Michigan made a drastic amount of changes to its coaching staff after Jim Harbaugh signed his contract extension, and while it’s caused some positive attention amongst recruits, it isn’t without attrition.
While Brian Jean-Mary and Shaun Nua were retained, defensive coordinator Don Brown, cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich and safeties coach Bob Shoop were all casualties this offseason. The Wolverines brought in new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, safeties coach George Helow and cornerbacks coach/co-DC Maurice Linguist, sparking what’s likely to be a significant change to the philosophy on that side of the ball.
For Massachusetts native Tyler Martin, who attended Buckingham Browne and Nichols School with current Michigan offensive lineman Zak Zinter, he needs to reevaluate what he wants given the changes. The maize and blue commit was recruited by Don Brown, thus on Thursday, he’s decommitting from the class.

That brings Michigan’s current number of 2022 pledges back down to four, with DT Alex VanSumeren, TE Marlin Klein, DT Davonte Miles and OT Connor Jones remaining in the class.
Martin was ranked No. 278 overall in the 2022 247Sports Composite. He’s the second 2022 pledge to decommit, with safety Myles Rowser opening up his commitment nine months ago.
