A fast-rising receiver prospect in the 2023 recruiting class returned to Tiger Town last weekend.

After participating in the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer, Ridge View (Columbia, S.C.) wide receiver Adonis McDaniel was back on campus for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over NC State at Death Valley on Saturday night.

“My time down at Clemson was amazing,” McDaniel wrote to The Clemson Insider in a message. “I’ve been to Clemson for camp and things like that, but that was my first ever home game being in Tiger Town. The atmosphere was great, very electric. The fanbase is extraordinary. The coaching was very welcoming and very loving. Just overall a great experience.”

Did anything about Clemson’s game day experience stand out to McDaniel?

“The light show they did before (the game), that was pretty dope, and the Howard’s Rock entrance,” he said.

During his time on campus, McDaniel had a chance to communicate with Tyler Grisham. Clemson’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator has been in constant contact with the talented in-state receiver, who currently holds offers from schools like Gardner-Webb, Newberry and the University of Charleston.

“I was able to talk to him,” McDaniel said of Grisham. “He was one of the first guys to talk to me. What he said was, of course, he was happy to see me, but he said what I’ve been putting on film is really (good) and that I’m very capable of playing for Clemson. He also said just keep balling that, ‘We’re gonna continue to follow you, but the chances of you playing are very high.’ So, he definitely has me on (his) board.”

With that being said, what would it mean for McDaniel to earn an offer from a program like Clemson?

“It would mean a lot for me to get an offer from a school like that,” he said. “Just because Clemson has always been my favorite school for a while now. And to play in the orange, white and purple would be the best thing ever.”

In-state receiver recaps ‘amazing’ gameday visit to Clemson, says there’s not atmosphere like Death Valley

An in-state receiver prospect, garnering interest from several FBS programs, made his first-ever gameday visit as a recruit to Clemson for the Tigers’ 35-12 win over Furman on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Mac McLean wasn’t sure what his first experience at Death Valley as a recruit would be like, but the 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior in the class of 2024 from Greenville (S.C.) High School certainly wasn’t disappointed.

“It’s a whole different perspective from being a fan,” McLean recently told The Clemson Insider. “I got to see everything the football team went through preparing for the game, and after the game, celebrating in the locker room. Just hearing Coach (Dabo) Swinney talk to the team after the game was pretty cool.”

“It was amazing,” he added of his experience. “Probably talking to Coach (Tyler) Grisham (was the highlight of my experience). Right when I got there, he was actually across the street at his office. Within three minutes, he was over there and he came right up to me and talked to me and my dad. It was great.”

Clemson’s wide receivers coach chatted with McLean about his junior season, which is his first significant run time with Greenville’s varsity team.

“I feel like I’ve done pretty good,” he said. “I’m just trying to do my part, going wherever the coaches need me. I can play inside, and outside on both sides and know the routes for all the plays…Wherever they need a body, they can put me.”

Grisham has been communicating with McLean since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“It was amazing,” McLean began when asked about Grisham reaching out on Sept. 1. “I’m gonna be honest, I did not stay up until midnight on Sept. 1, but I woke up the next morning and saw that I got a text from him at 12:20. I was very excited.”

In addition to Clemson, McLean has been in contact with schools like Virginia Tech, Florida, Furman and Citadel. He also attended Clemson’s 51-45 double overtime win over Wake Forest in Winston-Salem this past Saturday.

It made McLean realize just how special his experience at Clemson was.

“I realized there is not a gameday atmosphere like Clemson,” he said.

He’s hoping to get back to Clemson and also make visits to both Virginia Tech and Florida. McLean said that he’ll definitely try to get back for Clemson’s game against Syracuse on Oct. 22 or its matchup against the University of Miami on Nov. 19.

Circling back to the Furman game, McLean was paying a lot of attention to the offensive side of the football, not just because he’s an offensive player himself, but his former teammates Collin Sadler and Josh Sapp are both now at Clemson.

“I was really impressed with their offense,” McLean said. “We got to go in their locker room after the game and Dabo was talking about how D.J. (Uiagalelei) had the highest passing rating and (Will) Shipley had a couple of touchdowns, the receivers and everybody did great.”

McLean admitted that getting to be in the locker room postgame was probably the second best part of his first Clemson gameday experience as a recruit.

Clemson is set to play host to another fast-rising receiver prospect in the class of 2024 this weekend.

King George (Va.) 2024 three-star Mekhai White confirmed his visit plans to The Clemson Insider on Monday night.

White has been in contact with Tyler Grisham and Mike Reed since Sept. 1. According to White, Clemson really likes how he spreads the field and they’re really interested in him as a prospect going forward.

“I’ve been hearing for him for a while now,” White said of Clemson’s wide receivers coach. “I did hear from him on Sept. 1. He was one of the first coaches to hit me up.”

“He’s a real cool dude,” White added. “He really cares about his players and he’s really passionate about the game of football. I know he develops his players on the field, but also on the field.”

White was unable to make it down in June when Clemson originally invited him to a game. White said that Grisham told him to come down for a game and he’ll see what happens.

“It would mean a lot,” White said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “A school like that giving me a scholarship would be awesome. It would be great.”

In addition to Clemson, White mentions schools like Michigan State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State, Georgia and Tennesee as those who have reached out since the start of the month.

The Clemson-N.C. State game will be White’s third gameday visit this year and his first to Clemson. So far this season, he’s made his way to two other ACC schools in North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

White has never been to Clemson before.

“I want to see the atmosphere and the facilities,” he began. “I heard they had great facilities down there and, of course, academics.”

4-star Carolinas WR excited to take in first Clemson gameday visit

Clemson is set to play host to a number of high-profile targets this weekend, but few are more important than Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings 2024 four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor.

Paylor has been prioritized by Tyler Grisham ever since Clemson’s wide receivers coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer back in June. Paylor heard from Grisham as soon as he could directly contact prospects in the class of 2024 like Paylor on Sept. 1.

“It was pretty urgent,” Paylor told The Clemson Insider earlier this month. “He was like literally the first person who texted and called me. He sent me a text about how excited he is to go on this journey that we’re gonna continue to build on.”

“It’s showing me that he’s very interested in me in a player like me,” Paylor continued. “It just goes to show that he’s really engaged and really serious about who he recruits and how he recruits them.”

Grisham texts Paylor just about every day and is constantly checking up on him.

Paylor is set to be at Clemson this weekend and he’ll return to Memorial Stadium at the end of the regular season for the South Carolina game. Following this weekend, he’ll visit Maryland and Tennessee, while also paying N.C. State another visit and make multiple trips to the University of South Carolina.

“That game is going to be big,” Paylor said of this weekend’s game against N.C. State. “I swear, I know it is. I’m really ready to see what kind of season they have as they bounce back from last season. Because last season they didn’t really have a season that Clemson usually has. They put in all this hard work over the summer. (I’m excited) to see what kind of impact it had over the summer and just seeing how the team will react.”

Paylor made sure that he’ll be in attendance with another priority target for Clemson in the 2024 recruiting class in Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley High four-star wide receiver Alex Taylor.

“Me and him planned on going to that game together,” Paylor said. “Alex is my guy. I text him every two days or so to check up on him, see how he’s doing and everything like that. Alex’s my guy. We definitely plan on going to that game together.”

Paylor (5-10, 180) ranks as the nation’s No. 7 athlete and the No. 35 overall prospect in the class of 2024, per 247Sports.

4-star Peach State wideout gets first feel for Clemson

Sacovie White wanted to check out Clemson for himself, to see if Dabo Swinney’s program would be a good fit. That’s why the four-star athlete out of Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) was in attendance for Clemson’s 48-20 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. …

This past weekend marked the fast-rising Peach State wideout’s first time on campus and the Tigers knocked their first impression with White out of the park.

White, who was accompanied by his mother and sister, said that as soon as they got in the car following Saturday’s game, all they could talk about was the visit.

“It was great. I really liked it,” White said of his visit in a phone interview with The Clemson Insider Tuesday night. “Mainly, it was just the atmosphere. The fans really love you there and (Clemson) does a lot. They show you a lot of love. I like that.”

“It was fun. I got to experience a night game before and night games are always, always cool,” he continued, “so, that was a good experience. The coaches really (stood out) and how they try to find out about you so fast.”

White spoke with both Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham, as well as cornerbacks coach Mike Reed.

“They were just talking to me about what position I would be playing up there,” White recalled. “That week, it was really just me getting up there, seeing the facilities, but then they said next time, I would really be with my position group. They just wanted to get me up there so I could see what it’s like, what a game would be like, especially a night game — those are always fun.”

After getting to meet Grisham, White repeated what recruits often say about Clemson’s wide receivers coach once they get to meet him, that Grisham is the same man that he is over the phone.

“It’s just really a bond thing that I’m trying to build with him,” White explained. “I’m a late bloomer and they really hadn’t known about me. So, now it’s just about building that bond, building that chemistry, where we can see what we can do at the next level to where they offer me or whatever it is.”

This weekend, White will be in Athens to watch No. 1 Georgia take on Kent State. He’s also looking to visit Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio State and some other schools in the Southeast, to name a few.

White is looking forward to getting back to Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 1, when the Tigers play host to N.C. State. This time around, White will be accompanied by his entire family.

“We just want to go to a game that we can see them compete in,” he said. “That right there is just gonna show us what type of team they are, what they do, how they move the ball, what the defense does and just see what it would be like if I fit in there or I don’t fit in there. My parents just want me to fit in a place where they feel like it’s gonna be home for me. That’s what I really want, just the team chemistry and the bond, not just on the field, but off the field too. That’s really it.”

Still, White got a good feel for Clemson’s offensive game plan against La. Tech and as a receiver, he appreciated the way the Tigers spread the football and gave their wideouts a chance to make plays.

White said that he watched Clemson true freshman receiver Antonio Williams a little bit and talked with Grisham about how they utilize the Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) product.

“That’s what they compare me to,” he said.

‘Versatile’ Peach State receiver details ‘unbelievable’ visit to Clemson

Clemson played host this past weekend to a junior Peach State wide receiver who’s on the Tigers’ recruiting radar.

Johns Creek (Ga.) High School’s Kyle Vaka, a class of 2024 prospect, made an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Louisiana Tech game on Saturday night.

“The visit to Clemson was unbelievable,” he told The Clemson Insider. “The atmosphere was unbelievable. I knew going in I was excited about the LED lights and the new scoreboard and just seeing it at a night game, and I was not disappointed. The crowd was incredible. The lights, the scoreboard, the entrance – everything was electric and a really incredible and a great experience.”

One part of the experience that Vaka especially enjoyed was standing on the sideline during pregame warmups and seeing Clemson’s receivers run routes prior to the Tigers’ eventual 48-20 victory over the Bulldogs.

“I love watching the warmups on the sideline and seeing especially the wide receiver room and those guys run routes,” he said. “It kind of gives me an idea of how much harder I need to work and where I need to be, where I need to get to. It’s really motivating, and I love watching those guys and learning from them.”

While on campus, Vaka had the chance to spend time with offensive player development coach Tajh Boyd, as well as socialize with receivers coach Tyler Grisham over a meal.

“Coach Grisham, he ate dinner with my dad and I, and we had some great conversations about not only football but what’s important in life – relationships, God, values and just building your life around that,” Vaka said. “So, Coach Grisham’s a really good coach. He’s a really good dude as well, and you can see that through the conversations he has with the recruits, with the players – not even just talking about football but about life and what’s important in life.”

Vaka added that he feels his relationship with Grisham “definitely” grew stronger during Saturday’s visit.

“Got to spend some quality time with him at dinner, and that was really enjoyable,” he said. “I’m going to continue to grow that relationship, and just excited.”

Vaka has traveled to Tiger Town a bunch of times. He made his way to campus for a couple of games last season, went to this year’s spring game in April and participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer for the second year in a row – not to mention a couple of other trips he has made to visit his sister, who actually attends Clemson.

Did Vaka’s latest visit give him a better feel for where he stands with the Tigers at this point in the recruiting process?

“Definitely,” he said. “I still have the same goals in mind that I set out before my junior year. I’ve got to put on a great junior year on tape. I’ve got to perform this year. I’m going to get back up to camp next summer. I’m going to visit again definitely this year and definitely in the spring. So, I’m just going to keep the process going, keep the relationship going, and I’m excited.”

Speaking of Vaka’s junior campaign, he’s said “it’s going great” for him personally so far. Through four games, he has recorded 13 receptions for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

Vaka sees himself as a versatile receiver who can line up anywhere on the field, whether it be in the slot or on the outside.

“I think I run really good routes, and I catch the ball really well,” he said. “So, I feel like you can put me anywhere and I can succeed, do whatever you need me to do – blocking, whatever it is. So, just anywhere – slot, outside – I feel like I’m versatile.”

Prior to Saturday’s Clemson visit, Vaka went to Vanderbilt a week earlier for its game vs. Wake Forest.

4-star athlete ‘loved’ Clemson visit, felt the love from Tigers

A standout athlete from the Volunteer State returned to Tiger Town for the Louisana Tech game this past weekend.

Webb School of Knoxville’s Markeis Barrett — a four-star athlete in the class of 2024 who holds SEC offers from programs like Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Arkansas — was back on campus last Saturday after competing at the Dabo Swinney Camp in June.

“It was pretty good. I loved it,” Barrett told The Clemson Insider in a phone interview Monday night. “This time, I felt like they showed more love towards me since now that they’re recruiting me more. The last time, (Barrett was in attendance for Clemson’s win over Florida State on Oct. 30, 2021) I was a little bit younger. Now that I’m a junior, I feel like they showed more love.”

Not only that, but the atmosphere definitely jumped out at Barrett, who feels like he truly got to experience a Clemson gameday this time around. When he visited for the Florida State game last season, there were still limitations on the overall experience due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“The fans stood out to me and the atmosphere was amazing,” Barrett said. “Running down the hill, being up there at the top, that really stood out to me; like the energy was different when they ran out. That stood out to me. The fans was going crazy, everything was just different.”

Beyond the atmosphere, Barrett appreciated having a chance to speak directly with Tyler Grisham before and after the game.

“What I got to hear from him is where I’m at in recruiting,” Barrett said regarding Clemson’s wide receivers coach’s message to him. “He was like, I’m high on their board, but he’s only offered one slot. So, we’ll see. I gotta do my part. I just gotta go get it. Just try to go get the (offer).”

Grisham reached out to Barrett on Sept. 1 and there’s been a lot of direct contact between the two parties. It’s been nearly three weeks and Barrett admitted that his relationship with Clemson’s receivers coach has gotten way better since assistant coaches like Grisham could directly contact prospects in the class of 2024.

It’s fair to say that Clemson’s interest in Barrett is genuine at this point in time.

“It definitely feels pretty good, man,” he said. “It definitely motivates me to keep getting better and also putting more stuff on film, so I could potentially get that offer. That’s a school that I would want to go to. It means a lot to me that they’re recruiting me.”

Barrett also had a chance to speak with the assistant director of football operations, Jody Evans, who he said is the recruiter for his area. Evans, who was Clemson coach Dabo Swinney’s roommate at the University of Alabama, was Barrett’s first contact at Clemson and helped introduce him to Grisham.

“I got a better relationship with both of them now,” he said.

Barrett hopes to see both Grisham and Evans again when he visits for Clemson’s Nov. 12 matchup against Louisville at Memorial Stadium. That’s currently the plan for Barrett, but he also could foresee going to another night game instead.

As far as other gameday visits go, Barrett said that he thinks he’s gonna pay visits to Kentucky, Tennessee, Mizzou, USC, Vanderbilt, Boston College and Arkansas. Before his Clemson visit this past Saturday, Barrett visited both Georgia and Vanderbilt.

Another thing that Barrett mentioned towards the end of his conversation with The Clemson Insider, is that he got a pair of gloves from Will Shipley when the sophomore running back was running out for Saturday’s game.

“He told me to do something special with them,” Barrett recalled.

There’s no question about it. This Friday night, Barrett will be rocking those all-white gloves.

Barrett (6-1, 175) is considered by 247Sports to be the nation’s No. 42 ranked athlete and No. 4 prospect in the 2024 class from the state of Tennessee.

Clemson following talented New Jersey receiver closely

This past weekend, Clemson played host to a wide receiver target that’s emerged as a priority for Tyler Grisham and staff, ever since he participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp in June.

Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic 2024 WR Emanuel Ross was in attendance for Clemson’s 35-12 win over Furman on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium.

Ross — a 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior in the class of 2024 — had a chance to catch up with The Clemson Insider regarding his latest trip to Clemson and what he’s been hearing from the program’s wide receivers coach ever since the calendar turned to Sept. 1.

“It was good. It was my first time getting out for a game environment because the last time I was there, the campus was kind of empty,” Ross said in a phone interview Thursday. “It was fun getting out there and seeing all the fans and seeing all the students out there.”

Was there any part of Saturday’s experience that stood out to Ross?

“Just getting to go back to the locker room with the team and seeing how they reacted to win was exciting,” he said.

Ross had the chance to spend some time with Grisham after Clemson’s home opener.

“I just got to hear that they’re keeping a close eye on me,” Ross said regarding what he’s heard from Clemson’s wide receivers coach. “Coach Grisham reaches out a lot, even when I’m back in Jersey, we talk. It was just honestly a time for us to hang out and get to know each other more.”

Clemson was one of the first schools to reach out to Ross at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 1. Since then, he estimates that he texts with Grisham at least once a day

“They’re following me closely and I think the one thing they’re waiting for is for me to wrap up my junior season, I think,” he said when asked about a potential scholarship offer. “But, yeah, they’re watching me closely right now.”

“I really liked how the way Clemson has been recruiting me is really personal,” Ross added. “You can tell that they’re very thorough with it. It doesn’t feel like they’re bulk recruiting. It feels like they’re taking time to get to know you as recruits.”

In addition to Clemson, Ross has been in contact with schools like Rutgers, Wake Forest, Boston College, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, to name a few. He currently holds offers from Coastal Carolina, UConn, Duke, UMass, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Temple and West Virginia.

While Ross was invited to attend as many Clemson home games as he’d like this season, including this weekend’s 8 p.m. game against Louisiana Tech, he acknowledged that it’s tough from a transportation standpoint.

After watching Clemson in person this past Saturday, Ross will have the chance to see the Tigers two more times. Ross is set to be in attendance for when Wake Forest plays host to Clemson next Saturday, Sept. 24 and when Boston College plays host to the Tigers come Oct. 8.

“It actually was a coincidence that it fell into my schedule three times,” he said.

Ross’ junior campaign has gotten off to a hot start. His Red Bank Catholic team is off to a 3-0 start and he’s scored in every game this season.

A fast-rising Peach State wide receiver prospect is set to check out Clemson for the first time this weekend.

Since Sept. 1, Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) 2024 three-star WR Sacovie White has been receiving a lot of mail from Clemson. Speaking with The Clemson Insider in a phone interview Thursday night, White revealed that he now talks to Tyler Grisham all the time.

“He’s a great dude,” White said of Clemson’s wide receivers coach.

Grisham’s message has already resonated with the Georgia native.

“He said he’s gonna recruit me hard,” White recalled. “It’s mainly like, he said, ‘If we get you, we’re not gonna get another guy like you.’ That’s the type of team that they are. They just found out about me. I’ve been on their radar, but they just found out about me. They’re just trying to get so much information on me that they can and just build that bond.

“That coach-player bond that you can get that early and get that out of the way, that would be the best thing for us. Just to see what we could do together and if I was to decide to go there, what we could be, and to see if we could get to a national championship.”

While Grisham has broached the subject of a potential offer, White understands that he has to make his way to campus first.

“That’s the rule. They have to see you first to know what you’re really about,” he said. “That right there just lets me know — Clemson offers very little people — so, it’s just that if they do offer now or later, it really doesn’t matter to me. That’s just gonna be one of my teams that I really look forward to having a connection with.”

Once White got the green light from Grisham that he could attend this Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech, he didn’t think twice. He’ll also be in attendance for when Clemson plays host to N.C. State on Saturday, Oct. 1, so he can bring his whole family.

White will be accompanied by his mother and sister for the Tech game

“I’m very excited about that,” he said of Saturday’s game. “It’s just to see a night game. Night games are very, very inspiring — just seeing what the atmosphere feels like.”

What is White hoping to see when he visits Clemson Saturday?

“Just what they bring to the table and the coaching staff and what they can do for me and the love and the brotherhood there,” he said. “Just seeing the school and just being around people that my dad thinks will be great for me. They’re very religious down there and my family’s big on religion. They feel that it’s gonna be a good spot for me, just to check it out and see what it is like there. We’re just gonna go down there and see what it’s like.”

‘Best decision I’ve made in my life’: Williams reflects on recruiting process, picking Clemson

Antonio Williams was something of a late bloomer as a recruit, as the former four-star prospect from Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, S.C.) didn’t receive his first scholarship offer until his junior year.

The highly regarded wide receiver had to wait even longer for the offer from Clemson that he wanted. It wasn’t until Nov. 20 of his senior year in 2021 that the Tigers pulled the trigger on an offer to Williams, and by that time, he had amassed more than two dozen other offers to choose from.

Williams wasn’t sure if Clemson would ever offer, but he’s certainly glad that he eventually got it.

“I didn’t get my first offer until I think my junior year, so I was kind of late and all that,” Williams said Wednesday. “But Clemson was my last offer, so it took a while. I was kind of waiting on it. I didn’t know it was going to happen, but I’m glad they offered me, and probably the best decision I’ve made in my life.”

Williams didn’t jump on the Clemson offer immediately. Instead, he took some time to do his due diligence and think things through. However, it didn’t take very long for the former top-100 national prospect to determine that he definitely wanted to be a Tiger.

Williams ended up committing to Clemson on Dec. 9, 2021, just a few weeks after receiving the offer. The Tigers beat out South Carolina, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida State and Notre Dame, among many others, for his verbal pledge.

“Clemson’s just probably the best program in the country. So, it’s an honor to receive that offer,” he said. “I don’t think, at first, I was like, alright, I’m coming to Clemson. I still had to think about it a little bit. But it didn’t take long.”

Williams explained what his thought process was like when there were a slew of other schools coming after him and Clemson still hadn’t offered, but he was trying to be patient with the Tigers while waiting to see if they would come through with the offer.

“I mean, you can’t wait on a school,” he said. “Like, you have to take into account the schools that have offered you. Because at the end of the day, if the school that you’re waiting on doesn’t offer, then you’re just going to be clueless and not know where to go. So, just being patient.”

Looking back on how it all unfolded, Williams appreciates the transparency with which Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham handled his recruitment.

“Grish, he was really honest with me,” Williams said. “He told me that he had a guy that was offered, and if he didn’t commit, then I would be getting the offer. So, just trusting in him, and he really was honest with me throughout the whole process.”

The presence of Cade Klubnik in Clemson’s 2022 recruiting class factored into Williams’ decision to choose Clemson, knowing that he’d be catching passes in the future from the former-five star prospect ranked as the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in their class.

Asked if Klubnik recruited him pretty hard during the process, Williams said, “Oh, yeah.”

“We’ve got a great relationship,” Williams said. “Obviously, he was the best quarterback coming out of the 2022 class. So, of course that affected my decision. I wanted to have a quarterback that’s going to be able to get you the ball. This year it’s going to be DJ (Uiagalelei). In the long run, though, I know he’s going to be there.”

After hauling in 137 passes for 2,458 yards and 23 touchdowns in his prep career, Williams enrolled at Clemson this summer and went through fall camp before making his collegiate debut in Monday’s season opener vs. Georgia Tech.

Williams made an impact against the Yellow Jackets, gaining 37 yards on a team-high-tying four receptions, and racked up plenty of yards after his catches while showing off his shiftiness, quickness and explosiveness in the open field.

“I just tried to make the best of my opportunities, and just catch the ball and get upfield,” he said.

Williams’ first college action, which came in the 41-10 win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, seemed surreal to him.

“To be real, it was like a video game, to be honest,” he said. “Like running out on that field, I just had to close my eyes and just take it all in. The first time was crazy.”

Now, after visiting Death Valley as a recruit in the past, the true freshman is getting ready to play in his first game there this Saturday when the Tigers host their home opener against Furman at 3:30 p.m.

“I just remember being in the stands. Now, I get to go out on that field and experience the atmosphere, all the great traditions and everything,” he said. “So, I’m just looking forward to it.”
