Latest mock draft has Sixers selecting Tristan de Silva with No. 16 pick

The latest mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Colorado swingman Tristan de Silva at No. 16 overall.

The Philadelphia 76ers have the No. 16 pick in the 2024 NBA draft when Round 1 begins on June 26 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn. There is a high chance President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey trades that pick, but if he doesn’t, he’ll have options.

The Sixers need a wing. They need somebody who can slide next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey and give the Sixers serious help from the perimeter. In a mock draft put together by The Ringer, they get just that with  Colorado swingman Tristan de Silva:

Effortless spot-up 3-point shooter who’s made nearly 40 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s in college, per Synergy.

Coordinated at-rim finisher with a knack for opportunistic cuts and sealing off defenders under the rim, then using either hand to hit hook shots.

Capable of making every pass. He can run the break or a pick-and-roll and make creative left-handed wraparound passes to rollers. He makes entry passes look easy. Colorado stuck him in the middle of zones to pick apart defenses.

Competitive defender with the quickness to switch screens and the awareness to make timely rotations off the ball.

In his senior season in Boulder, de Silva shot 39.5% from deep and averaged 16 points with 5.1 rebounds. The Sixers could use a player with his skill set for their bench unit to continue solidifying their roster and better contend with teams in the Eastern Conference.

Sixers select Colorado wing player Tristan de Silva in latest mock draft

The Philadelphia 76ers select Colorado wing player Tristan de Silva in the latest NBA mock draft.

The Philadelphia 76ers hold the 16th pick in the 2024 NBA draft, and while there is a strong chance President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey will trade the pick, now is the time to look at some potential options at No. 16.

Morey stated the Sixers need help on the wing. That is very clear after a tough first-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks. Philadelphia is armed with substantial cap space, so one has to assume it will explore the free-agent market as well as possible trades. However, there are likely some useful options at 16.

A mock draft performed by CBS Sports has the Sixers taking Colorado wing player Tristan de Silva at No. 16:

For a Sixers franchise in win-now mode, adding a 23 year-old like da Silva who can guard his position and reliably make 3-pointers should be preferable to adding a teenager who needs time to develop. The 6-9 forward should be a plug-and-play addition for basically anybody on Day 1.

de Silva had a solid college career. He averaged 11.7 points and 3.8 rebounds across four collegiate seasons in Colorado. In his senior season, he averaged 16 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 39.5% from deep. He is able to move off the ball, find open spots on the floor, and as mentioned above, he is a solid defender. If the Sixers keep their pick, he would make a great deal of sense.

2024 NBA mock draft has Sixers selecting Tristan de Silva at No. 16

A 2024 NBA mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Colorado senior Tristan de Silva.

At the moment, the Philadelphia 76ers have two games left in the 2023-24 season and they have a lot of work to do before preparing for the playoffs. There is a lot to figure out and they have a great chance of making a deep run into the postseason when considering the return of Joel Embiid.

However, the Sixers have a draft pick in the 2024 NBA draft and one has to wonder what they will do with that pick. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey could move the pick for a win-now player to prioritize his team’s championship window at the moment.

A mock draft put together by Bleacher Report has the Sixers selecting Colorado senior Tristan de Silva:

A strong three-game NCAA tournament (18.0 PPG, 60.0 percent FG) helped Tristan da Silva continue to sell his scoring versatility and IQ for passing and defense. The lack of explosiveness and physicality brings down his perceived ceiling, but he’s too big, skilled and efficient for it to matter outside the lottery. Regardless of how much his athletic limitations hold him back, teams can bank on da Silva’s shooting, passing and overall discipline.

In his senior season in Boulder, de Silva shot 39.5% from deep and averaged 16.0 points with 5.1 rebounds. The Sixers could use a player with his skill set for their bench unit to continue to solidify their roster and better contend with teams in the Eastern Conference.
