UCLA cited for recruiting violations in women’s cross country and track and field

The UCLA Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field team is placed on probation.

UCLA women’s cross country and track and field were cited for recruiting violations. Since then, the Bruins have reached an agreement with the NCAA enforcement staff.

The penalties for the program include one year of probation, a $5K fine, and some restrictions on upcoming recruiting. Also, the team records will be vacated from all the regular season and post-season events those ineligible players were involved.

Much of the dispute over recruiting reportedly happened over several months and included penalties such as impermissible communications, mostly with parents of student-athletes at other schools that were not in the transfer portal.

UCLA fully cooperated with the investigation and worked together with the NCAA enforcement staff to bring the matter to a quick resolution.

The University and Athletic Department have been very quiet about this story, but they did release a statement.

“UCLA Athletics reached an agreement with the NCAA regarding this previous matter. As the case is ongoing, we have no further comment.”

The women’s cross-country season is already underway. In their latest meet, the squad finished second in their opening meet.
