Steelers injury updates: Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren

The Steelers’ Week 3 win came at a cost, with running back duo Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris injured as a result.

The Pittsburgh Steelers looked fantastic in their Week 3 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers; however, every rose has its thorn.  The thorn in question is a myriad of injuries that the Steelers have sustained in less than one week’s time, and it continues to grow, adding both Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris to the list of health concerns.

Pittsburgh Steelers star rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu suffered a regular season-ending injury during practice leading up to Week 3.

In the Week 3 game itself, Alex Highsmith re-aggravated a groin injury he sustained in training camp.

Warren injured his knee, and as if the Steelers’ injury concerns couldn’t get any worse, Najee Harris was seen with his arm in a sling.

If Warren or Harris cannot go in Week 4, several roster moves will be made to alleviate some of the damage.  However, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has a running back on the roster he can lean on and has grown familiar with throughout his time in Atlanta: the ever-dynamic Cordarrelle Patterson.

Steelers’ rookie Troy Fautanu to have surgery, could return in playoffs

Troy Fautanu is out for the regular season after having surgery to fix a dislocated kneecap, but can actually return in the postseason.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will need to continue to have a ‘next man up’ mentality, regarding Troy Fauntanu’s knee injury, if they want to stay competitive in AFC number one seed race.  Broderick Jones filled in nicely for Fautanu, and it now looks like he will have to do so the entirety of the regular season.  Fautanu suffered a dislocated kneecap at Steelers practice last Friday, and he was initially reported as OUT indefinitely.

Pittsburgh had recently made a move to alleviate some of this pain by signing offensive tackle Calvin Anderson.  However, it has now been reported by Ian Rapoport that Fautanu could return for the Steelers, but only in the postseason.

Similar to Alex Highsmith’s groin injury, the Steelers will need to place safety, health, and longevity at the forefront of their concerns for Fautanu.  Broderick Jones will look to hold down the fort at the right tackle position, helping his team reach the playoffs, in which Fautanu’s redemption story will be waiting.

Steelers signing offensive tackle Calvin Anderson

The Steelers addressed offensive line concerns by signing Calvin Anderson following Troy Fautanu’s injury.

After reports of Troy Fautanu’s knee injury came out, Steelers fans wondered what potential signing Pittsburgh would make to alleviate some of the damage to the offensive line depth.  While Broderick Jones bounced back in a big way in Week 3 from his benching in Week 2, depth on the offensive line is now a concern.  However, it has been confirmed that 28-year old offensive lineman Calvin Anderson was brought in for a workout, and subsequently signed with the Steelers on Monday.

The workout was likely to identify if Anderson was in good health, as the offensive tackle has struggled with injury concerns and serious health issues his 2023 season as a Patriot.

While it’s safe to say that the Steelers’ offensive line room will benefit greatly, it appears that Calvin Anderson is also excited to put his helmet and pads on for the black and gold.  Steelers nation will welcome the 4-year player with open arms, as the beginning of the 2024 season is shaping up to be a fantastic start.
