UFC Fight Night 205 results: Maycee Barber grinds out decision win against Montana De La Rosa

Maycee Barber makes it two in a row, outpointing Montana De La Rosa at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205.

The momentum continues to build for [autotag]Maycee Barber[/autotag].

“The Future” picked up a unanimous decision win over [autotag]Montana De La Rosa[/autotag] on the main card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205 in Las Vegas. Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) outpointed De La Rosa (12-6-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecards.

It was a grueling affair that had both fighters fighting at close quarters for the majority of their 15-minute flyweight bout.

De La Rosa looked to close the distance and force Barber to wrestle. The 23-year-old was content grappling with De La Rosa. And although Barber was controlled for certain portions of the fight, she was able to get a slight edge in the wrestling plus managed to do more damage than De La Rosa in all three rounds.

The first and third were pretty strong rounds by Barber. The closest round of the contest was the second where De La Rosa was able to take Barber’s back and establish a good amount of control.

With this result, Barber is now on a two-fight winning streak, putting behind the pair of consecutive defeats that marked the first losses of her career. Barber was undefeated until she came up short in back-to-back decisions against Roxanne Modafferi in 2020 and then Alexa Grasso in 2021.

Meanwhile, De La Rosa suffered her first defeat since 2020. She was coming off a technical knockout win over Ariane Lipski at UFC Fight Night 189 in June and prior to that, she fought to a draw in a bout against Brazil’s Mayra Bueno Silva.

The UFC featherweight submitted Lando Vannata in the first round of their main-card bout at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205 in Las Vegas. The official stoppage came at the 2:32 mark.

Jourdain (13-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) and Vannata (12-6-2 MMA, 4-6-2 UFC) traded heavy shots early, with both fighters having their moments. Almost two minutes into the round, Vannata shot for a takedown. He was almost immediately caught in a one-armed guillotine choke.

From there, as Vannata tried to squirm out, Jourdain kept re-adjusting until he had control of the guard and was able to work his way to a two-handed guillotine to get the tap.

UFC Fight Night 205 video: Emotional Tyson Pedro blasts Ike Villanueva in first fight since 2018

After three surgeries in three years, UFC Fight Night 205 proved to be a sweet outcome for Tyson Pedro.

[autotag]Tyson Pedro[/autotag] is back in a big way.

The UFC light heavyweight had his first fight since 2018 on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 205 in Las Vegas. Pedro (8-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) put away Ike Villanueva in devastating fashion in the first round of their light heavyweight bout.

Pedro hampered Villanueva with several leg kicks that limited his mobility. With the final leg kick, Pedro dropped Villanueva to the canvas and then followed up with the fight-ending uppercut on a downed Villanueva who was leaning against the cage.

It was a long road back for Pedro after he underwent three knee surgeries that kept him out of action for more than three years.

“It’s surreal at the moment,” Pedro said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I just needed a second to take it all in. There’s a lot going on. I can’t even put it into words how hard it’s been, four long years. This is the proudest that I can say I am of myself in a long time.”

Unlucky Mike Jackson takes spinning kick to groin, eye poke in UFC return after 4 years – but at least he won

Dean Barry gave Mike Jackson quite the welcome back to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 205.

[autotag]Mike Jackson[/autotag] got his first official UFC win, but it wasn’t under ideal circumstances.

Jackson was declared the winner on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 205 after Dean Barry was disqualified following two illegal moves in the first round of their welterweight fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

First came a spinning kick to the groin that had Jackson writhing in pain.

“Oh my God, a spinning kick to the d*ck!” Jackson yelled while on his knees, which could be heard on the ESPN+ live stream. “Ah, f*ck! Ahh, that motherf*cker!”

You can watch the painful moment below (via Twitter):

After several minutes of recovery time, the fight resumed. And then came an egregious eye gouge during a clinch exchange with Barry.

The second illegal move led to the conclusion as Jackson said he couldn’t open his eye and was unable to continue.

“I don’t wanna fight with this eye,” he told the doctor.

Jackson (1-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC)  made his mark in MMA after being signed to the UFC with no professional fights to face Mikey Gall in 2016 and then pro wrestling star CM Punk in 2018.

Jackson lost to Gall in 45 seconds at UFC Fight Night 82. He then returned to the octagon two years later to face CM Punk at UFC 225 where he won by unanimous decision, but later had his victory overturned by the Illinois commission after testing positive for marijuana.
