UFC 276 results: Alex Pereira knocks out Sean Strickland with signature strike, calls for title shot

At UFC 276, Alex Pereira solidified himself as the next in line when he knocked Sean Strickland out in the first round.

[autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] has added [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] to his highlight reel.

In a highly anticipated middleweight title eliminator at UFC 276, Pereira (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) knocked out Strickland (25-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) with his signature short left hook and follow-up punches at 2:36 of Round 1. The bout was part of the UFC 276 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight was calm and patient until it wasn’t. The two fighters felt each other out until Pereira landed a left. Strickland stumble to the canvas, popped up, and was met by even more impactful punches. Upon his second fall, the referee stepped in and waved off the bout.

With the win, Pereira solidified a likely ong-awaited third combat sports matchup against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya if he beats Jared Cannonier in the UFC 276 main event. The two competed against each other twice in kickboxing – and Pereira won both fights. The first meeting ended in a decision. The rematch, however, was one for the highlight reel when Pereira knocked Adesanya out cold.

Since Pereira went full-in on MMA in 2020, he’s openly chased Adesanya. UFC 276 was only his third fight with the promotion. His other two victories were a decision over Bruno Silva and a knockout of Andreas Michailidis.

Strickland saw his six-fight winning streak snapped with the loss. His most recent loss prior to UFC 276 came against Elizeu Zaleski in May 2018.

UFC 276 results: Bryan Barberena out-brawls Robbie Lawler for TKO win

Bryan Barberena put away former champion Robbie Lawler.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Bryan Barberena[/autotag] picked up a big win, and he did it in thrilling fashion.

Barberena (17-8 MMA, 8-6 UFC) stopped former welterweight champion [autotag]Robbie Lawler[/autotag] (29-15 MMA, 14-9 UFC) on the UFC 276 main card Saturday. The wild and chaotic fight that ended with a Barberena TKO win at the 4:47 mark of Round 2.

The welterweight bout was part of the UFC 276 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Barberena was forced to rally back to get the win.

In the first round, Lawler didn’t let his foot off the gas and constantly pressed Barberena. Lawler had the lower output, but by far the more significant shots. Barberena constantly threw combinations, but the majority were blocked by Lawler. It was a striking battle for the entirety of the round.

The second frame was similar, but Lawler found plenty of success with his right hand. Halfway through the round, Barberena began to change the momentum of the fight. He pressed Lawler and began connecting with shots that seemed to stun Lawler.

Barberena continued to attack and landed clean shots until Lawler clearly was out of the fight. Lawler never dropped to the canvas, but the referee had little option but to halt the bout.

Barberena has three consecutive wins under his belt. The 33-year-old entered UFC 276 with decision wins over Matt Brown and Dairan Weeks. It’s the first time Barberena has more than two straight victories in his eight years in the UFC.

Lawler fell out of the win column once again. The 40-year-old was coming off a win over fellow veteran Nick Diaz in his most recent outing in September 2021 at UFC 266. But prior to that, Lawler was on a four-fight skid that stretched back to 2017. Lawler is 1-5 in his past six trips to the octagon.

UFC 276 results: Sean O’Malley fight ends after Pedro Munhoz says eye poke left him seeing black

At UFC 276, Sean O’Malley and Pedro Munhoz both came away empty-handed after a foul left one fighter unable to continue.

[autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] and [autotag]Pedro Munhoz[/autotag] both came up empty-handed at UFC 276.

The bantamweight bout ended in a no contest after an inadvertent eye poke from O’Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) rendered Munhoz (19-7 MMA, 9-7 UFC) unable to see out of his right eye. The stoppage came at the 3:09 mark of Round 2. The fight opened up the UFC 276 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Prior to the stoppage, the fight played out as a technical striking match with both men patient. Munhoz landed his signature leg kicks to the lead leg of O’Malley. Meanwhile, O’Malley tried to keep Munhoz at distance as he utilized successful footwork and lengthy punches.

The foul occurred in the back half of Round 2, and instantly Munhoz winced in pain when O’Malley’s open hand raked his face. Referee Jason Herzog called in the cageside physician to take a look. Munhoz told the doctor all he could see was black. Herzog told Munhoz to take a few moments. After a follow-up conference, the doctor told Herzog he saw damage on the back of the eye. That was all Herzog needed to hear to wave off the fight.

Initially, O’Malley showboated with his signature basketball jump-shot celebration. But his mood changed and he visibly looked disappointed as he walked over to Munhoz and shook his hand.

Since the foul was deemed inadvertent, the bout was ruled a no contest.

Video: Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler separated during expletive-filled altercation at UFC 276

Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler exchanged words before UFC 276 security intervened to make sure no punches were thrown.

Neither [autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] nor [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] have their next fights booked, which perhaps explains why the two fighters exchanged words cageside at UFC 276.

In a video tweeted by UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns, promotion and event security separated Poirier and Chandler in between the prelims and main card Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It is unclear how the altercation started, but about a dozen individuals stood in between the two lightweight contenders, including UFC COO Hunter Campbell, who cracked a smile.

Poirier can be heard saying, “I’m going to f*ck you up” and calling Chandler “a fake.”

While the two fighters have both publicly displayed interest in a matchup against one another, the bad blood possibly stemmed from comments made by Chandler in December. Shortly after Poirier was submitted by Charles Oliveira in a title challenge, Chandler tweeted he’d “never quit” in a big fight like Poirier did.
