Jon Jones reacts to Francis Ngannou’s title win at UFC 260: ‘Show me the money’

Jon Jones is presumed to be the first title challenge for new UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

[autotag]Jon Jones[/autotag] had something to say to the new UFC heavyweight champion.

The former light heavyweight champion was on Twitter on Saturday to react to [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag]’s knockout win over Stipe Miocic in the UFC 260 main event.

Ngannou dethroned Miocic to become the new heavyweight champion with a brutal second-round KO of Miocic.

Shortly after the heavyweight title fight, Jones already was presuming he’s next for Ngannou.

Jones, who’s considered by many to be the greatest fighter in MMA, vacated the 205-pound title to move up to heavyweight. The 33-year-old is on an 18-fight winning streak. Jones’ only defeat is a disqualification loss in 2009.

In his post-fight interview, Ngannou addressed Jones’ comments, saying he’s ready to throw down with Jones.

“In my opinion, Jon Jones is the greatest of all time in MMA,” Ngannou said. “And him moving up is going to be a good thing and it’s a challenge that I will take and put it on my record.

“It would be very good challenge for me very good thing on my resume, but this time he’s going to be the challenger. I am the champ. He’s coming up and looking for me. I’m ready anytime soon. I’ll be here to fight in July or August. I’m ready.”

Below are Jones’ reaction tweets (some already deleted) to Ngannou’s title win:

It was revenge for [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] in the UFC 260 headliner as he finally claimed heavyweight gold from [autotag]Stipe Miocic[/autotag].

After losing the original meeting in January 2018, Ngannou (16-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) got redemption over Miocic (20-4 MMA, 14-4 UFC) with a second-round knockout victory to become the new champion in the title rematch, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

UFC 260 results: Francis Ngannou folds Stipe Miocic unconscious to win heavyweight title

At UFC 260, Francis Ngannou exacted his revenge when he knocked out Stipe Miocic in the pay-per-view main event to become champion.

More than three years after his initial attempt to earn gold, [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] became UFC champion.

At UFC 260 on Saturday, Ngannou (16-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) knocked out Stipe Miocic 52 seconds into the second round.

The heavyweight title bout was the UFC 260 main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

The heavyweights first met at UFC 220 in January 2018. In that fight, Miocic beat Ngannou with a unanimous decision with 50-44 scores on all three judges’ cards. Ngannou struggled to stop takedowns in that fight – but not Saturday.

Early in Round 1, Miocic (20-4 MMA, 14-4 UFC) shot for a takedown. Ngannou didn’t end up on his back, but instead reversed Miocic and landed some big punches. Miocic ate everything Ngannou threw and remained calm, but struggled to muster up much offense outside of a few low calf kicks.

Miocic opened Round 2 with more striking, and Ngannou made him pay. He dropped Miocic in the opening seconds. Miocic recovered and got to his feet, but was met by an Ngannou uppercut.

As Ngannou charged forward, Miocic countered and connected. The blow put Ngannou on his back foot. Miocic recognized it and moved in, but Ngannou returned with a fight-ending punch that folded Miocic with his left foot awkwardly twisted underneath him. As Miocic springboarded with his leg unfolded out from under him, he was met by a diving hammer-fist from Ngannou.

With the win, Ngannou made his second career UFC title challenge his first successful one. In victory, Ngannou extended his winning streak to five after wins over Curtis Blaydes, former champs Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Those first four came in the first round in an average of about 40 seconds each.

With the loss, Miocic dropped the UFC heavyweight title for the second time in his career and had his two-fight winning streak snapped. Miocic has only lost to Ngannou, Cormier, Dos Santos and Stefan Struve during his 18-fight UFC tenure.

UFC 260 results: Vicente Luque submits former champion Tyron Woodley

Vicente Luque submitted former champion Tyron Woodley in the first round of their co-main event bout at UFC 260.

[autotag]Vicente Luque[/autotag] picked up arguably the biggest win of his career Saturday night.

The welterweight contender submitted former UFC welterweight champion [autotag]Tyron Woodley[/autotag] in the first round of their short, but wild fight. Luque (20-7-1 MMA, 13-3 UFC) tapped out Woodley (19-7-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) with a D’Arce choke at the 3:56 mark of the first round.

The welterweight bout was the UFC 260 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

Woodley started aggressive with a big overhand right and pressed Luque against the cage. But Luque reversed the position and pressed the former champion. Shortly after, they broke the clinch and got back in striking range. Then things got wild.

Woodley threw big punches, one of which connected and wobbled Luque. But the Brazilian stayed composed and started to connect, himself. Luque dropped Woodley and looked for the finish. Looking to survive, Woodley shot for a takedown. But Luque locked up a D’Arce choke and finished the fight.

Luque wasted no time and called out Nate Diaz in his post-fight interview. He is on a three-fight winnings streak and 9-1 in his past 10 bouts.

Woodley lost for the fourth straight time. The last time Woodley got his hand raised inside the octagon was in 2018 when he defended his welterweight title against Darren Till. Before the loss to Luque, Woodley lost his title to current champ Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and former interim champ Colby Covington.

[autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] successfully rebounded from his first loss on Saturday when he beat [autotag]Thomas Almeida[/autotag] at UFC 260.

UFC 260 results: Sean O’Malley blasts Thomas Almeida with violent KO sequence

Sean O’Malley brutally knocked out Thomas Almeida, then pretended to shoot a basketball.

[autotag]Sean O’Malley[/autotag] added another violent highlight to his reel Saturday.

At UFC 260, O’Malley (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) put on a striking clinic for two rounds before he blasted [autotag]Thomas Almeida[/autotag] with a violent knockout sequence late in Round 3.

The bantamweight bout was part of the UFC 260 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

O’Malley set the pace early as he stalked Almeida (22-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) around the cage. Late in Round 1, O’Malley landed a violent head kick on Almeida, who somehow ate it without going down. Immediately thereafter, O’Malley connected with a left hand, which floored Almeida. But the walk-off moment O’Malley expected wasn’t there – yet. Almeida survived the round, but wouldn’t make it to the end of the fight.

After another dominant round from O’Malley in Round 2, the fight ended in Round 3. With less than two minutes left in the round, Almeida moved in and ate a short left hand that sent Almeida tumbling. As Almeida rolled over, seemingly disoriented, he was met by a violent knockout blow.

With the victory, O’Malley re-entered the win column after a loss to Marlon Vera this past August at UFC 252. He added Almeida’s name to a resume that also includes Eddie Wineland, Jose Quinonez, Andre Soukhamthath and Terrion Ware.

For Almeida, the loss was his fourth straight. He has not won a fight since he defeated Albert Morales at UFC Fight Night 100 in November 2016. UFC 260 marked the third time Almeida has lost by knockout in his promotional tenure.

UFC 260 results: Prospect Miranda Maverick outpoints Gillian Robertson

Women’s flyweight prospect Miranda Maverick outworked Gillian Robertson for a unanimous decision.

[autotag]Miranda Maverick[/autotag] continues to prove why she’s regarded as a bright prospect in the UFC women’s flyweight division.

The 23-year-old picked up her second UFC win when she outpointed [autotag]Gillian Robertson[/autotag] to a unanimous decision at UFC 260. Maverick (9-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) won with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

The women’s flyweight bout was part of the UFC 260 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

In the first round, Maverick controlled most of the action. She kept the center of the octagon and landed solid combinations on Robertson (9-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) for the majority of the round. Maverick also scored two takedowns late in the round.

But in the second round, there was a clear momentum shift in favor of Robertson. The 25-year-old took down Maverick early and controlled her for more than four minutes. Maverick constantly was defending submissions and getting out of back control, but Robertson was relentless. Maverick landed a good combination at the end of the round and was able to get back on the feet for a few seconds before the bell.

[lawrence-related id=598877,598871]

Maverick started hot in the third and landed a few heavy shots on Robertson. There was a takedown attempt from Robertson, but Maverick managed to defend and got on top for ground-and-pound. Robertson created scrambles and attempted to reverse position, but Maverick seemed to be a step ahead.

With the win, Maverick is now on a four-fight winning streak. She debuted with the UFC this past October and beat Liana Jojua with a doctor’s stoppage. Maverick previously fought in Invicta FC, where she picked up victories over notable names like Pearl Gonzalez and DeAnna Bennett.

Robertson is on a two-fight skid after a loss to Taila Santos in December. Prior to that, Robertson had two consecutive victories.

UFC 260 results: Jamie Mullarkey KOs Khama Worthy in 46 seconds to open pay-per-view

Jamie Mullarkey lived up to his promise not to let the judges decide his fight with Khama Worthy at UFC 260.

[autotag]Jamie Mullarkey[/autotag] promised not to let his third UFC fight be decided by the judges, and he more than lived up to that with a 46-second finish.

Mullarkey (13-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) opened Saturday’s UFC 260 main card on pay-per-view at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas with a quick knockout of [autotag]Khama Worthy[/autotag] (16-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC), putting him in the promotion’s win column for the first time.

The lightweights opened the fight with striking exchanges, and before they could even get warmed up, Mullarkey planted a perfect shot across Worthy’s chin. Worthy face-planted into the canvas.

The win was the first since May 2019 for Australia’s Mullarkey. He gave credit to “The Ultimate Fighter” winner Ross Pearson for the boxing that got the job done, and said he knew when he landed on Worthy, the fight would be over.

“That’s a shout out to Ross Pearson, my man back home. When I hit the hook, it never does feel like it hit him hard enough, but I saw his eyes wobble ever-so-slightly, and I got the finish.”
