UFC on ABC 4 video: Matt Brown floors Court McGee to tie UFC knockout record

Matt Brown joins Derrick Lewis atop the leaderboard for most knockouts in UFC history after finishing Court McGee in the first round.

Age may be a meaningless number for savvy welterweight veteran [autotag]Matt Brown[/autotag], but his UFC knockout total carries historical significance.

At 42, “The Immortal” Brown (24-19 MMA, 17-13 UFC) stepped into the cage at UFC on ABC 4, which took place at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., with the potential of tying the UFC’s record for total career knockouts. At 4:09 of Round 1, Brown did just that by putting Court McGee down and out with a well-timed punch.

In what was a competitive opening round, both veterans were having their moments – that is, until everything ended in a blink.

McGee (21-12 MMA, 10-11 UFC) pawed out a left hand and was in the process of sending a right behind it for a two-punch combination. Unfortunately for “The Crusher,” Brown had a right of his own already on the way with a lot of steam behind it, and it hit the target first. As a result, McGee crashed to the canvas, and the walk-off celebration was on for Brown.

The knockout marked the 13th of Brown’s UFC career, tying heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis for the most in UFC history.

Aside from joining Lewis in the history book, the finish also marked a return to the win column for Brown, who entered the octagon looking to rebound from a split decision loss to Bryan Barberena last March.

Brown’s last 10 victories have come by stoppage, with his last decision win coming against Stephen Thompson at UFC 145 in April 2012. Brown’s last first-round finish came against Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 120 in November 2017.

Video: Bryan Battle KOs Gabe Green in 14 seconds after wild, but brief firefight at UFC on ABC 4

Gabe Green started like a bat out of hell, and Bryan Battle made him pay – in a hurry.

[autotag]Gabe Green[/autotag] started like a bat out of hell, and [autotag]Bryan Battle[/autotag] made him pay – in a hurry.

In front of his home fans in Charlotte, N.C., Battle (9-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) knocked out Green (11-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC) in just 14 seconds. It was the sixth fastest finish in UFC welterweight history with Green out cold.

Their fight was the second bout on the prelims at UFC on ABC 4 at Spectrum Center.

“I was made by Charlotte. I’m never going to lose in Charlotte – never in front of my people, never in front of my friends, never in front of my family. We’re just going to keep going,” Battle said in his post-fight interview.

Green came forward immediately after they touched gloves and threw his first punch five seconds into the fight. Six seconds later, he was unconscious. There was an extra two to three seconds for the referee to stop the fight after Green’s head hit the canvas.

Battle’s knockout came from just a single punch after he traded in a flurry with Green along the fence for a few seconds.

Battle was emotional after the fight and warned future opponents of his knockout power.

“I put these hands on anybody, they might go to sleep,” he said. “He normally doesn’t come out that aggressive, so it caught me a little off guard. But I kept my stance, kept my posture and was just firing, baby. That’s a tough dude – I’m the first person to finish him in the UFC.”

In a normal circumstance, Battle would be a shoe-in for a post-fight bonus award. Under the strictest application of the rules, though, he’s ineligible because he missed weight and came in two pounds heavy. UFC president Dana White has waived that rule in the past, but it’s yet to be seen if he’ll do it for Battle.

UFC on ABC 4 video: Tainara Lisboa taps Jessica-Rose Clark to cap off impressive debut

Tainara Lisboa’s UFC debut was one to remember as she dominated Jessica-Rose Clark before finishing the fight by submission.

[autotag]Tainara Lisboa[/autotag]’s UFC debut was an impressive one.

A new addition to the women’s bantamweight division, Lisboa (6-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) showed a wide range of skills against Jessica-Rose Clark. Whether it was on the feet with sharp striking, or on the mat flexing her BJJ skills, Lisboa proved she can do a little bit of everything en route to her submission of Clark (11-9 MMA, 4-5 UFC) at 4:20 of Round 3 of the opening bout at UFC on ABC 4 at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Lisboa had Clark in trouble at many points throughout the fight. She rocked Clark with punching combinations and forced her opponent to defend a deep armbar for a lengthy period. Even with the fight firmly in her grasp with time running out, Lisboa kept hunting for a finish, and was able to tap Clark with just 40 seconds remaining in the fight.

Check out video of the finish below (via Twitter):

The victory marked four straight for the Brazilian, which includes stoppages of every opponent. Lisboa’s prior appearance was over a year ago, where she submitted Conceicao Oliveira last April.
