Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discusses injuries for three Vols during fall camp.

Tennessee scrimmaged for the second time at Neyland Stadium during fall training camp on Wednesday.

The Vols will kick off its 2023 season on Sept. 2 versus Virginia at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee (noon EDT, ABC).

Following the Vols’ second scrimmage, third-year head coach Josh Heupel provided injury updates for three Tennessee student-athletes.

Heupel mentioned freshman running back DeSean Bishop “is not out for year, but will be out for an extended period of time, probably a couple of months.”

Freshman defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby will be out for the year.

Heupel also discussed senior offensive lineman Cooper Mays ahead of the Vols’ first game.

“We believe we’ll have an opportunity to have him back,” Heupel said. “Everything has gone well since he missed training camp and had the issue that he had. At the same time, and it’s true for every position but in particular the offensive line, you better have contingency plans.”

Auburn offers 4-star DL Tennessee commit

Tyree Weathersby has been committed to Tennessee since July 1 but Auburn is trying to change that.

The Early Signing Period is rapidly approaching and Auburn’s coaching staff is looking to add several talented players. The latest target is [autotag]Tyree Weathersby[/autotag] who the Tigers offered on Thursday.

The four-star defensive lineman is committed to Tennessee and will be a tough flip. The 6-foot-4, 251-pounder has been committed to the Vols since July 1 but Auburn defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Grant[/autotag] and Co. are making an attempt to do so.

Weathersby is ranked as the No. 47 defensive lineman and No. 328 overall player in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Douglasville, Georgia, native is also the No. 30 player from the Peach State.

With several starters moving onto the NFL or out of eligibility and several depth pieces entering the transfer portal, Auburn needs to land several defensive linemen and Weathersby would be a nice addition.
