Tyler Hansbrough shows respect to hated rival with podcast answer

UNC basketball star Tyler Hansbrough revealed the team he hated the most in college while showing respect to Duke.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels basketball star Tyler Hansbrough played four years with the program, delivering two Final Fours and a national championship. He’s considered a North Carolina legend and played a lot of basketball for the university.

Through his four years, Hansbrough had several battles against Duke, NC State, and other Atlantic Coast Conference rivals. With Duke being a hated rival of the Tar Heels, it’s pretty common for them to be the most hated team for a lot of former players.

However, for Hansbrough that isn’t the case.

While appearing on the Run Your Race podcast with Theo Pinson, Hansbrough was asked who does he dislike more. And without any hesitation, he pointed to NC State.

“I dislike State more,” Hansbrough said. “Yeah, no question. Well I think you have to respect Duke for a lot of their accomplishments. I feel like sometimes, NC State feels like they are in the same category as us and Duke. It’s not. You have to earn that. They have had some wins lately, but let’s get some more NCAA wins and make them count.”

Pinson actually agreed with Hansrbough, bringing up points that NC State can win some regular season games but can’t win where it counts.

It does make sense for Hansbrough and Pinson to respect Duke. The feeling on the other side is probably mutual and those that have been around the rivalry for a long time has that feeling of mutual respect.

UNC basketball great Tyler Hansbrough joins College Basketball Hall of Fame

Tyler Hansbrough, one of the best basketball players to ever suit up for UNC, was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

The University of North Carolina and basketball go together like peanut butter and jelly.

UNC has six national championships – third-most behind Kentucky (8) and UCLA (11). Outside of last season, the Tar Heels have become a model of success in the ACC, finish first in the conference five times and making the NCAA tournament every season from 2010-2011 to 2020-2021.

Carolina’s produced some pretty talented hoopsters over the years, too, most notably this one guy named Michael Jordan.

The best player in more recent years, besides Armando Bacot, to come through UNC is Tyler Hansbrough. The Missouri native is UNC’s all-time NCAA tourney scoring leader with 325 points, the 2008 National Player of the Year, the ACC’s all-time scoring leader with 2,872 points, the only player in ACC history to earn First Team All-America and All-ACC honors in each of his four seasons.

For his collegiate basketball prowess, Hansbrough was recently inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Hansbrough enjoyed a solid NBA career, finishing it out with the Charlotte Hornets in 2015-2016, but nothing that compared to his time in Chapel Hill. His best NBA campaign was in 2010-2011 with the Indiana Pacers, when he averaged a career-high 11 points, 5.2 rebounds and 21.9 minutes per game.

Hansbrough now lives in Chapel Hill, back where he became a legend who, eventually, had his jersey retired in the rafters of the Dean Dome.

Tyler Hansbrough still believes Hubert Davis is the right guy for UNC

UNC Basketball legend Tyler Hansbrough supports head coach Hubert Davis despite the struggles.

With the North Carolian Tar Heels’ struggles this season, the spotlight has turned to head coach Hubert Davis. The Tar Heels could become the first team to miss the NCAA Tournament after being the AP preseason No. 1 team.

The next three games will be huge for the Tar Heels, beginning on Saturday by hosting Virginia.

There has been some criticism about Davis from the fans, national media and more this season. But one UNC legend is saying pump the breaks on talk of Davis being on the hot seat.

Tyler Hansbrough was on the Field of 68 podcast and was asked if Davis was still the right guy for the UNC program. His answer supported Davis and told fans to just relax a bit:

“Absolutely. I don’t think what’s happened this year is on Hubert at all,” Hansbrough said. “It’s way too early to start questioning that”

Hansbrough does have a point. These players also aren’t Davis’ recruits and we won’t see the impact of that until the 2023 and 2024 classes get on campus in the next two years. The 2024 class right now is the No. 1 class in the cycle so far.

Plus, there’s still time for this team to turn it around. The frustrations are totally reasonable as well, but until this team is eliminated, there’s always a shot.

Let’s hope Davis and his staff can get this thing on the right track and that begins on Saturday.

Tyler Hansbrough says ‘it’s disappointing’ to keep watching the effort of this UNC team

Tyler Hansbrough says ‘it’s disappointing’ to keep watching the effort of this UNC basketball team.

The UNC basketball program fell to No. 15 Miami on Monday night as another great opportunity for a resume building win escaped them, leaving the program firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The Tar Heels (16-10, 8-7) are currently ninth in the ACC and have zero quad one wins to its resume. The preseason No. 1 ranked team and ACC favorites are a far cry from the team that had a double-digit lead in the 2022 National Championship Game.

Former UNC all-time great Tyler Hansbrough joined the Field of 68 ‘After Dark’ podcast to discuss the Tar Heels and their recent play.

“It’s disappointing,” Hansbrough said. “… I have no problem with losing, but the body language and the effort… when you see that lack, it’s very frustrating.”

After winning 10 of its previous 12 games, North Carolina has now lost four of its last five.

UNC has just five games remaining before the ACC Tournament. Three of the next five opponents are NCAA Tournament teams.

It begins Sunday with a road matchup against No. 23 NC State.

Tyler Hansbrough refuted John Wall’s story about their hilariously unpleasant recruiting interaction, but nobody believes him

Sounds exactly like something Tyler Hansbrough would do.

John Wall very clearly had a lot to say on Theo Pinson’s Tidal League podcast, from detailing his time with the Houston Rockets to how he was traded from the Wizards.

But he also answered something so many people have been itching to know for so long. Why didn’t Wall go to North Carolina?

Obviously, he’s a Raleigh native. He still hosts his own holiday tournament in his home state. It’s pretty clear he’s got a lot of love for Carolina and the people of Carolina still love him, too. With that being the case, it was always weird that he chose to go to Kentucky.

But now we know why, folks. And the answer — at least, in part — is because of Tyler Hansbrough. At least, that’s how Wall put it on the Tidal League pod.

“I go on the visit and Ty Lawson and them there. Tyler Hansbrough got his own section. Him and, like, homeboys. I’m a recruit. I walk up and say what’s up. He said ‘I don’t talk to recruits.’ I’m like ‘F*** you I ain’t coming here.’ That messed it up right there…He did that and I was like ‘I got something for him,’.”

That story is WILD. We’ll never know what Wall had for Hansbrough, really, because the UNC forward left for the NBA in 2009 just a year before Wall started at Kentucky. Look at the beef we missed out on, y’all.

Anyway, Hansbrough straight-up denied Wall’s story on Twitter saying it’s “100% false.” He also threw a shot at John Calipari, sarcastically saying “I’m sure the bank of Calipari had nothing to do with him going to Kentucky.”

What’s funny about this is absolutely no one but die-hard UNC fans actually believes Hansbrough here.
