Alexander Volkov vs. Ciryl Gane move finalized from UFC 308 to UFC 310

A heavyweight rematch has moved from Abu Dhabi to Las Vegas due to an injury.

A heavyweight rematch is set for the UFC’s final pay-per-view of the year – a new home after an injury necessitated a move.

An injury to [autotag]Alexander Volkov[/autotag] (38-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) forced the promotion to rebook his fight against [autotag]Ciryl Gane[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC)) from UFC 308 next month to UFC 310 in December. The promotion made the move official Friday.

UFC 310 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) takes place Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. UFC 308, the fight’s original home, is set for Oct. 26 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Former Bellator champion Volkov has won four straight fights against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexandr Romanov, Tai Tuivasa and Sergei Pavlovich to put himself firmly back into title contention. That’s a spot he was when he first fought Gane in mid-2021. In that headliner, Gane walked away with a unanimous decision win.

In the aftermath, Volkov rebounded with a win over Marcin Tybura, then was submitted by current interim champion Tom Aspinall before he went on his current 4-0 run. That run includes first-round knockouts of Rozenstruik and Romanov and a second-round submission of Tuivasa.

Gane beat Volkov in their first fight while he was on his ascension up the heavyweight ladder. It moved him to 9-0 and led to an interim heavyweight title fight with Derrick Lewis at UFC 265, which he won by third-round knockout. Gane dropped a decision in January 2022 to Francis Ngannou in a title unification bout, but it didn’t take him long to work his way back.

After a third-round bonus-winning knockout of Tuivasa, Gane got another title shot when he fought Jon Jones for the belt left vacant by Ngannou’s move to the PFL. But Jones submitted him in about two minutes to become champion, and put Gane back in the pack.

A year ago, Gane bounced back with a bonus-winning knockout of Sergei Spivac in front of his home fans in Paris, and that set up the crucial fight with Volkov.

With the addition, the UFC 310 lineup now includes:

  • Dominick Reyes vs. Anthony Smith
  • Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez
  • Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov
  • Clay Guida vs. Chase Hooper
  • Michael Chiesa vs. Max Griffin

[autotag]Michael Chiesa[/autotag] takes on [autotag]Max Griffin[/autotag] Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+). Two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie after an initial report from MMA Fighting.

After three straight setbacks to Vicente Luque, Sean Brady and Kevin Holland, Chiesa (17-7 MMA, 12-7 UFC) returned to submit Tony Ferguson in the first round at UFC on ABC 7 in August.

Griffin (20-10 MMA, 8-8 UFC) has split his past four octagon appearances. After dropping a unanimous decision to Michael Morales, Griffin rebounded with a close win over Jeremiah Wells at UFC Fight Night 236 in February.

Hall of Famer Clay Guida books UFC fight No. 37 vs. Chase Hooper

Chase Hooper was six years old when Hall of Famer Clay Guida made his UFC debut.

[autotag]Chase Hooper[/autotag] was three years old when [autotag]Clay Guida[/autotag] made his professional MMA debut.

Fast forward 21 years later. Hooper (14-3-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and Guida (38-24 MMA, 18-18 UFC) will collide in a three-round lightweight bout Dec. 7 at UFC 310. The event takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Both fighters confirmed the booking on social media after an initial post by X user @McGregorRousey2.

Hooper, 25, rides a three-fight winning streak into the matchup including wins over Nick Fiore, Jordan Leavitt, and Viacheslav Borshchev. Four of his five UFC wins have come inside the distance.

Guida, 42, enters his 37th UFC bout with a .500 promotional record. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2019 for his part in a classic battle against Diego Sanchez at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale.

Despite his longevity in the promotion stretching back to UFC 64 in 2006, Guida has always found a way to bounce back after losing a fight or two. A loss in this bout for Guida would mark the first three-fight skid of his career.

With the addition, the UFC 310 lineup includes:

  • Dominick Reyes vs. Anthony Smith
  • Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez
  • Clay Guida vs. Chase Hooper

A heavyweight rematch that had been set for Abu Dhabi now will take place in a different desert.

According to a report from La Sueur, an [autotag]Alexander Volkov[/autotag] (38-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) injury has pushed his fight with [autotag]Ciryl Gane[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC)) from UFC 308 next month to UFC 310 in December. UFC officials have yet to formalize the change.

UFC 308 is set for Oct. 26 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Now the big men will throw down a second time Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

That’s a spot he was when he first fought Gane in mid-2021. In that headliner, Gane walked away with a unanimous decision win.

Anthony Smith set to face Dominick Reyes at UFC 310 in December

A pair of former UFC light heavyweight title challengers, Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes, will clash at December’s pay-per-view.

The UFC is beginning to schedule fights for its December pay-per-view event, including matching up [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]Dominick Reyes[/autotag].

At UFC 310 on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, former light heavyweight title challengers Smith (37-20 MMA, 13-10 UFC) and Reyes (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) are set to face off.

UFC officials announced the bout Saturday following an initial report from MMA Mania’s Alex Behunin in August.

Smith, currently No. 12 in the promotion’s divisional rankings, will look to rebound from a loss to Roman Dolidze at UFC 303 in June, which continued a recent trend of trading wins and losses. Smith’s last win came in the fight prior at UFC 301, where he scored MMA Junkie’s Submission of the Month for May against Vitor Petrino in just two minutes.

Reyes, currently ranked No. 14, will aim to keep his momentum going following a two-minute victory of his own. In his first fight since November 2022, Reyes returned to action and quickly finished Dustin Jacoby in the first round at UFC on ESPN 57. Not only was the result a successful return after a lengthy layoff, the win snapped a four-fight skid that stretched back to his controversial title challenge loss vs. Jon Jones at UFC 247 in 2020.

The latest UFC 310 lineup now includes:

  • Dominick Reyes vs. Anthony Smith
  • Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez

UFC 310 title eliminator? Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez in the works

For UFC 310, a potential title eliminator between Virna Jandiroba and Tatiana Suarez is in the works.

Likely to be a women’s strawweight title eliminator, [autotag]Virna Jandiroba[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Tatiana Suarez[/autotag] is in the works for the UFC’s final pay-per-view event of 2024.

The top contenders are expected to collide Dec. 7 at UFC 310 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Verbal agreements are in place and bout contracts expected to be signed in the coming days.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Ag. Fight first reported the bout Tuesday.

Jandiroba (21-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) looks to extend her winning streak to five. After consecutive victories over Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, and Loopy Godinez, Jandiroba hit a Submission of the Year candidate armbar against Amanda Lemos in July.

Suarez (10-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) has yet to lose as a professional, despite her career being riddled with injuries and delays. She most recently competed in August 2023 when she submitted former champion Jessica Andrade in Round 2. Other notable UFC wins include former champions Carla Esparza and Alexa Grasso.

With the addition, the UFC 310 lineup includes:

  • Dominick Reyes vs. Anthony Smith
  • Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez

Petr Yan targets spot at UFC 310 in December, wants Deiveson Figueiredo

With just one fight to his name in the past 17 months, former UFC champion Petr Yan is eager to return to the octagon this year.

With just one fight to his name in the past 17 months, former UFC champion [autotag]Petr Yan[/autotag] is eager to return to the octagon before the year is over.

Yan (17-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) snapped his three-fight losing skid in March with a unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong at UFC 299 in March, but he sustained a torn ACL and meniscus that required surgery and prevented a quick return to competition.

Now healthy and prepared to enter a training camp, Yan has called for a place on the final numbered event of 2024, which is UFC 310 on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (via X):

I want to fight on the last ppv card of the year 👊🏼

If Yan, No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie bantamweight rankings, had his choice of opponent, he thinks a showdown with No. 11-ranked Deiveson Figueiredo, a former multitime flyweight champion and 3-0 since moving up to 135 pounds, would be the best fit (via X):

With the majority of the names between Yan and Figueiredo (24-3-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC) either booked, coming off a loss or on a different trajectory, the matchup would seemingly be a well-timed fit for both ends.
