UFC Fight Night 194 video: Mariya Agapova drops, taps out Sabina Mazo in thrilling sequence

Mariya Agapova rebounded from one of the biggest upset losses in UFC history with a statement performance at UFC Fight Night 194.

[autotag]Mariya Agapova[/autotag] rebounded from one of the biggest upset losses in UFC history with a statement performance at UFC Fight Night 194.

After outstriking [autotag]Sabina Mazo[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) for more than two rounds in Saturday’s women’s flyweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Agapova (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) got a big-time finish when she dropped her foe with a slick right hand, then pounced on a rear-naked choke to get the tap – all within the blink of an eye.

It was a perfect way for Agapova to put her previous fight behind her. She was the victim of an all-time upset against Shana Dobson in August 2020, but came back to become the first to finish Mazo inside the distance.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via Twitter):

After the win, Agapova’s emotions poured out.

“Thank you so much for my coach and my friend,” Agapova said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I got in a very bad situation before my fight financially and all my friends helped me. Thank you to all my friends. Sabina is very tough opponent. I had tough fight with her. Very hard.”

She also had a callout ready to go. She targeted Maryna Moroz (10-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who had some harsh words for Agapova after her departure from American Top Team.

“I would like to call out Maryna Moroz because she talked sh*t about me in an interview,” Agapova said.

UFC Fight Night 194 video: Damon Jackson survives horrific cut to decision Charles Rosa

Damon Jackson overcame one of the filthiest cuts in recent memory to defeat Charles Rosa at UFC Fight Night 194.

[autotag]Damon Jackson[/autotag] overcame one of the filthiest cuts in recent memory to defeat [autotag]Charles Rosa[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 194.

After dominating Rosa (14-6 MMA, 5-6 UFC) in the grappling department for the first two rounds of the featherweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Jackson (19-4-1 MMA, 2-2-1 UFC) came out looking to close the door on a win in the third. Instead, though, he ended up fighting for his life.

Rosa came out to start Round 3 with an incredible reverse elbow that opened up a horrific cut around Jackson’s left eye. The fight spilled to the ground with Jackson taking the back, but blood poured out like a faucet, drenching the mat. He couldn’t finish the fight and there was fear it would be stopped, but the cageside doctor let it go on (via Twitter):

Jackson and Rosa then went tooth-and-nail until the final bell, and while Rosa had his best moments at that point, Jackson still kept it up and managed to get his hand raised by unanimous decision and scores of 29-28, 29-27, and 30-27.

“I didn’t really feel it. It didn’t hurt, but when I looked down I saw like, ‘It’s really pouring out,'” Jackson said during his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I felt like I was in control. I was hoping to hold him down a little better and get some more ground and pound. I wasn’t quite sure how the judges would see it.”

The trend of results continued for Rosa with his defeat. He’s now alternated wins and losses over the entirety of his 11-fight UFC tenure.

UFC Fight Night 194 video: Loopy Godinez taps out Silvana Juarez before emotional interview

Loopy Godinez got her first career submission victory at UFC Fight Night 194.

[autotag]Loopy Godinez[/autotag]’s first career submission victory couldn’t have come at a better moment.

Godinez (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), a strawweight prospect from Mexico who  fights out of Canada, forced [autotag]Silvana Gomez Juarez[/autotag] (10-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to tap out in the first round at UFC Fight Night 194 on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

After putting on heavy pressure early in the fight, Godinez got Juarez in a compromising position on the mat. She took the back, but Juarez made critical errors in her defense that allowed Godinez to snatch the arm for the tap at the 4:14 mark of Round 1.

Check out a replay of the finish below (via Twitter):

After the fight reached its conclusion, Godinez could not contain her emotions during the post-fight interview with Paul Felder.

Godinez said one of her primary cornermen is dealing with health issues and wasn’t expected to attend the fight. He ultimately was able to make it, though, and Godinez could not hold back her tears as she thanked him for the support.

Randy Brown upset by Jared Gooden’s weight miss, calls for 50 percent fines moving forward

Randy Brown is not happy about Jared Gooden’s weight miss for their welterweight bout at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 194 in Las Vegas.

[autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] isn’t happy about what went down on Friday morning.

The UFC veteran successfully made weight for his welterweight contest at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 194 in Las Vegas, but his opponent did not. [autotag]Jared Gooden[/autotag] came in at 174 pounds – three pounds over the limit of non-championship welterweight bouts.

The bout will still go on as planned, and Gooden (18-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Brown (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in penalty for the weight miss. But even then Brown is not happy about that.

Dude misses weigh by 4 1/2 lbs lol (laughing out loud),” Brown wrote on Twitter. “Ok I get 20% from purse, but the issue is homie only got 3 fights in the UFC. He’s prob making like 15grand. So I get 20% of that in exchange for a weight advantage smh (shaking my head). Gotta start hitting these dudes for like 50% #unapologeticallyoverweight.”

Brown is looking to build momentum in the UFC, and he’s currently coming off a submission win over fellow veteran Alex Oliveira. Brown is 3-1 in his past four bouts ,with his only defeat coming to top contender Vicente Luque.

Meanwhile, Gooden picked up his first UFC win in his most recent bout, knocking out Niklas Stolze in July. The win put an end to a two-fight losing streak that marked the start of his UFC career.
