UFC on ESPN+ 35: Ottman Azaitar vs. Khama Worthy odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 35 fight between Ottman Azaitar and Khama Worthy, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and bets.

In a lightweight bout, Ottman Azaitar and Khama Worthy tangle at UFC on ESPN+ 35 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 8 p.m. ET.

Azaitar (12-0) checks into this one against Worthy (16-6) three inches shorter and with a three-inch reach disadvantage. The switch-stance Moroccan fighter, nicknamed “Bulldozer,” represents the Jupps Fight Team. The 30-year-old made his UFC debut with a first-round KO/TKO against Teemu Packalen just 3:33 into his career at UFC 242. In 12 career professional victories, Azaitar has finished inside the distance 11 times, with the lone exception a unanimous decision win over Kevin Koldobsky at Brave Combat Federation – Brave 2: Dynasty back on Dec. 2, 2016.

Worthy has just two UFC level fights under his belt but is a perfect 2-0. He won his UFC debut with a KO/TKO of Devonte Smith at UFC 241 (Aug. 17, 2019), followed by a June 27 submission victory in Round 3 over Luis Pena on the Poirier-Hooker card. While both of Worthy’s UFC level fights have finished inside the distance, 18 of his 22 professional fights have also not needed the judges. He heads into this one on a seven-fight win streak, with his last loss a KO loss to Kyle Nelson at BTC 1: Genesis back in May of 2017.

WORTHY (-139) is the more experienced fighter here, and he’ll push past Azaitar (+115). He has a nice three-inch reach advantage to keep Azaitar at arm’s length. Worthy can win it either by KO/TKO, submission or decision. Taking WORTHY BY KO/TKO, DQ or SUBMISSION (+137) is a strong value on the 5-way line. In addition, getting round specific is a good idea. Bet for the fight to finish in both ROUND 2 (+270) and ROUND 3 (+480). Yes, you obviously can’t win both, but if the fight ends in either of those rounds, you’ll still be well ahead.

UFC on ESPN+ 35: Roxanne Modafferi vs. Andrea Lee odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 35 fight between Roxanne Modafferi and Andrea Lee, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and bets.

In a women’s flyweight bout, Roxanne Modafferi and Andrea Lee lock horns at UFC on ESPN+ 35 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 8 p.m. ET.

Modafferi (24-18) – a.k.a. “The Happy Warrior” – is one of the most unique fighters in all of UFC. She definitely marches to the beat of her own drum, and looks more like a librarian or Comic-Con attendee rather than a mixed martial artist. But don’t be fooled, she has a mean streak, and she has a 4-1 record via KO/TKO and 5-3 by way of submission in her professional career. However, all of those fights inside the distance came before reaching the UFC level. She is 2-3 since moving to the UFC level, and all five of her fights have been decisions, with three unanimous-decision losses and a win by unanimous decision and one by split decision.

As far as Lee (11-4) is concerned, she will be looking for revenge against Modafferi. The two met back on Dec. 5, 2014, at Invicta FC 10 with Modafferi winning by a split decision – that card, like this one, was also highlighted by Michelle Waterson. Like Modafferi, Lee has five fights under her belt at the UFC level, with all five bouts going the distance. She has won three of those fights by unanimous decisions, and the two losses were by split decision.

Roxanne Modafferi vs. Andrea Lee betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:55 a.m. ET.

Taking MODAFFERI (+255) is a very tempting play, and worth betting lightly. She has a win in her career against Lee already, albeit a while ago, and the difference between the two fighters is very small. For a better value, taking MODAFFERI BY DECISION (+400) can help you quadruple your bankroll. If she does, in fact, pull the upset, it will be by decision. Each of these fighters have gone the distance in all five of their UFC level bouts. However, taking Yes (-313): “Will the fight go the distance?” is just too much risk and not much reward.

UFC on ESPN+ 35: Ed Herman vs. Mike Rodriguez odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 35 fight between Ed Herman and Mike Rodriguez, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and bets.

In a light heavyweight bout, Ed Herman and Mike Rodriguez do battle at UFC on ESPN+ 35 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 8 p.m. ET.

Herman (26-14) steps into the octagon as a decisive underdog, and he is on the short end of most of the measurables. He stands three inches shorter than Rodriguez (11-4), and he has a 5½-inch reach disadvantage. In addition, Rodriguez holds a 4.59 to 3.33 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, and he also leads at 54.80 to 49.66 in significant strikes-accuracy percentage. As long as the southpaw Rodriguez manages to avoid going to the canvas, he should be able to steer clear of trouble.

Herman has advantages in takedown average, 2.20 to 0.00, and submission average, 1.17 to 0.00. That’s really the only area he has a distinct advantage, and you know that’s gotta be in his game plan. Herman – nicknamed “Short Fuse” – has bounced back after a three-bout losing streak from July 30, 2016 to Oct. 27, 2018, knocking out Patrick Cummins on May 18, 2019 before posting a unanimous-decision victory over Khadis Ibragimov last time out on Nov. 9, 2019.

Ed Herman vs. Mike Rodriguez betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:33 a.m. ET.

The price on Rodriguez (-239) is a little steep, as you have to risk more than two times your potential return, and that’s not a risk I am willing to take. Betting RODRIGUEZ BY KO/TKO, DQ or SUBMISSION (-139) is a much better bet on the 5-way line. You can bet Rodriguez by KO/TKO or DQ (-134) on the 7-way line, taking out the submission result, but it isn’t that much cheaper. In fact, the difference is negligible, so why limit yourself?

As far as the fight length is concerned, betting No (-228): “Will the fight go the distance?” is a bit too expensive. Go with UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-189), which is a little more affordable.

UFC on ESPN+ 35: Billy Quarantillo vs. Kyle Nelson odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 35 fight between Billy Quarantillo and Kyle Nelson, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and bets.

In a featherweight bout, Billy Quarantillo and Kyle Nelson mix it up at UFC on ESPN+ 35 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 8 p.m. ET.

Quarantillo (14-2) picked up a unanimous decision victory over Spike Carlyle last time out on May 30, moving to 2-0 since arriving at the UFC’s top level. He also had a submission win over Jacob Kilburn in his debut Dec. 7, 2019 on the Overeem-Rozenstruik card. Overall, Quarantillo has sipped from the chalice of victory in seven straight pro fights since his last setback, a TKO loss to Michel Quinones April 1, 2016 at AFC: Absolute Fighting Championship 25, No Foolin’. Five of his past six fights have finished inside the distance.

Nelson (13-3) has a nice overall record as a professional, but he is just 1-2 since arriving at the UFC level on Dec. 8, 2018. The good news is that he picked up a first-round KO/TKO of Marco Polo Reyes in his last fight (Sept. 21, 2019) so he’ll look to build upon that. All three of his UFC fights have ended inside the distance, and each of his past six pro fights haven’t gone the distance. In 16 career pro fights, six have ended via KO/TKO (5-1), while five have finished by way of submission (4-1).

Billy Quarantillo vs. Kyle Nelson betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:05 a.m. ET.

Quarantillo (-250) is a bit on the pricey side on the 2-way line, so you’ll have to get a little more specific to minimize your risk. QUARANTILLO BY KO/TKO, DQ or SUBMISSION (+105) is a much better bet at near even-money. The only way you can lose is if he wins by decision, or of course, he loses.

Nelson’s two losses at the UFC level have finished inside the distance, but they were in the second round or later. As such, bet for this fight to finish in ROUND 2 (+320) and ROUND 3 (+600). There is a high likelihood the fight finishes in either of those two rounds, and while you’ll lose one of those wagers, you can still be well ahead if either comes through. Betting NO (-186): “WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?” is just a little more expensive than I typically like to bet, but it’s a sound wager that will win.

UFC on ESPN+ 35: Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 35 fight between Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and bets.

In the main event, Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill tangle in a women’s strawweight bout at UFC on ESPN+ 35 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The prelims kick off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 8 p.m. ET.

Waterson (17-8) checks into this one as a slight underdog. She has a 2½-inch reach disadvantage, and while she has a 52.86 to 49.58 significant strike-accuracy percentage, Hill (12-8) is well ahead at 5.76 to 3.31 in significant strikes landed per minute. Waterson – a.k.a. “The Karate Hottie” – also has a 1.68 to 0.47 takedown average, 50.0 to 37.5 takedown-accuracy percentage and 1.05 to 0.16 submission-average advantage. Waterson lost her last two fights by decisions, falling May 9 to Carla Esparza at UFC 249 and to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the main event on Oct. 12, 2019.

Hill – nicknamed “Overkill” – is looking to bounce back from a disappointing split-decision loss to Claudia Gadelha May 16 in Jacksonville, Fla. The defeat snapped a three-fight winning streak, her longest at the UFC level. Hill is an impressive puncher, and could be very successful as long as she can avoid going to the mat with Waterson. Hill is a perfect 5-0 via KO/TKO in 20 career pro fights, but she is 0-2 by way of the submission, and that’s an area of concern when backing the favorite.

Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill betting odds

The punching machine HILL (-125) should overwhelm Waterson (+105), who likes to pick and choose her spots. The only concern with picking Hill over Waterson is her ability to avoid the canvas. She has never won by way of submission, and has lost twice by tapping out.

As far as getting specific, look for this fight to finish via HILL BY DECISION/TECHNICAL DECISION (+120) on the method of victory. There is a tremendous chance this fight will go the distance, which is likely why the juice is so high. Yes (-313): ‘Will the fight go the distance?’ is almost a certainty, but at the same time, that’s just too expensive for my blood.
