Rickie Fowler files entry for U.S. Open Monday qualifier scheduled for June 6

Rickie Fowler failed to Monday qualify last season.

It’s no secret the last few years have been a struggle for Rickie Fowler, one of the most popular players in the world. His last win came at the 2019 WM Phoenix Open and he’s missed five cuts in 11 starts so far this season.

Despite the rough patch, he continues to be confident in the changes he’s been making to his game. We saw a flash of what Fowler can do at October’s CJ Cup where he finished tied for third behind Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa.

After missing the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines last season, and failing to Monday qualify, Fowler has filed an entry into this year’s Monday qualifier being played June 6. The 36-hole event will be held at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club & Wedgewood Golf and Country Club in Powell, Ohio.

Although he didn’t play in the U.S. Open last season, he did play in four majors: 2020 U.S. Open (T-49), 2020 Masters (T-29), 2021 PGA Championship (T-8), and 2021 Open Championship (T-53).

Fowler teed it up this week at the RBC Heritage, but after rounds of 76-74, he missed the weekend.

Want to play in the 122nd U.S. Open at The Country Club? Here are the USGA qualifying sites for 2022

Local qualifying will be conducted between April 25-May 23, with final qualifying May 23 and June 6.

On Tuesday the United States Golf Association announced the local and final qualifying sites for the 122nd U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, June 16-19.

Online player registration begins on Wednesday, February 23 at champs.usga.org and will be open through Wednesday, April 13. Players must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4, or be a professional.

There will be 109 local qualifying sites across not only the United States, but also Canada, April 25-May 23. For the 43rd consecutive year Illini Country Club, in Springfield, Illinois, will host a U.S. Open local qualifier, while Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, will host one for the 45th time in the last 47 years.

Players who advance from the 18-hole qualifier join a group of locally exempt players for the 36-hole final qualifying May 23 and June 6.
The USGA accepted 9,069 entries for last year’s championship at Torrey Pines.

“The U.S. Open provides thousands of professional and amateur golfers with diverse backgrounds from around the world the opportunity to earn a place in the championship through a two-stage qualifying process that was established more than 60 years ago,” said John Bodenhamer, chief championships officer for the USGA. “Allied Golf Associations in the United States, as well as the Japan Golf Association and Golf Canada, are working with us to provide a pathway to The Country Club in June where we can once again showcase the world’s greatest players.”

Golf’s Longest Day: U.S. Open final qualifying results

Like election-night returns, the results of nine U.S. Open Final Qualifiers across the country are rolling in. Check out who advanced.

From California to Florida and New York to Washington, various sites spread across the country provided one final shot to qualify for the nation’s major championship on Monday.

For the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Golf Association held final qualifying for the 121st U.S. Open, June 17-20 on the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. In total, 54 players from nine different sites punched their ticket to the third men’s major championship of the year.

Below you’ll find recaps from each of the nine final qualifying sites, as well as a list of the players who qualified for the U.S. Open.

Keep an eye on our live updates from the field here.

USGA reveals 11 final qualifying sites for 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines

The USGA already announced its list of 109 local qualifying sites, and now the list of 11 final qualifying sites have also been revealed.

U.S. Open dreams are about to get real when online player registration opens on Feb. 24. The U.S. Golf Association already announced its list of 109 local qualifying sites earlier this month, and now the list of 11 final qualifying sites – which includes two international sites in Asia and Canada – have also been revealed.

The U.S. Open will be played at Torrey Pines Golf Course’s South Course in San Diego, California, on June 17-20, 2021,

Final qualifying is a one-day, 36-hole event. The first of nine U.S.-based final qualifiers kicks off on Monday, May 24, in Texas, while eight are scheduled on Monday, June 7: two in Ohio and one each in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York and Washington. Japan (May 24) and Canada (June 7) will also host final qualifiers.

No qualifying took place for the 2020 U.S. Open because of COVID and the pandemic will have a minor impact on qualifying this year. England will not host a final qualifying site this year because of the virus, but an exemption category will be added in which players can earn entry based on the three-event U.S. Open 2021 European Tour Qualifying Series (Betfred British Masters, Made in HimmerLand presented by FREJA and Porsche European Open). The top 10 aggregate point earners from those events, who were otherwise not exempt, will earn spots in the U.S. Open field

In 2019, the USGA accepted 9,125 entries for the championship at Pebble Beach, the eighth consecutive year that entries topped 9,000. A record 10,127 entries were received for the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, in the Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina.

USGA reacts to coronavirus: Four-balls off; changes to U.S. Open, Women’s Open qualifying

The USGA has taken its first two events off the competition calendar in wake of the coronavirus.

The start of the USGA’s competition calendar is still more than a month away. But as the first scheduled event, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, draws closer, the organization has joined nearly every other major golf association in reacting to the coronavirus threat.

On Tuesday, the USGA announced it would cancel the Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, scheduled for April 25-29 at Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Florida, in addition to the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, scheduled for May 23-27 at Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) Cricket Club.

Neither event will be rescheduled in 2020.

In addition to those events coming off the calendar, the USGA also announced changes to its qualifying structure for the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open. Local (or first stage) qualifying in its current form has been canceled. The USGA has said it will now look to redesign the qualifying process going forward as events unfold.

“We will continue to hold the dates for the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open at Champions Golf Club and the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club,” the USGA said in its announcement.

The USGA acknowledged that it was too early to speculate what might happen regarding the remaining championships on the schedule, but that it is working with the CDC, WHO and other federal, state and local authorities to be prepared.
