Conor McGregor wants most knockouts in UFC history; record holder Matt Brown responds

Matt Brown responds to Conor McGregor’s interest in breaking his record.

[autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] wants what [autotag]Matt Brown[/autotag] and Derrick Lewis are battling for – the record for most knockouts in UFC history.

Both Brown (24-19 MMA, 17-13 UFC) and Lewis are tied with 13 knockouts in the octagon. Brown caught up to Lewis this Saturday with his first-round finish of fellow veteran Court McGee at Saturday’s UFC on ABC 4 at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Not long after Brown’s record-tying win, McGregor took to Twitter on early Sunday morning to express his interest in the accolade, and appeared to be very confident making it possible.

McGregor’s next fight is potentially against former UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler, the opposing coach on the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” although there is no date for the matchup set.

“Matt Brown, at 42 years of age, now holds the joint highest KO’s inside the UFC with 13 KO’s,” McGregor wrote. “Him and “The Beast” Lewis are tied. I hold 8 KO’s inside the UFC currently, at 34 years of age. I’m getting this record.”

To which Brown made a short and simple reply, suggesting the two fight.

“I’ll fight you for it.”

Speaking with reporters at the UFC on ABC 4 post-fight press conference, Brown said he wanted to break the tie and be the sole record holder for the most knockouts in the UFC. However, at 42 years of age, there are some limitations to that.

“I want to (break the record), yeah,” Brown said (via FanSided). “We’ll see. Everyone’s been asking when I’ll get back in there, but I need to go back home and see how the injuries heal up and got some other people getting ready for fights, so I’ll be helping them up.

“But I’ll start thinking about it in the next couple of weeks and see how I feel. At my age and life and everything, it just comes down to injuries. I’ll be there till I’m 50 if I wasn’t injured.”

Check out all the facts and figures from UFC on ABC 4, including some notable feats from Matt Brown and Jailton Almeida.

The UFC retuned to North Carolina on Saturday with UFC on ABC 4 at Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

In the main event, [autotag]Jailton Almeida[/autotag] (19-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) continued his emergence as a heavyweight contender when he flawlessly ran through [autotag]Jairzinho Rozenstruik[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) en route to a first-round submission and staying unbeaten inside the octagon.

Johnny Walker ranks win over Anthony Smith at UFC on ABC 4 as career best, but knows there’s room for improvement

Johnny Walker is happy with his showing against Anthony Smith.

[autotag]Johnny Walker[/autotag] is proud of what he was able to get done in his return to the cage.

The UFC light heavyweight contender picked up a win over former title challenger Anthony Smith in the co-main event of UFC on ABC 4. Walker (21-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) defeated Smith (36-18 MMA, 11-8 UFC) in a unanimous decision to improve his winning streak to three in a row.

And almost 30 fights into his professional MMA career, Walker believes Saturday’s win was the best in his career.

“I think it’s the best, right?,” Walker said at the UFC on ABC 4 post-fight press conference. “I never fought someone in the top five, so this is my best performance until now. I know I can do better. That’s why. I come back to the gym this weekend and keep training and keep improving. The next time, I want to fight better than this time.”

[lawrence-related id=2642874,2642798]

Walker and Smith had a tense build up to their contest in Charlotte. It was not clear what the reason was, but it was seen throughout fight week and in the fight itself.

The Brazilian says he’s got nothing personal against Smith and is thankful to have shared the octagon with him.

“I don’t think there was any tension,” Walker said. “I hate nobody. It’s my job. … I’m very grateful that I fought him. He’s a great fighter, and he’s been in the top 10 and top five for a long time, you know. He gave me a really good experience, and I’m happy I got to fight him and show that I’m ready for the next step.”

Jailton Almeida wants Tai Tuivasa next, sees himself fighting for UFC heavyweight title in 2024

Jailton Almeida expects to be fighting for the UFC heavyweight title in 2024.

[autotag]Jailton Almeida[/autotag] is a man with a plan.

The rising UFC heavyweight contender knows what he wants next and already called his shot shortly after his latest triumph inside the octagon. Almeida (19-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) submitted Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the first round of their main event contest at UFC on ABC 4, which went down on Saturday night at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

And not long after, speaking with reporters at the UFC on ABC post-fight press conference, the Brazilian called for a fight against “Bam Bam.”

“Of course, UFC Abu Dhabi or UFC Brazil around October,” Almeida said. “I want Tai Tuivasa. Either he comes to Brazil and feels the energy down there, or perhaps go to Abu Dhabi, where I heard he actually does his camps. So no worries, we can do that. We’ll make the effort and go to him.”

[lawrence-related id=2642870,2642376,2642891]

The win over Rozenstruik (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC), put Almeida on a five-fight winning streak since joining the UFC in early 2022. With plenty of hype behind him, Almeida sees himself fighting for the UFC heavyweight title in 2024.

“I’m taking this as a ladder full of steps, and I’m very happy to be looking into the top 10 right now and by the end of the year make it to seventh or sixth,” Almeida said. “Then next year maybe go and shoot for the title we all dream of.”

UFC on ABC 4 results: Jailton Almeida smothers, chokes Jairzinho Rozenstruik in first

Jailton Almeida didn’t need much time to win his first UFC main event – and didn’t take any damage in the process.

[autotag]Jailton Almeida[/autotag] didn’t need much time to win the first main event of his UFC career.

In the main event of UFC on ABC 4 at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., Almeida (19-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) met the biggest name of his career thus far in Jairzinho Rozenstruik for a heavyweight clash. While it was Almeida’s first bout scheduled for 25 minutes, he only needed 3:43 to tap Rozenstruik (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) in another dominating performance.

After touching gloves, Almeida immediately shot for a takedown, but Rozenstruik easily stuffed the attempt. However, “Bigi Boy” was not successful in stopping Almeida’s second shot, which came a few seconds later.

Once on the ground, Almeida didn’t rush things while working from half guard, which did not please some of the fans in Charlotte. It was a methodical approach to improving position, but one that eventually paid off. Almeida found his way into full mount, and the finish would soon follow.

Almeida began raining down heavy hammerfists, turning the few boos into loud cheers. Rozenstruik attempted to defend the strikes, but opted to turn to his side, giving Almeida the opportunity to take his back. The rear-naked choke submission was in tight a split second later. Completely flattened out with Almeida on his back, Rozenstruik couldn’t escape and tapped before going out.

According to UFC Stats, Rozenstruik attempted just two significant strikes, and landed neither of them. Coincidentally, Almeida has only been hit with two significant strikes total over his five UFC bouts, while finishing each opponent – an impressive feat.

With the result, Almeida’s current winning streak stretches to 14 overall in his pro career – a run that began in 2018.

After the fight, Almeida called for another “challenge” and mentioned Tai Tuivasa as a potential next opponent.

Rozenstruik entered on the heels of a Performance of the Night performance against Chris Daukaus at UFC 282, where he ended the fight violently in just 23 seconds. Unfortunately for “Bigi Boy,” he was unable to stave off the smothering ground game from Almeida to remain in the win column.
