Bellator 286 results: Aaron Pico appears to dislocate shoulder as Jeremy Kennedy wins by injury TKO

Aaron Pico wanted to continue, but the cageside doctor wouldn’t let him.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – [autotag]Aaron Pico[/autotag] wanted to continue, but the cageside doctor wouldn’t let him.

Pico’s shoulder appeared to dislocate his shoulder during his fight [autotag]Jeremy Kennedy[/autotag] on Saturday night at Bellator 286. And just like that, after five minutes, the fight was over, with Kennedy awarded a first-round doctor-stoppage TKO at Long Beach Arena.

After the bell rang, Pico did what he could to fight on. First, his team immediately began working on his left shoulder, trying to pop it back into place. For a moment, it looked like they succeeded as the referee asked Pico to get into his fighter stance. But then the cageside doctor was called in to examine, and Pico tried to show he had proper motion in his shoulder. After a couple minutes of trying to convince them he could continue, the referee waved it off on the advice of the doctor.

Afterward, Kennedy (18-3 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) wanted to make it clear that he was better than Pico (10-4 MMA, 10-4 BMMA) during their time in the cage.

“No, I hit him with a left hook on his way in, and we got into grappling exchanges,” Kennedy said. “I know his wrestling pedigree. From a lot of those mat returns, they were kind of feeling easier and easier as the round came on. I respect Pico. I knew maybe something is going on. But I was just going for the kill the whole time, hunting that choke. That’s my position. I get your back. When you’re trying to get up on the cage, I’m going to mat return you and maul you.”

It was an unfortunate end to Pico’s Southern California homecoming fight as the result snapped a six-fight winning streak. Kennedy now has won two fights in a row.

Bellator 286 results: Sumiko Inaba pushed by Nadine Mandiau, grinds out unanimous decision win

At Bellator 286, Sumiko Inaba was tested by an opponent she’d previously finished but ultimately got the win.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – It might not have been the performance [autotag]Sumiko Inaba[/autotag] was hoping for, but perhaps it was one she needed.

Facing [autotag]Nadine Mandiau[/autotag] for a second time, Inaba was pushed – and almost finished – but ultimately grinded out a unanimous decision win Saturday night at Bellator 286 from Long Beach Arena. After 15 minutes, the judges scored the fight 29-28 and 30-27 twice for Inaba, but those scores were deceiving given how close the fight truly was.

And that might’ve come as a surprise since Inaba (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) needed just 65 seconds to beat Mandiau (2-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) by TKO as amateurs back in October 2018.

[lawrence-related id=2585422,2585934]

It was clear early in the first round that the rematch could play out differently as both women found success landing combinations in the early going. It wasn’t until a hard right hand by Sumiko allowed her to take the fight to the mat without about 2 minutes left. Inaba tried for a finish, but Mandiau found her way back to the feet. Still, Inaba landed a front kick that knocked Mandiau back to the mat, but she defended with an armbar attempt to close out the round.

Round 2 is when Inaba was caught in the most trouble. After dominating most of the frame, she spent the final minute fending off a deep triangle choke attempt. Mandiau also had control of one wrist and delivered elbows. At one point, the referee appeared ready to step in but didn’t. Ultimately, Inaba found a way to squeeze her head out and escape just before the bell rang.

By the third round, Inaba had greater success landing combinations to start. Mandiau tried for a takedown that Inaba ultimately fought off and ended up taking her back. Inaba couldn’t capitalize completely on the position, but when they stood back up she kept finding success with her punches.

The victory marked the first decision of Inaba’s five-fight professional career. She’d won her previous four Bellator matchups with three knockouts and one submission.

Up-to-date Bellator 286 results include:

  • Khalid Murtazaliev def. Khadzhimurat Bestaev via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:02
  • Sumiko Inaba def. Nadine Mandiau via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 20-37)
  • Weber Almeida def. Ryan Lilley via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Lance Gibson Jr. def. Dominic Clark via submission (triangle choke) – Round 1, 1:49
  • Cee Jay Hamilton def. Richard Palencia via TKO (injury) – Round 2, 0:12

Who is the Miami Dolphins backup quarterback with Tua Tagovailoa out?

Teddy Bridgewater was inserted into the starting lineup in place of Tagovailoa after an apparent head injury.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left the second quarter of a monumental AFC East showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals due to a possible head injury. Fortunately for Miami, the Dolphins have one of the league’s top backups ready to take his place.

Teddy Bridgewater signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract to serve as Tagovailoa’s understudy back in March. The former starter for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos was a 2015 Pro Bowler who was forced to rebuild his career after a catastrophic knee injury cost him all of 2016 and nearly forced him into retirement.

Bridgewater was a member of our top tier of backup quarterbacks when we separated all 32 candidates into groups back in July. He’s a perfectly average passer who may not engineer many fourth quarter comebacks, but who also does enough with the offense to put his team in position to win. He’s 33-30 as a starter in his career.

He’ll likely have to hold down the fort for the rest of the Dolphins’ Week 4 tilt against the reigning AFC champion Bengals. Tagovailoa looked extremely shaken up after hitting his head on the turf in the first half of Thursday night’s game and had to be stretchered off the field.

Bridgewater played three snaps in Week 3’s game after Tagovailoa left briefly with what appeared to be a head injury but later explained away as a back injury. He failed to complete either of his passes in that brief relief appearance.

Gotham Knights looks spectacular in this PC features trailer

WB Games Montréal is implementing PC-specific features like ultrawide support and AI-enhanced upscaling.

There’s less than a month left until Gotham Knights releases, and the PC version looks particularly fantastic.

On Tuesday, WB Games Montréal released a new trailer for Gotham Knights going over PC-specific features. There’s support for ultrawide and multi-monitor setups, along with options for staggeringly high framerates. Tech enthusiasts will be happy to hear Intel XeSS-powered AI-enhanced is upscaling and ray traced reflections are front-and-center too. It’s a safe bet that this won’t be another middling PC port — hopefully, anyways!

Check out the Gotham Knights PC features for yourself below. Slight spoilers are within, as it opens with Bruce Wayne’s narration letting listers know that he’s gone off to bat-heaven in the sky.

There’s less plot information than in past trailers, but that’s probably for the best. Gotham Knights is coming out on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The initial release date was Oct. 25, 2022, but Warner Bros. moved things up by a few days.

Co-op is an integral part of Gotham Knights. Despite what the four playable character promotional materials imply, only two players can bust-criminal heads at any time. It’s a bummer, but there’s probably plenty of fun to be had in duos.

New Ninja Gaiden would need to ‘exceed’ fan expectations, says dev

Team Ninja’s Fumihiko Yasuda is open to outsourcing the franchise, but only if there’s a great pitch.

It’s been more than a decade since the last Ninja Gaiden came out, and it’ll probably be a while longer before we see another. Team Ninja isn’t opposed to another installment, but company president Fumihiko Yasuda believes it would require a fresh perspective.

During an interview with VGC, Yasuda spoke about the possibility of reviving Ninja Gaiden and whether it was an internal effort at Team Ninja or another studio entirely.

“[If] we were to theoretically work with another company on a new Ninja Gaiden title, we would need to make sure that it would be a title that the fans would really enjoy and exceed their expectations,” Yasuda said. “It’s not just a matter of, ‘hey, let’s just go do this’ – all the pieces would need to fit, and it would need to be the right team… either a younger team internally or another company that would really need to fit the Ninja Gaiden pedigree.”

Currently, Team Ninja is busy making Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Ronin. So it’s understandable that another Ninja Gaiden could only happen if there were more hands to help.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge was the last installment, and it came out in November 2012. Since then, Team Ninja put out Nioh and Nioh 2 – action RPGs are more of the studio’s thing now.

Rick Sanchez blasts through the competition in latest MultiVersus trailer

The latest playable character in MultiVersus is everyone’s favorite bloated scientist.

One of this year’s break-out gaming hits is unquestionably MultiVersus – the wild brawler where Bugs Bunny can suplex Batman. Now, after many weeks of teasing, Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty fame is finally getting in on the action.

On Tuesday, Rick Sanchez was released as a playable character in MultiVersus. Finally, the character’s grandson Morty won’t be going at this all alone. Rick seemingly excels at ranged battles like other Mage types, bringing loads of wacky scientific inventions into the fray. Rockets, lasers, portal guns — Rick has got it all.

Check out the Rick Sanchez gameplay trailer for MultiVersus below. There’s a “wubba lubba dub dub” joke somewhere in here, but I don’t watch the show, so I can’t help you in that regard.

The roster for Multiversus is still growing in the coming months too. As of right now, we know Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins will join the roster later on, though there’s no firm release date for either character yet. Many fans speculate that both will arrive before years’ end, though.

Anyone new to Multiversus should read our character tier list and upcoming roster additions breakdown. The game recently passed 20 million players across all platforms, so it’s likely here to stay.

New Overwatch 2 players have to unlock the old heroes

Legacy cast members like Tracer and Soldier 76 might not be available from the get-go.

When Overwatch 2 launches next week, it’ll mark an all-new era for Blizzard’s popular FPS. Unfortunately for newbies, older heroes will take some grinding to unlock.

On Tuesday, Blizzard shared a blog post that went into detail about Overwatch 2’s First Time User Experience (FTUE), an initiative that’ll ease new players into the hero shooter. New accounts, specifically those that didn’t play the original game, will initially have limited access to modes and heroes.

FTUE’s first phase will gradually open up casual game modes and in-game chat, though new players must win 50 Quick Play matches before Competitive is accessible. Then it’ll take 100 matches to unlock the original cast of Overwatch heroes. It’s all a little head-scratch-worthy, especially since there’s no clarification as to which heroes will be available at launch, but Blizzard claims this system will cut down on smurf accounts.

“While this process helps new players join the fun, it’s also an effective way to discourage disruptive behavior and cheating,” Blizzard said. “FTUE is an investment to complete because it takes time to unlock game features— Competitive, specifically, cannot be accessed without winning matches. Disruptive players are unable to immediately affect the larger community, with things like voice chat and match chat unlocking later in FTUE.”

Remember that none of this applies to accounts that played Overwatch, though most new heroes are only accessible via battle pass unlocks

Overwatch 2 releases Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’ll be free-to-play, and there’s plenty of content coming in the first few months.

Overwatch 2 boss is open to Fortnite-like crossovers

Blizzard’s Jon Spector thought the Naruto event in Fortnite was ‘awesome’

We’re only one week away from Overwatch 2‘s launch – a day many thought would never come. Plenty is changing in the sequel, and Blizzard is open to crossovers with other franchises.

During an interview with Game Informer, Overwatch VP Jon Spector spoke about how the development team is exploring the idea of cross-media events.

“We’ve seen some really fun examples out there of games working with other brands or other games,” Spector said. “I’m a big anime nerd myself. I think it’s super cool when I see Naruto appear in Fortnite. I don’t even play Fortnite, but that’s awesome. And as we look at the Overwatch 2 space, those are things that we’re interested in exploring. If and when we do that, one of our key values is to do it in a way that feels like a great fit for the Overwatch franchise.”

Fortnite is pretty infamous at this point for crossing over with every brand in the known universe. From Dragon Ball Z to Indiana Jones – virtually every franchise you can think of has appeared in Epic’s battle royale. So it’s no surprise that Blizzard might look to replicate that success.

“So we’ve been more focused on those collaborations as the stuff we might be interested in doing. And less on the ads-in-our-game type stuff,” Spector continues.

Whether this comes to fruition is anybody’s guess. If we keep the anime theme going, I’m hoping for a collaboration with Fullmetal Alchemist just so Edward Elric can blitz Roadhog.

Overwatch 2 enters early access Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Hurricane Ian could impact Madden 23’s content rollout

EA Tiburon might delay certain updates due to Hurricane Ian rapidly approaching the studio’s location.

The weekly Ultimate Team content release schedule for Madden 23 might see delays due to Hurricane Ian.

On Monday, Electronic Arts (EA) revealed the Madden 23 Ultimate Team content rollout dates for updates to features like Team of the Week, Gridiron Guardians, AKA, Team Diamonds, and Legends. Each is supposed to launch Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, through Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, but those dates are not set in stone.

“Content is subject to change or experience delays due to Hurricane Ian,” EA said on Twitter

EA goes on to mention that MaddenNFLDirect will announce any changes or delays to the schedule. As of right now, the company’s plans haven’t changed.

[mm-video type=video id=01gb53kv5hnvnhhmhy3x playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01gb53kv5hnvnhhmhy3x/01gb53kv5hnvnhhmhy3x-2eef3a04906a1a86373983752ccaf4d4.jpg]

It’s important to note that EA Tiburon, the studio behind Madden 23, is located in Orlando, Florida. Hurricane Ian is reported to make landfall up and down the Gulf Coast soon, and many residents are preparing for hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall, and potential flooding. Meaning EA Tiburon’s employees are likely bracing for the worst. Again, the development team will update fans if the upcoming updates receive delays.

Madden 23 came out over a month ago to a somewhat lukewarm reception. It captures John Madden’s legacy, even if certain features (or lack thereof) leave much to be desired.
