Joe Pyfer continued the impressive start to his octagon career when he choked out Abdul Razak Alhassan at UFC Fight Night 229.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Joe Pyfer[/autotag] continued the impressive start to his octagon career on Saturday when he submitted [autotag]Abdul Razak Alhassan[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 229.

After speaking extremely confidently about his chances of winning prior to the fight, Pyfer (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) went into the cage and delivered. He went back-and-forth with Alhassan (12-6 MMA, 6-6 UFC) over the first rounds, then in the second frame got the fight to the ground and choked his opponent out cold with an arm-triangle choke at the 2:05 mark of Round 2.

Check out the replay below of Pyfer’s finish in the middleweight bout, which took place at the UFC Apex (via X):

The result marked the first first time Alhassan had ever lost by submission, and Pyfer said the performance showed he’s on an upward trajectory in the promotion.

“I’m not surprised, baby,” Pyfer said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I just knew I was better than this man everyone. I want a new contract. I’ve finished three of my fights and I have one left.”

UFC Fight Night 229 results: Drew Dober lights up Ricky Glenn in first to set lightweight knockout record

The UFC’s lightweight division has a new knockout king after Drew Dober finished Ricky Glenn at UFC Fight Night 229.

[autotag]Drew Dober[/autotag] now stands alone as the knockout king of the lightweight division.

Dober (27-12 MMA, 13-8 UFC) entered his UFC Fight Night 229 main card bout against Ricky Glenn tied with Dustin Poirier for the most knockouts in the history of the division. Dober only needed 2:36 to pick up another stoppage win, punching out Glenn (22-8-2 MMA, 4-5-1 UFC) midway through Round 1.

From the moment the fight began, Dober calmly and steadily stalked Glenn, and picked his spots well. Once he began landing, Glenn didn’t respond well to the shots, and Dober continued to ramp up the pressure until the finishing sequence that prompted referee Chris Tognoni to stop the action.

Check out video of the stoppage below (via X):

Poirer and Dober were tied with eight knockouts, but tonight’s result puts Dober ahead at nine. It also puts Dober one step closer to the overall stoppage total at 10, which is five behind the lightweight leader Jim Miller.

[autotag]Mateus Mendonca[/autotag] was determined to finish [autotag]Nate Maness[/autotag] with a leg submission at UFC Fight Night 229, and it resulted in him getting knocked out.

Maness (15-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) showed off the power behind his ground-and-pound when he countered the repeated grappling attacks of Mendonca (10-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with vicious punches to the face until the referee stepped in at the 4:40 mark of Round 1.

Check out a replay of the finish below (via X):

It was an important win for Maness, who came into the fight with back-to-back losses against Umar Numragomedov and Tagir Ulanbekov. He put that skid behind him, and afterward made a callout for his next fight.

“I’ve been stacked up with some killers here lately and I’ve put too much pressure on myself,” Maness said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “UFC posted this guy yesterday saying he’s a fighter to watch. I’m a fighter to watch, and I’m going to call my shot: CJ Vergara.”
