UFC on ESPN 33: Matt Brown vs. Bryan Barberena odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 33 odds and lines between Matt Brown vs. Bryan Barberena, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a welterweight bout on the main card, Matt Brown and Bryan Barberena meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 33 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 33 Brown vs. Barberena odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Brown heads into this one looking to build upon a second-round KO/TKO win over Dhiego Lima last time out in June. Eight of his last nine fights have finished inside the distance, with six KO/TKO results (3-3) during the span.

Barberena is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over Darian Weeks Dec. 4. Each of his last three bouts has gone the distance, with two victories. However, he does have three stoppages in his last six fights, with three KO/TKO results (1-2).

UFC on ESPN 33 Brown vs. Barberena: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Brown (25-18-0) | Barberena (16-8-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

The veteran Brown, a.k.a. “The Immortal”, steps into the octagon with BARBERENA (-112) — a fighter nine years his junior whom I like to win this bout. The 32-year-old Barberena isn’t exactly a spring chicken but he has taken his time lately getting to the end of fights while Brown tends to go for the kill early.

Not only do I like the slight underdog straight up, but BARBERENA BY POINTS (+245) is a tremendous value, too. Brown has had eight of his past nine fights finish inside the distance, but he did go all three rounds with Carlos Condit in a unanimous-decision loss Jan. 16, 2021, in his fight previous to the one with Lima.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (+130): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE is a pretty solid value at this price despite that Brown hasn’t been terribly interested in going long into the night lately, or at any point of his career. However, he is 41 years old, his second-to-last fight did need the judges, and his opponent here will be very deliberate. Barberena has gone the distance in each of his last three fights, and this one will be no different.

UFC on ESPN 33: Joanne Wood vs. Alexa Grasso odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 33 odds and lines between Joanne Wood vs. Alexa Grasso, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a women’s flyweight bout on the main card, Joanne Wood and Alexa Grasso meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 33 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 33 Wood vs. Grasso odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Wood, formerly known as Joanne Calderwood, might be fighting to stick around in the UFC. She has lost back-to-back fights, including a first-round submission loss to Taila Santos in November. Wood is also just 4-6 across her last 10 UFC fights.

Grasso has posted consecutive unanimous-decision wins over Ji Yeon Kim (Aug. 2020) and Maycee Barber (Feb. 2021) after a majority-decision setback to Carla Esparza Sept. 21, 2019. Her last four fights, and nine of her last 10 professional bouts, have gone the distance.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Wood +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Grasso -270 (bet $270 to win $100)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -350 | No +230)

UFC on ESPN 33 Wood vs. Grasso: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Wood (15-7-0) | Grasso (13-3-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Neither of these fighters has been particularly good on the ground, so don’t worry about that aspect when trying to figure out a winner. Grasso has just one submission result in her pro career, losing to Tatiana Suarez in May 2018. Wood is 1-4 via submission in her career, all at the UFC level.

Instead, focus on GRASSO BY POINTS (-155). Wood’s fights have gone the distance when she’s not been tapped out. Five of her last seven bouts have needed the judges to figure out a winner, and she is 3-2 in those outings.

Grasso has had just one stoppage in her last 10 fights. It would be a shock if she didn’t go the distance.

Over/Under (O/U)

Yes (-350): Fight to go the distance will cost you three and a half times your potential return. There is just no value here.

AVOID, and focus on the method of victory instead.

UFC on ESPN 33: Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 33 odds and lines between Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a heavyweight bout in the main event, Curtis Blaydes and Chris Daukaus meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 33 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 33 Blaydes vs. Daukaus odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Blaydes was knocked out in the main event against Derrick Lewis Feb. 20, 2021, but he bounced back with an impressive unanimous-decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 266 in September to get back on track.

Three of the last five fights for Blaydes, and five of the previous eight, have finished inside the distance. All of the stoppages have been via KO/TKO, with three wins and two losses in those five knockouts.

Win or lose, Daukaus has been involved in knockouts at every step during his UFC career. Each of his last 11 professional bouts has ended via KO/TKO, including all five of his bouts since joining the UFC promotion. He is 4-1 in those five outings, most recently suffering a first-round knockout loss to Lewis in December.

Watch this card with ESPN+ by signing up here.

UFC on ESPN 33 Blaydes vs. Daukaus: Odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Blaydes -475 (bet $475 to win $100) | Daukaus +320 (bet $100 to win $320)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +210 | No -320)

[tipico]

UFC on ESPN 33 Blaydes vs. Daukaus: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Blaydes (15-3-0) | Daukaus (12-4-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Blaydes (-475) is an overwhelming favorite in this main event match, but you can’t risk nearly five times your potential return.

The heavy favorite has a four-inch reach advantage, and he holds a 16-pound advantage, too. While Daukaus has easily been the more frequent puncher in his UFC career, going for 7.71 significant strikes landed per minute, Blaydes is the more well-rounded fighter with a strong ground game when needed.

Daukaus has been involved in plenty of knockouts so BLAYDES BY TKO/KO (-127) for the method of victory is the much better value here.

Over/Under (O/U)

There is very little chance this fight needs the judges to get involved, but No (-320): Fight to go the distance is not a good value with a risk of more than three times your potential return.

I like a three-round block for the better value. Take BLAYDES TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+460), BLAYDES TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+750) and BLAYDES TO WIN IN ROUND 4 (+1100). If he wins in Rounds 2-4, you’ll lose two of the ends but still be well ahead.
