UFC 274: Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 274 odds and lines between Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight bout on the main card, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson meet Saturday at UFC 274 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Below, we analyze the UFC 274 Chandler vs. Ferguson odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the early prelims starting at 5:30 p.m. ET and the prelims starting at 8 p.m. The main card begins on Pay-Per-View at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Chandler might not have the physical advantages as he stands 3 inches shorter than Ferguson and has a 5-inch reach disadvantage, but he is a ball of fury.

Chandler has consecutive losses to Charles Oliveira, via second-round KO/TKO at UFC 262 in May 2021, and to Justin Gaethje via unanimous-decision at UFC 268 in November. Those two fighters are battling for the title in the main event, so there isn’t a lot of shame in dropping fights to them.

The UD against Gaethje was stunning as his previous 5 fights ended via KO/TKO, including 3 victories. He is 1-2 at the UFC level since coming over from Bellator and gets another top opponent in this one.

The 38-year-old Ferguson is on a 3-fight skid, also falling to Gaethje and Oliveira, while losing to Beneil Dariush last time out at UFC 262 by way of unanimous decision. He has lost via UD in each of his past 2 bouts and nearly went the distance with Gaethje, losing in Round 5 via KO/TKO.

UFC 274 Chandler vs. Ferguson picks and predictions

Records: Chandler (22-7-0) | Ferguson (26-6-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Chandler is the overwhelming favorite here, as Ferguson is on a 3-fight slide and nearing the end of his career.

PASS, though, as you cannot risk four times your potential return. Plus, Ferguson has pride and he has lost to some top-notch fighters during the skid. He has the tools to be able to surprise Chandler if he’s not careful.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-240): Fight to go the distance is also a little too pricey for my liking. Instead, look to Method of Victory.

I think CHANDLER BY KO/TKO (+102) at plus money is a good play, especially since that’s how 5 of his last 6 professional fights have ended, including 3 victories. He burst onto the scene with a KO/TKO in the first round against Dan Hooker at UFC 257. Taking CHANDLER IN ROUND 1 (+235) and CHANDLER IN ROUND 2 (+380) in a two-round block is a good bet, too. You’ll lose one of the ends, but will still be ahead if he wins in Rounds 1-2, especially the latter.

UFC 274: Rose Namajunas vs. Carla Esparza odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 274 odds and lines between Rose Namajunas vs. Carla Esparza, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a women’s strawweight championship bout on the main card, Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza meet Saturday at UFC 274 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Below, we analyze the UFC 274 Namajunas vs. Esparza odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the early prelims starting at 5:30 p.m. ET and the prelims starting at 8 p.m. The main card begins on Pay-Per-View at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Namajunas takes the walk to the octagon with 3 consecutive victories since her loss against Jessica Andrade at UFC 237 cost her the strap. She avenged that loss with a win over Andrade at UFC 251, and she snagged the belt from Zhang Weili with a first-round knockout at UFC 261. She defended the strap with a split-decision win over Zhang at UFC 268, too.

Namajunas heads in with a 4-inch height advantage, and 2-inch reach advantage over Esparza, while also owning a 4.01-to-2.34 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. However, Esparza is much more accurate, with a 65.46 significant strikes accuracy percentage compared to just 45.41 for the champ. Esparza has many more takedowns, too, although Namajunas is better in the submission category.

Esparza has won 5 straight fights, including a KO/TKO of Yan Xiaonan last time out May 22, 2021. Four of her last 5 fights went the distance, with 9 of the past 11 needing the help of the judges to determine a winner.

Namajunas has gone the distance in 3 of her last 5 bouts, with 3 KO/TKOs (2-1) across the previous 6 outings.

UFC 274 Namajunas vs. Esparza odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:42 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Namajunas -240 (bet $240 to win $100) | Esparza +180 (bet $100 to win $180)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -200 | No +140)

[tipico]

UFC 274 Namajunas vs. Esparza picks and predictions

Records: Namajunas (12-4-0) | Esparza (19-6-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

It’s tempting to take the big underdog Esparza for a chance to nearly double up, especially since she has a 5-bout win streak. But, Namajunas is the class of the division and she’ll get it done here. However, risking nearly two and a half times your potential return is risky business, so avoid, and look to the distance and method of victory instead.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (-200): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE is a little more expensive than I care to play normally, but it’s a lock. Esparza generally leaves it up to the judges, with very few stoppages over the years.

For Method of Victory, I like NAMAJUNAS BY POINTS (+155). She has three fights going the distance in the past five, all against top-notch foes. Esparza will want to try and take this fight to the canvas, but Namajunas will keep it upright and try to use her reach advantage. Neither will make inroads trying to end it early via their style.

UFC 274: Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 274 odds and lines between Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight championship bout in the main event, Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje meet Saturday at UFC 274 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Below, we analyze the UFC 274 Oliveira vs. Gaethje odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The fights can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ with the early prelims starting at 5:30 p.m. ET, and the prelims starting at 8 p.m. The main card begins on Pay-Per-View at 10:00 p.m. ET.

The big news Friday is that Oliveira weighed in at 155.5 pounds, a half-pound over the 155-weight class limit. As such, he was stripped of his lightweight championship. It’s the first time in UFC history that a defending champ missed weight ahead of a title bout.

Gaethje, who will be fighting in his home state of Arizona, was the interim title holder in 2020 before falling to Khabib Nurmagomedov. He gets a chance to claim the strap if he can dump Oliveira.

Gaethje won a unanimous-decision fight at UFC 268 after the loss to Khabib, and is now the No. 1 contender in the weight class. The decision was his first in eight fights at the UFC level, with six fights decided by KO/TKO (4-2), and the submission loss to Khabib. Just one of Oliveira’s 17 UFC fights have ended up going the distance, so don’t expect the judges to get involved.

UFC 274 Oliveira vs. Gaethje odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:30 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Oliveira -155 (bet $155 to win $100) | Gaethje +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +280 | No -450)

[tipico]

UFC 274 Oliveira vs. Gaethje picks and predictions

Records: Oliveira (32-8-0) | Gaethje (23-3-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Oliveira (-155) is going to head into this fight with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder after the embarrassment of missing weight and being stripped of the title. But he was going to lose the title anyway. GAETHJE (+120) is going to claim victory in this one.

While Gaethje does have a four-inch reach disadvantage, he has a tremendous 7.50-to-3.44 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. He is going to want to turn this into a brawl.

As long as Gaethje can keep this fight upright, as Oliveira is a beast on the mat, I think Gaethje can bloody and beat Oliveira with fists.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-450): Fight to the distance is way too expensive, even though there is next to no chance it happens. Risking four-and-a-half times your potential return is just not wise.

Instead, take a chance on GAETHJE BY TKO/KO (+180) for an opportunity to nearly double up. In addition, play a three-round block on GAETHJE IN ROUND 3 (+1300), GAETHJE IN ROUND 4 (+2000) and GAETHJE IN ROUND 5 (+2500). Yes, even if he wins in Rounds 3-5, you’ll lose two of the ends, but you’ll be very far ahead regardless.
