UFCย Fight Night 199 results: Derrick Lewis flattens Chris Daukaus to break knockout record

The UFC has a new knockout king as Derrick Lewis broke the record with most finishes in promotion history by finishing Chris Daukaus.

It was a vintage [autotag]Derrick Lewis[/autotag] performance in the main event of UFC Fight Night 199.

Looking to rebound from challenging for the interim heavyweight title, Lewis faced Chris Daukaus at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. After promising to deliver a knockout in the lead-up, Lewis (26-8 MMA, 17-6 UFC) was patient early but found the finishing touch on Daukaus (12-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at 3:36 of the first round.

After a touch of gloves, the heavyweight main eventers began feeling each other out. Daukaus circled on the outside as Lewis stalked forward. The first strikes of the fight came from Daukaus, who charged forward with a punching combination, but Lewis was unphased. After being warned for keeping his fingers out, Lewis offered a few strikes in his opponent’s direction, but nothing landed flush.

After attempting a jumping switch kick, Lewis swarmed with a flurry of punches, tagging Daukaus a number of times. Referee Mark Smith stepped closer to monitor the action, but Daukaus was able to grab a hold of Lewis momentarily. A second later, Lewis broke free and continued his flurry of punches until one finally landed clean to drop Daukaus and end the fight.

Lewis now sits alone atop the UFC with the most knockouts in promotional history with 13.

“The Black Beast” gets back in the win column with another highlight-reel finish. Saturday’s win over Daukaus marked his second of 2021, keeping his name among the elite of the heavyweight division. Although he lost his previous outing in an interim title bout to Ciryl Gane, Lewis returned to his winning ways, looking like the fighter who rattled off four straight before UFC 265.

Daukaus walks away with the first loss of his UFC run. Prior to facing Lewis, Daukaus won four straight with the promotion, including wins over Aleksei Oleinik and Shamil Abdurakhimov earlier this year.

UFCย Fight Night 199 results: Belal Muhammad’s smothering wrestling dominates Stephen Thompson

Belal Muhammad’s wrestling was the key to victory in a dominant unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 199.

It was one-way traffic in UFC Fight Night 199‘s co-main event.

[autotag]Belal Muhammad[/autotag] entered the UFC Apex with a chip on his shoulder, looking to make a statement in the welterweight division by defeating former title challenger Stephen Thompson. Muhammad (20-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) exceeded expectations by dominating Thompson (16-6-1 MMA, 11-6-1 UFC), earning multiple 10-8 rounds from the judges.

Thompson’s trademark kicks were on display early, which caused Muhammad to shoot for a takedown to slow things down. “Wonderboy” was able to defend the first attempt, but Muhammad’s second effort was better and brought the fight to the ground where the two would trade punches from one knee for a few moments.

Muhammad brought the fight right back to the canvas moments later, took Thompson’s back, and rained down punches from back mount. The finish was close, but referee Herb Dean did not see enough to stop the fight before the round ended.

The dominant wrestling game from Muhammad continued to shine in the second round, as he put Thompson on his back again. This time, Muhammad began looking for submissions, as he worked on a kimura for quite some time. Thompson was able to work his arm free, but was still on the receiving end of elbows from Muhmmad until the horn sounded.

The game plan from Muhammad remained the same in the final round and quickly put Thompson on his back yet again. However, Thompson was able to get back to his feet and land a few strikes, but it was short-lived as Muhammad secured another takedown in the center of the cage.

The judges turned in scores of 30-25, 30-26, and 30-26 in favor of Muhammad, appropriately telling the story of the one-sided affair.

Muhammad has now won six fights in a row, aside from the no contest with Leon Edwards in March. In 2021 alone, he defeated Dhiego Lima, Demian Maia, and now Thompson all by unanimous decision.

After the fight, Muhammad made a case for running it back with Edwards, in hopes of a definitive result as he continues to climb the ladder towards a title shot.

[autotag]Ricky Simon[/autotag] made a statement at the UFC Apex on Saturday evening.

The bantamweight division has never been hotter and Simon (19-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) hoped to make his way into the top 15 by taking out No. 12 in the official promotional rankings on the main card of UFC Fight Night 199. UFCย Fight Night 199 results: Cub Swanson throttles Darren Elkins, scores first round TKO

Cub Swanson wasted little time getting the job done against Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 199 in Las Vegas.

Not much time was wasted by [autotag]Cub Swanson[/autotag] on Saturday evening.

In a main card featherweight contest between two storied UFC veterans, Swanson (28-12 MMA, 13-8 UFC) took care of business against Darren Elkins (26-10 MMA, 16-9 UFC) in a quick fashion.

From the moment the fight began, Swanson began unleashing pinpoint accurate strikes. In typical “Killer” Cub fashion, he added some flair to his offensive output as well.

A three-punch combination sent Elkins tumbling and reaching for a leg of Swanson but grabbed nothing but air. Elkins returned to his feet to be met by one more left hand and a wheel kick that prompted referee Herb Dean to stop the action at 2:12 of the opening round.

Check out video of the finish below (via Twitter):

Swanson gets back in the win column with a strong win over one of the toughest fighters in the game. After picking up wins in back-to-back fights over Kron Gracie and Daniel Pineda, Swanson dropped one to Giga Chikadze in May. However, on Saturday he was able to bounce back against Elkins to close out the year on a positive note.

Elkins’ win streak is halted at two, after picking up consecutive wins over Eduardo Garagorri and Darrick Minner.

UFC Fight Night 199 video: Gerald Meerschaert taps Dustin Stoltzfus for third submission of 2021

Gerald Meerschaert picked up his third submission win of the year by tapping Dustin Stoltzfus at UFC Fight Night 199.

[autotag]Gerald Meerschaert[/autotag] continues to prove he is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world on the mat.

The final preliminary bout of UFC Fight Night 199 was a grueling fight between Meerschaert (34-14 MMA, 9-6 UFC) and Dustin Stoltzfus(13-4 MMA, 0-3 UFC).

It was a wild contest filled with multiple scrambles on the mat.

Stoltzfus found success on the feet with crisp striking and a controlled few advantageous positions when the fight hit the ground, doing more than enough in the first two rounds to earn the judges’ favor.

However, when it was time to pull out a win in the closing frame, Meerschaert found his way to Stoltzfus’ back and locked in a deep rear-naked choke, forcing his opponent to tap out or go to sleep. Stoltzfus opted for the former at 2:58 of the final round, giving Meerschaert the incredible comeback victory.

Check out video of the finish below (via Twitter):

Meerschaert has been on a submission spree in 2021. Saturday’s victory marked his third finish by submission in as many fights. In April, he locked in a guillotine choke in the first round to finish Bartosz Fabinski, followed by a rear-naked choke finish of Makhmud Muradov in August. On Saturday, it was the rear-naked choke again that secured the victory.

[autotag]Justin Tafa[/autotag] made history for the wrong reasons on the scale, but made up for it with a spectacular knockout at UFC Fight Night 199.

The preliminary heavyweight contest didn’t last long.

After a few striking exchanges, Tafa (5-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) was able to frame Harry Hunsucker (7-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) against the fence and square up a crushing head kick that landed clean. Hunsucker’s head popped back and immediately dropped to the canvas as Tafa walked away from the destruction with an intense look on his face.

Check out video of the finish below (via Twitter):

UFC Fight Night 199 video: Raquel Pennington locks in guillotine choke, taps Macy Chiasson

Raquel Pennington became the first to finish Macy Chiasson with a guillotine choke in the second round at UFC Fight Night 199.

An important matchup between [autotag]Raquel Pennington[/autotag] and Macy Chaisson delivered an incredible fight on the prelims of UFC Fight Night 199.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place at bantamweight, but a fight week change saw the competitors weigh in at the featherweight limit, although Chiasson missed the mark in her short-notice appearance. Despite the issues on the scale, the fight proceeded as planned.

The first round started fast with heated striking exchanges from both fighters. Pennington (13-8 MMA, 10-5 UFC) found a home for hard punches while Chiasson (7-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) was able to quickly return fire with strikes of her own, making for an exciting opening round.

The second round started in a similar fashion. Chiasson landed hard kicks to the body while Pennington answered with punches upstairs. The pace started to slow a little as the round progressed, but the exchanges continued.

After Pennington landed a nice two-punch combination followed by an uppercut and a knee to the body, she clamped down on a guillotine attempt as Chiasson looked to clinch, bringing the fight to the canvas.

Pennington stuck with the choke and became the first to finish Chiasson by forcing a tap at 3:07 in the second round.

With Saturday’s win over Chiasson, Pennington stretches her current win streak to three after her second victory of 2021. After a decision loss to former champion Holly Holm, Pennington picked up unanimous decision wins over Marion Reneau and Pannie Kianzad.

UFC Fight Night 199 video: Jordan Leavitt taps Matt Sayles with a slick inverted triangle

Jordan Leavitt flashed his slick ground game with an inverted triangle submission of Matt Sayles at UFC Fight Night 199.

The final UFC card of the year started off with an impressive finish by [autotag]Jordan Leavitt[/autotag].

The Dana White’s Contender Series veteran picked up his second stoppage win in the UFC by locking in a super slick submission on his opponent Matt Sayles.

Once Leavitt (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) got the fight to the ground, he was able to catch Sayles (8-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) off guard, and locked in an inverted triangle out of nowhere. At first, the submission appeared to not be locked in tight enough to get the finish, but the squeeze from Leavitt forced a tap.

The official stoppage was recorded at 2:05 of the second round.

Leavitt, 26, rebounds from a unanimous decision loss to Claudio Puelles in June in an impressive fashion. Both wins by “The Monkey King” under the UFC banner have come by stoppage. In his UFC debut in December 2020, Leavitt defeated Matt Wilman by slam just 22 seconds into the first round.
