QUIZ: How well do you know Michigan State football history?

The Michigan State Spartans boast a proud football history.

The Spartans program has won more than 700 games since it began play in 1896. MSU has won nine Big Ten Championships and claims six national titles. More than 300 Spartans have been selected in the NFL draft over the years, including 39 in the first round.

Three Spartans alums — Herb Adderley, Morten Andersen and Joe DeLamielleure — are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ten Spartans players (Johnny Pingel, Don Coleman, George Webster, Bubba Smith, Brad Van Pelt, Gene Washington, Percy Snow, Clinton Jones, Kirk Gibson and Lorenzo White) and three coaches (Biggie Munn, Charlie Bachman and Duffy Daugherty) are members of the College Football Hall of Fame.

PHOTO QUIZ: Do you remember these Nets of yesteryear?

Nets Wire presents a throwback trivia quiz featuring player photos from the 1990s and 2000s New Jersey Nets.

Is past mere prologue?

Perhaps that could be said of the New Jersey Nets, who toiled west of the Hudson for 35 seasons before setting up shop in Brooklyn in 2012.

But those Nets of yesteryear and the history they recorded in the Garden State shouldn’t be forgotten — even if they did almost change their name to the Swamp Dragons back in the day.

So let’s celebrate the teams guided by coaches Bill Fitch, Chuck Daly, Butch Beard, John Calipari, Don Casey and Byron Scott from the 1990s and 2000s.

With all that in mind, Nets Wire presents a throwback trivia quiz. See if you can identify the players pictured below.

Celtics Wire evening trivia – April 17: Boston’s revival in the 1980s

The Boston Celtics re-established themselves as a dynasty in the 1980s — but how much do you know about this era today?

One day closer (we hope) to returning to actual, live NBA basketball, The Celtics Wire continues with its evening trivia series, this time shifting our focus to the next major era in Boston’s history.

That era would be the 1980s, which brought us Larry Bird, the original Big Three of him, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale, and three more banners.

While nothing holds a candle to the juggernaut teams of the Celtics in the 1960s, this Boston dynasty was still among the greatest in league history, with the franchise facing off against their longtime rival Los Angeles Lakers multiple times for the NBA Championship.

So without further ado, let’s dig into the questions now that we’re getting closer to games much of our readership was at least alive to witness.

Celtics Wire evening trivia – April 16: Boston’s up-and-down 1970s

The 1970s were a success by almost any measure save that of the Boston Celtics, who “only” won two banners a decade after winning nine.

As we lurch back towards normalcy in the midst of NBA history we’d prefer to be behind us already in the form of the coronavirus pandemic, the Celtics Wire has been assembling some evening Boston Celtics trivia to keep us busy.

Tonight we turn to a comparatively forgotten era of Boston’s storied past, the 1970s.

While two banners in the same decade would be seen as a success by almost any franchise, for the Celtics — fresh off a decade that saw them hang nine — it was something of a roller coaster.

After a rough start to the decade, the team added two more championships to its resumé only to see a slow slide ino back-to-back losing seasons, a phenomenon unknown to Boston fans for more than a generation.

The team would finish the decade warming up for its next title, but with that dynastic mystique a but tarnished. What do you know about this less-popular era of Celtics history?

Take the quiz and find out.

Celtics Wire evening trivia – April 15: the start of Boston’s dynasty

There may be no Boston Celtics basketball in quarantine — but there are no rules against playing trivia.

As we continue to wait for the return of the 2019-20 NBA season and the Boston Celtics with it, the Celtics Wire continues its evening trivia series.

The concept is a simple one — three questions for you to test your knowledge of the winningest team in NBA history each night, with each evening having its own era as a unifying theme.

Last time, we began at the start of the franchise in the late 1940s and 1950s, from Boston’s start as a founding member of the Basketball Association of America through the earliest years of a dynasty that would extend well into the 1960s.

Tonight, we pick up from there, at the start of the 1960s and the the first of several eras of Celtics dominance. So let’s see what you know about the golden age of Boston basketball as the banners started to pile up — take the quiz below.
