocks finished the season 18-13 overall and 9-9 in SEC play, missing the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight season not counting the 2020 canceled tournament. After making that run in 2017, Martin has struggled which led to the decision.

And now it could impact five-star recruit G.G. Jackson’s decision.

The in-state prospect is mulling his decision and all signs point to it being a three-team race between North Carolina, South Carolina, and Duke. The Tar Heels were the perceived leaders in the recruitment at one point but since he took visits to both Duke and South Carolina, both teams made up ground.

However, the dismissal of Martin is likely going to change things and until they have a replacement intact, this could be a Blue Blood battle down the wire.

Jackson’s father maintains he’s still not close to a decision and they very well could wait for a South Carolina hire. Or it could eliminate them from the race and things start to pick up. It should be an interesting next few months either way.
