Video: Jeremiah Wells puts Court McGee out cold for fifth straight finish

It’s not easy to finish Court McGee, but Jeremiah Wells made it look like it was.

It’s not easy to finish [autotag]Court McGee[/autotag], but [autotag]Jeremiah Wells[/autotag] made it look like it was.

Wells (11-2-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) took out McGee (21-11 MMA, 10-10 UFC) with a brutal first-round knockout in their middleweight bout on the UFC on ESPN 37 preliminary card Saturday in Austin, Texas. Wells needed just 94 seconds to get the job done.

“It’s not (surprising). I visualized this,” Wells said. “I’m doing to dudes what people have not done. He’s not been stopped, he’s not been submitted. I was hoping to submit him, but I stopped him.”

Wells threw a left jab, then missed with a right hand. McGee backed up, but with his hands down was in perfect range for Wells’ left hand. He landed flush, and McGee quickly fell to the canvas. Wells landed two more shots on the canvas that were almost certainly unnecessary before Herb Dean could get over to stop the fight.

Wells ran his winning streak to five straight – all by finish. McGee had only been finished one other time in his career, and it was more than six years ago.

UFC on ESPN 37 video: Ricardo Ramos hits another insane spinning elbow KO

Watch Ricardo Ramos pull off an insane spinning elbow KO at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 37.

[autotag]Ricardo Ramos[/autotag] just put his name in the pool for Knockout of the Year.

The UFC featherweight pulled off an incredible spinning elbow KO at UFC on ESPN 37 on Saturday in Austin, Texas. Ramos (16-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) slept a tough Danny Chavez 72 seconds into the first round.

It was flawless performance by Ramos.

The Brazilian immediately looked to pressure Chavez (11-5-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) and walk him down as soon as the fight started. Closing in on Chavez near the cage, Ramos spun and clipped Chavez right on the temple with a hard elbow. Chavez was quickly out and dropped to the canvas.

The win got Ramos back in the win column. He was coming off a unanimous decision loss to Zubaira Tukhugov in October 2021 at UFC 267.

UFC on ESPN 37 video: Cody Stamann runs through Eddie Wineland with 59-second TKO win

Cody Stamann returned to the win column with a quick TKO over Eddie Wineland at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 37.

[autotag]Cody Stamann[/autotag] can breathe a little easier.

The UFC bantamweight bounced back from his worst career slump at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 37 in Austin, Texas. Stamann (20-5-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC) needed just 59 seconds to dispatch former WEC champion [autotag]Eddie Wineland[/autotag] on the preliminary card.

Stamann clipped Wineland (24-16-1 MMA, 6-10 UFC) with a straight left early on the fight, and from there it was all downhill for Wineland. Wobbled and dazed, Wineland tried his best to recover and even fired back a few shots of his own, but Stamann stayed on him and kept connecting with combinations until the referee stopped the action.

Stamann was on a three-fight skid. His most recent win prior to UFC on ESPN 37 came in June 2020, when he outpointed Brian Kelleher.

It was a quick finish. Dolidze pressed Daukaus against the cage, and in the clinch position blasted Daukaus with a knee to the chin. Daukaus immediately dropped to the canvas just to take a few following shots before the referee stopped the bout.

Batman returns: Kevin Holland stops perfume thief in Austin on eve of UFC on ESPN 37, says witness

“We opened up our cardio and chased a crack head. That’s how we did it.”

[autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] might just be a real life Batman.

For at least the fourth time in recent months, Holland jumped into action to stop crime, according to his manager Oren Hodak, of KO Reps, and a witness. The incident occurred less than 24 hours prior to his UFC on ESPN 37 bout Saturday against Tim Means.

While Holland awaited reservations Friday in Austin, Texas, he and his team stopped by a liquor store to grab some waters around 8:30 local time.

That’s when Holland and team witness a foot chase in the distance, according to Hodak. After the man in pursuit shouted something about a stolen item, Holland ran after him, took him down, and retrieved the allegedly stolen items, which turned out to be bottles of perfume.

In a video provided by Hodak to MMA Junkie, a man who allegedly witnessed Holland’s dismantling, recounted what happened from his perspective.

“I saw two guys running after some other guy and I thought they were just f*cking around, playing,” the man said. “Then, I heard one of the guys chasing say, ‘If you drop it, I won’t f*ck you up.’ I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t. That guy got robbed.’ Before I pulled out my phone to record any of it, they were long gone.”

A sweat-drenched Holland also provided perspective in the video.

“So we’re just sitting out here with nothing to do,” Holland said. “We had got some water from a liquor and wine stop with (coach). Then we see some guy running down the street, so we opened up our cardio and chased a crack head. That’s how we did it. That’s what we did today.”

The latest bound of heroism comes in a multimonth stretch of Holland making similar headlines. In October, Holland allegedly apprehended a car thief. In March, he was part of a successful takedown of a gunman in a Texas sushi restaurant. In May, he revealed he recently helped rescue a driver of an 18-wheeler that had tipped over on the side of a highway.

“I’m still a thug at the end of the day,” Holland told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a pre-fight news conference Wednesday. “I still do thuggish sh*t. I take the glasses off? Sh*t gets bad. I keep the glasses on? Shit stays good. So as long as I keep the glasses on, I think we’re good to go. (I’m) more Superman than Batman.”

Joe Lauzon injured, fight at UFC on ESPN 37 vs. Donald Cerrone off again

The fight between UFC lightweight veterans has fallen apart again just hours before the event in Austin, Texas.

AUSTIN – Once again, the bout between [autotag]Joe Lauzon[/autotag] and [autotag]Donald Cerrone[/autotag] will not take place.

The lightweight bout initially scheduled to take place a month ago at UFC 274 has once again fallen apart just hours before the second attempt at making the fight happen at UFC on ESPN 37. The first booking was scrapped due to Cerrone becoming ill on fight day. This time, Lauzon’s left knee locked up on him after official weigh-ins on Friday.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news following an initial report from Ariel Helwani.

Lauzon also explained the situation on his fight week vlog.

“So, I’m not fighting Cowboy Cerrone tonight,” Lauzon said in a video posted to Instagram. “The freakiest, weirdest thing ever. I weigh in officially, everything’s fine, I go to sit down in the chairs where all the fighters are, and I go to put my socks on. … I turn my knee out, and my knee locks up.”
