Alex McPherson injury update

McPherson has missed nearly every game this season due to complications from a gastrointestinal illness. He is listed as “out” again this week, which means that walk-on kicker Ian Vachon will remain the Tigers’ placekicker after connecting on 6-of-6 extra point attempts and going 2-for-2 on field goal opportunities.

Caleb Burton injury update

Auburn Undercover reports that Burton was placed in concussion protocol earlier this month and has yet to return to the practice field. Burton has appeared in three games this season, recording two catches for 49 yards.

Remaining injury update

Waller, Scott, Anthony, and Frazier are battling season-ending injuries and will not return to the field for the 2024 season.

Initial SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report released ahead of Auburn vs. Kentucky

What is the status of several key Tigers ahead of Saturday’s game at Kentucky?

The initial SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report was released Wednesday, ahead of week nine’s action.

Auburn football has four players nursing season-ending injuries, with just one other player listed on the report. Wide receiver [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag] is listed as “doubtful” for Auburn’s game at Kentucky this Saturday according to the first report. Burton has played in three games this season for the Tigers, hauling in two catches for 49 yards. The cause of his injury is unknown at this time.

LB [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag], DBs [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag], and tight end [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag] are ruled out for Saturday’s game.

Another player to keep an eye on this week is kicker [autotag]Alex McPherson[/autotag]. He has been removed from the availability report but has yet to play this season. Head coach Hugh Freeze suggested the possibility of McPherson getting a chance to kick this weekend during his weekly press conference.

“Should we have another opportunity within the 35-yard range, we are going to give Alex (McPherson) that shot,” Freeze said Monday. “He told me he felt like he could do that, so we’re close to thinking on that. We’ll see how the week goes. Again, we are excited about Towns (McGough) and his future and his talent, but we need to make those. Those are critical moments that keep our momentum up and us feeling good and us feeling like we are finding ways to win the game. But he (Alex) did feel like he could have participated if we had that situation again Saturday.”

Kentucky‘s injury woes will carry into this weekend’s game as seven players are ruled out, three players are listed as “questionable,” five are “probable,” and one player is listed as “doubtful.”

The player deemed “doubtful” for Kentucky early on is leading rusher, Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, who has rushed for 419 yards on 92 carries with four touchdowns.

The next SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report will be released on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, unveiling the final report 90 minutes before Auburn’s game at Kentucky, which is scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday.

Auburn’s first SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report post-bye week is released

How healthy is Auburn heading back into SEC play?

Auburn football returns to action this Saturday by traveling to Missouri to battle the No. 16 Tigers at Faurot Field in Columbia. For the most part, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag]’s squad will be healthy heading into the contest.

The conference released the initial SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report for Saturday’s game on Wednesday. Four Tigers have been ruled out of the contest early on: Cornerback [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], tight end [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag], defensive back [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag], and BUCK [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag].

Scott sustained an ACL injury during the offseason while Frazier and Anthony suffered lower-body injuries during the early portion of the season. The newest addition to the report is Waller, who will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury. He appeared in two games this season, most recently in Auburn’s loss to Oklahoma on Sept. 28.

Missouri has been bitten by the injury bug over the last week as linebacker Khalil Jackson and defensive end Joe Moore III have been ruled out for the season due to injuries. Jackson and Moore join quarterback Sam Horn and defensive end Darris Smith in sustaining season-ending injuries at Missouri. Eli Drinkwitz’s camp did receive positive news regarding wide receiver Luther Burden this week as he is listed as “probable” and is expected to play this Saturday. Outside of Burden, running back Nate Noel and linebacker Triston Newson are tabbed “questionable” for Saturday’s game with Auburn.

The SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report will be updated several times between now and kickoff, with the final report released 90 minutes prior to the 11 a.m. CT kickoff between Auburn and Missouri on Saturday.

Early look at Auburn’s Student-Athlete Availability Report ahead of Georgia game

Several notable names have been added to the initial availability report ahead of the next edition of “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.”

The first SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report of week six’s action has been released, and several notable athletes from Auburn’s roster have made the cut early on.

The obvious names of [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag], and [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag], who was diagnosed with long-term injuries, remain on the list as “out” ahead of the Tigers’ road SEC game at No. 4 Georgia on Saturday. However, a trio of important defensive players are listed as “probable” for the game according to Wednesday’s report.

Linebackers [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] and [autotag]Dorian Mausi[/autotag], as well as safety [autotag]Jerrin Thompson[/autotag], are tagged “probable” for the Georgia game while OT [autotag]Izavion Miller[/autotag] is listed as “questionable.”

McLeod and Mausi combined to make seven stops in last week’s loss to Oklahoma, with McLeod logging a sack. McLeod is the team’s second-highest-graded defensive player according to PFF with 84.4 and has eight quarterback hurries with three sacks. Mausi has recorded four pressures through his first five games as an Auburn Tiger.

Thompson has allowed his covered receivers to catch just 56.3% of passes thrown their way this season at the safety position with a pass break-up and an interception. Miller, who has battled a hip issue throughout the year, has logged 149 snaps at right tackle for the Tigers this season. He is the team’s second-highest-graded pass blocker at 78.3, which is the highest grade among offensive linemen.

Four Georgia Bulldogs have been ruled out of this week’s game: RB Roderick Robinson, LB Smael Mondon Jr., WR London Humphries, and OL Tate Ratledge. DL Jordan Hall is listed as “questionable” while DL Mykel White, WR Sacovie White, and OL Jared Wilson are tabbed “probable.”

Auburn faces No. 4 Georgia on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. The game will be broadcast live on ABC.

Auburn cornerback suffers torn ACL, will miss 2024 season

A tough injury has hit the Auburn defensive backfield, a unit that is looking to rebuild.

Auburn football’s defensive backfield will need to be reconstructed this season, and the project took a giant hit Monday as it was announced that a young cornerback will miss the season.

Justin Hokanson of Auburn Live reports that [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], a redshirt freshman from Austell, Georgia, will miss the entirety of the 2024 season after sustaining a torn ACL. Scott signed with Auburn as part of its 2023 signing class, and will still have four seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in 2025.

Scott appeared in four games last season for Auburn, most recently playing in Auburn’s Music City Bowl loss to Maryland. He ended his season with two solo tackles, one against Maryland and Ole Miss. According to Pro Football Focus, Scott participated in nine total snaps in 2023.

After losing [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag] and [autotag]DJ James[/autotag] to the NFL draft, Auburn need new players to step up at the position. [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag] bring the most experience to the room this season, and Alabama transfer Antonio Kite will aim to break into the rotation.

Bears 2024 minicamp Day 3: Braxton Jones, Nate Davis among those not practicing

The Bears wrapped up their mandatory minicamp on Thursday with a handful of players not participating in team activities.

Mandatory minicamp is officially over for the Chicago Bears as they completed their third and final practice of the week. The Bears had a shorter and lighter practice on Thursday before the veterans break before the summer. A handful of players did not take part in team activities on the field, however.

Offensive tackles Braxton Jones and Kiran Amegadjie and wide receivers Tyler Scott and Dante Pettis missed practice for a second day in a row. Guard Nate Davis was also not participating for the second time this week. Others who were out include cornerback Kyler Gordon, defensive end Austin Booker, and wide receiver Collin Johnson. Bear Report’s Zack Pearson indicates Jones and Gordon were not present at all, while the others were not participating.

Though there were quite a few players not available, head coach Matt Eberflus continued to say it was just precautionary. The Bears veterans won’t be back on the field until sometime in mid-July, while the rookies will take part in one more organized team activity (OTA) next week.

LOOK: Caleb Williams building chemistry with Bears receivers

Enjoy this video of Bears rookie Caleb Williams throwing to DJ Moore, Keenan Moore and others.

Following Chicago Bears rookie minicamp last weekend, quarterback Caleb Williams was back on the practice field at Halas Hall. Only this time, he was throwing to his veteran teammates.

The Bears social accounts shared a video of Williams throwing passes to his new teammates: DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Tyler Scott and Velus Jones Jr. with the offseason program underway.

Williams has wasted no time building chemistry with his new teammates. Not only has he been getting work in with fellow rookie Rome Odunze, he’s developing a rapport with veterans. Even before he was officially drafted by Chicago with the first overall pick, Williams had organized an offseason workout with Moore, Allen and Odunze.

Chicago will be back on the practice field for the start of organized team activities, which kick off next week. The practices will be conducted May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29 and May 31.

Former Auburn DL Brenton Williams reveals transfer destination

Williams, who signed with Auburn as part of the 2023 class, has found a new home within the Group of Five.

Last year, Auburn hired former Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze to take over the football program. Now, Auburn is completing the metaphorical trade by sending a former player to Lynchburg.

[autotag]Brenton Williams[/autotag], who signed with Auburn as part of the 2023 recruiting cycle, announced Friday that he will be transferring to Liberty after spending just one season on the Plains. Williams entered the transfer portal once the spring window opened on April 15, becoming the first player to enter following the conclusion of spring practice.

Williams signed with Auburn as a three-star EDGE from nearby Opelika and was the No. 27 recruit from Alabama for the 2023 recruiting cycle. He chose Auburn over Georgia Tech, Penn State, and Michigan State after originally committing to Coastal Carolina.

Since Williams’ transfer portal entry, linebacker Wesley Steiner, cornerback JD Rhym, offensive tackle [autotag]Garner Langlo[/autotag], wide receiver Jay Fair and cornerback Colton Hood have joined this spring. Cornerback [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag] entered the transfer portal but changed plans on Thursday.

Auburn has landed several important pieces since the spring transfer portal window opened such as former Indiana defensive lineman Philip Blidi and former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Auburn loses a pair of cornerbacks to the transfer portal

Colton Hood and Tyler Scott depart after spending one season with the program.

Auburn football’s departing transfer portal class grew Tuesday as two young cornerbacks have elected to take their talents elsewhere.

[autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], a pair of cornerbacks who signed with Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class, announced Tuesday that they will be entering the transfer portal. The duo joins defensive lineman Brenton Williams, wide receiver Jay Fair, linebacker Wesley Steiner, and cornerback JD Rhym as spring transfer portal entries.

Hood, nephew of former Auburn cornerback Roderick Hood, joined Auburn’s 2023 class as a three-star according to 247Sports. The McDonough, Georgia native was the No. 48 cornerback and the No. 45 overall recruit from Georgia.

A fellow Georgian, Scott signed with Auburn as a safety before moving to cornerback this spring. He was the nation’s No. 20 cornerback and the No. 19 prospect from Georgia, signing with Auburn out of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton.

According to Pro Football Focus, Hood and Scott combined to play 53 snaps over five games. Hood saw the most action between the two by appearing in four games with 44 total snaps played.

There are now seven cornerbacks on Auburn’s roster following the departures of Hood and Scott. [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag] headline the position as returners while [autotag]Antonio Kite[/autotag] joins the team as a transfer from Alabama.

Who will wear No. 13 for the Bears this season?

Tyler Scott recently changed his jersey number from 13 to 10. Will Keenan Allen or Caleb Williams be the next to wear it?

With just over two weeks to go until the 2024 NFL Draft, all eyes are on the Chicago Bears as they hold the No. 1 overall pick. But the questions these days are less about who they will select with that pick, but which number will he wear?

It’s all but certain Chicago is gearing up to select USC’s Caleb Williams as the top pick, given the numerous meetings the two sides have had, coupled with the lack of visits from the other quarterback prospects. When he finally becomes a Bear, though, will he wear his college number 13? Or will that go to new Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen?

The Bears acquired Allen last month for a fourth-round pick from the Los Angeles Chargers, where he spent the entirety of his career while wearing No. 13.

Whether it’s Williams or Allen, someone new is getting it because Tyler Scott, who wore No. 13 last year during his rookie season, has changed to No. 10. The question now becomes: will Allen or Williams take the number?

Williams isn’t a member of the Bears yet, but Allen has already expressed a desire to keep his old number. During his opening press conference in March, Allen was asked if he would keep No. 13 with the Bears. “I’m going to try to,” Allen said with a smile. Perhaps he got his wish.

A number change doesn’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things, but it’s been a topic of conversation amongst Bears fans for the last few weeks. It looks like we’re closer to knowing the answer, but maybe hold off on ordering those jerseys.
