UFC on ESPN 28: Bryan Barberena vs. Jason Witt odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Bryan Barberena and Jason Witt, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a welterweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Bryan Barberena and Jason Witt meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 Barberena vs. Witt odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Barberena stopped a two-fight KO/TKO skid with a unanimous decision win over Anthony Ivy Sept. 12, 2020. He had been sidelined for nearly 15 months in part due to undergoing spinal surgery in Sept. 2019. He’ll be making his 12th walk to the UFC octagon Saturday and is looking for consecutive victories for the first time since Jan. 30 and May 14, 2016.

Witt is eager to get back into the octagon after being knocked out in just 16 seconds against Matthew Semelsberger March 13. That setback came on the heels of a Round 2 submission victory over Cole Williams on Halloween 2020. Since arriving at the UFC level he is 1-2 with three stoppages, including his submission victory and two losses by KO/TKO.

UFC on ESPN 28 Barberena vs. Witt: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Barberena 15-7-0 | Witt 18-7-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Barberena (-270) will cost you over two and a half times your potential return which is too expensive in this main card event.

Instead, play BARBERENA BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+100) at even money on the 5-way line.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Witt has seen all three of his fights at the UFC level end via stoppage.

For Barberena, he has had three fights end via KO/TKO across the last four, with his last fight going the distance.

As such, play NO (-190): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE, with UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-145) a little cheaper and worth a roll of the dice.

UFC on ESPN 28: Ryan Benoit vs. Zarrukh Adashev odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Ryan Benoit and Zarrukh Adashev, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a flyweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Ryan Benoit and Zarrukh Adashev meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 Benoit vs. Adashev odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Benoit, a.k.a. “Baby Face”, checks into the octagon looking to snap a two-bout losing skid. He lost by unanimous decision to Tim Elliott July 15, 2020, and he fell by split-decision Dec. 21, 2019, against Alateng Heili. His last victory was a third-round KO/TKO on Nov. 18, 2017, against Ashkan Mokhtarian. He had a two-year layoff between those fights due to a serious rib fracture injury.

Adashev has lost both his fights since arriving at the UFC level. He suffered a KO/TKO loss in just 32 seconds against Tyson Nam June 13, 2020, and he followed that up with a unanimous decision setback against Su Mudaerji on Jan. 20. His last win came with the Bellator promotion via KO/TKO against Tevin Dyce Oct. 26, 2019.

UFC on ESPN 28: Benoit vs. Adashev: Odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:48 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Benoit -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Adashev +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -175 | Under +145)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -160 | No +135)

UFC on ESPN 28 Benoit vs. Adashev: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Benoit 10-7-0 | Adashev 3-3-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

BENOIT (-140) is a solid play on the 2-way line against the Uzbekistani fighter Adashev. The latter has had a difficult time since signing with the UFC as he searches for his first victory since inking a deal.

In addition, BENOIT ON POINTS (+165) is a safe play, although playing him on the 7-way line for the KO/TKO or DQ (+400) is awfully tempting.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Benoit has gone the distance in his last two fights, and four of his last five bouts, and Adashev went the distance last time out. However, Benoit is a whirling dervish who will be looking for the finish.

As such, play YES (-160): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? for the safe play. And if you’d like a little wiggle room. OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-175) isn’t much more expensive.

UFC on ESPN 28: Niklas Stolze vs. Jared Gooden odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Niklas Stolze and Jared Gooden, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a welterweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Niklas Stolze and Jared Gooden meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 Stolze vs. Gooden odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Stolze is looking to bounce back after a unanimous decision loss July 25, 2020, to Ramazan Emeev in his UFC debut. He has gone the distance in each of his last two pro fights but finished inside the distance in three of the last five with a TKO and two rear-naked choke submission victories.

Gooden is also looking to get back on track after a loss. He has two straight unanimous decision setbacks, against Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Alan Jouban. He’s 0-for-2 at the UFC level, so someone is going to get their arm raised for the first time with the promotion barring a draw.

UFC on ESPN 28: Stolze vs. Gooden: Odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:26 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Stolze -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Gooden +165 (bet $100 to win $165)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -165 | Under +135)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -160 | No +130)

UFC on ESPN 28 Stolze vs. Gooden: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Stolze 12-4-0 | Gooden 17-6-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Stolze is a little on the expensive side here as you need to risk two times your potential return, but I am feeling the German fighter in this one as he has shown he has the ability to win in a multitude of ways.

Playing STOLZE ON POINTS (+130) is a strong play. I considered Stolze on the 5-way line with a chance to triple up but these fighters should be able to take it the distance.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (-160): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is the safe play in this one, with OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-165) not out of line at this price if you would like a little bit of wiggle room in the event of a late Round 3 finish.

UFC on ESPN 28: Gloria de Paula vs. Cheyanne Buys odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Gloria de Paula and Cheyanne Buys, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a women’s strawweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Gloria de Paula and Cheyanne Buys meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 de Paula vs. Buys odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

de Paula enters the octagon with a 3.5-inch reach advantage against the switch-stance fighter. She made her UFC debut last time out, falling to Jinh Yu Frey March 13 by unanimous decision. She usually gets the judges involved, going the distance in four of her last five professional bouts. de Paula has three finishes in her career, all three of which were wins via KO/TKO, with no submission results.

Buys heads into this one looking to bounce back after a unanimous decision loss against Montserrat Conejo at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Holland March 20 in her promotional debut. Her last six professional bouts have gone the distance since a KO/TKO win in her pro debut against Karla Hernandez March 9, 2018.

UFC on ESPN 28: de Paula vs. Buys: Odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:42 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): de Paula +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Buys -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -355 | Under +275)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -300 | No +240)

UFC on ESPN 28 de Paula vs. Buys: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: de Paula 5-3-0 | Buys 5-2-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

There isn’t a lot of difference between the two fighters and therefore it’s a good idea to roll the dice on DE PAULA (+140) on the 2-way line. She’ll be looking to keep Buys at bay with that big reach advantage, and keeping her opposition at a distance will likely be appealing to the judges.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

If you’re down with the underdog you also need to take DE PAULA ON POINTS (+235) for a chance to more than double up. Both of these fighters have a lack of stoppages during their fledgling careers and we should see the judges involved.

Betting Yes (-300): Will the fight go the distance? is a little too steep for my liking. If you’re able to wrap it into a parlay of some sort then it becomes tolerable.

UFC on ESPN 28: Kyung Ho Kang vs. Rani Yahya odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Kyung Ho Kang and Rani Yahya, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a bantamweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Kyung Ho Kang and Rani Yahya meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 Kang vs. Yahya odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Kang carries a couple of advantages into this fight but the one that really sticks out is his reach advantage. The South Korean fighter holds a tremendous six-inch reach advantage, while also leading 2.52 to 1.57 in significant strikes landed per minute. In addition, he has a 59.38-to-33.33 takedown accuracy percentage lead over the Brazilian.

Kang has won each of his last three fights but they have been by a razor-thin margin with two straight split-decision victories. Four of his last seven bouts have ended up going the distance, and four of the last six have been split decisions, which is rather uncanny.

Yahya, the jiu-jitsu specialist, has been tremendous on the mat – and that’s where he’ll be looking to get this fight early. Four of his last six fights have ended with submission victories, including a second-round win March 13 over Ray Rodriguez in his last bout. He has a draw against Enrique Barzola and a unanimous decision loss to Ricky Simon at UFC 234 during that six-fight span.

UFC on ESPN 28: Kang vs. Yahya: Odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:13 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Kang -120 (bet $120 to win $100) | Yahya +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -150 | Under +125)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -120 | No +100)

UFC on ESPN 28 Kang vs. Yahya: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Kang 17-8-0 | Yahya 27-10-1

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

I am a little nervous about Kang and the fact he leaves his fate in the hands of the judges so frequently. I don’t like it, and I definitely don’t like that four of his last six fights were split decisions that could easily have gone another way.

YAHYA (+100) is a great value, and he is tremendous on the canvas. If Kang isn’t careful on defense, and the Brazilian can get this fight on the ground early, Yahya has the advantage.

He’ll need to do that because he can’t go upright against Kang; he won’t be able to get next to him with that six-inch reach disadvantage so he’ll have to go low for takedowns and try to offset the reach.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Kang has gone the distance frequently, but I am siding with Yahya, and therefore I believe he’ll be able to win this one on the ground. Roll with YAHYA BY SUBMISSION (+240) on the 7-way method of victory line.

If you want to toss in the KO/TKO on the 5-way line (+210), it isn’t that much more, but I don’t see Yahya knocking him out.

As such, I’d go UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+125) for a nice little value. This one won’t see the judges get involved, much to Kang’s dismay.

UFC on ESPN 28: Uriah Hall vs. Sean Strickland odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 28 fight between Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout in Saturday’s main event, Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland meet at UFC on ESPN 28 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC on ESPN 28 Hall vs. Strickland odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The prelims start at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Hall stands an inch shorter than his counterpart, but he holds a 3.5-inch reach advantage that he will use to keep his opponent at a distance. While he trails 5.14 to 3.34 in significant strikes landed per minute he does have a 55.18-to-41.96 significant strikes accuracy percentage advantage.

Hall should be well-rested after needing just 17 seconds to knockout veteran Chris Weidman April 24 at UFC 261 – at least that’s how it’s recorded. In reality, Weidman snapped his leg on the first kick he threw, but Hall will take the win.

Hall also had a KO/TKO win in Round 4 against Anderson Silva prior to that and enters on a four-bout win streak. His last loss was at UFC 226 after receiving a second-round KO/TKO defeat against Paulo Costa. Seven of his past eight fights have resulted in KO/TKO, with just a split-decision win September 14, 2019, against Antonio Carlos Junior as the outlier. He doesn’t like letting the judges get involved.

Of his 27 career professional fights, 19 have finished via stoppage, going 14-4 by way of KO/TKO, with one submission win.

Strickland also enters on a four-bout heater with his most recent victory by way of unanimous decision May 1 against Krzysztof Jotko. He had three KO/TKO fights, with two wins in those outings, across his last five bouts prior to facing Jotko. His last loss came May 12, 2018, at UFC 224 against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos.

UFC on ESPN 28: Hall vs. Strickland: Odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:40 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Hall +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | Strickland -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Over/Under: 3.5 rounds (Over -110 | Under -110)

UFC on ESPN 28 Hall vs. Strickland: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Hall 18-9-0 | Strickland 23-3-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

I was tempted to roll the dice on Hall as a live ‘dog, but Strickland is the better play here. The Jamaican fighter Hall hasn’t really fought anybody of note, and when he did meet Weidman he won by a fluke injury. I think Strickland is on more of an upward trajectory.

In addition, I like STRICKLAND BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+155) for a little more added value. This is going to be a war, and very even in the first couple of rounds. However, I think the North Carolina native Strickland starts pulling away in Round 3 and stays ahead however long it goes after that.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

This fight isn’t going to need the judges, so playing NO (-165): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is the best play on the board.

In addition, I like UNDER 4.5 ROUNDS (-145) for a little more added value, although I think we’ll get to at least the third round before Strickland starts to pull away.

In fact, I’d also take OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-140), and play the middle in this main event. That’s my play as I plan to watch this fight nearby at the Mirage in Las Vegas Saturday night.
