One Notre Dame player named to ESPN’s true freshman All-American team

A very bright future for this freshman

If you were to guess which Notre Dame freshman would get a lot of praise prior to the season, the most common name you would have heard every say is offensive tackle Blake Fisher. The former 5-star came into the program with a ton of hype and rightfully so.

Unfortunately Fisher suffered an injury in the season opener against Florida State and has yet to return to the field. His torn meniscus has an estimated 8-week recovery, but it might be in his best interest that he sit out the remainder of the season, take a redshirt and prepare for the 2022 campaign.

Fisher’s injury opened up a spot on the offensive line and after Brian Kelly rotating tackles to find the right combination up front, they’ve recently settle in on another true freshman, Joe Alt. The former tight end was viewed as a bit of a project, but you wouldn’t say that now after ESPN has named (insider) Alt to their mid-season true freshman All-American team.

Alt was selected by Tom VanHaaren and it’s more about what’s in store for the future said the ESPN analyst. “Alt is part of a transformed Notre Dame offensive line that had it best performance against Virginia Tech. Putting him on this list is more of a prediction for what is ahead, rather than the cumulative of what he has already done.”

Either way it’s impressive for Alt to be named to the list and the future is sure bright on the offensive line with Fisher to bookend the tackles for the next few years.
