The full 2024 schedule for the Texas A&M Softball team has been released

The Aggie softball team now knows the date and who they will be playing in 2024.

Year two under Trisha Ford is approaching, and the full schedule has been released.

Coach Ford, similar to Head women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor, hit the transfer portal with a purpose and brought in some familiar faces to go with her already talented team. There will be no shortage of competition, especially in the infield, where a lot of speed and athleticism have been added.

Not only is the Aggie roster stacked with talented new faces, but Coach Ford has added veteran coach Eric Leyba and talented player developer Bobby Buchanan. From the players to the staff, the team has a healthy mix of experience and youth that makes this squad that will surprise the softball world this season.

One of the highlights of the non-conference schedule is the Judi Garman Classic, which takes place from February 29 – March 3 in Southern California and is hosted by Cal State Fullerton.

As we prepare for an amazing season, you can check out some highlights from fall ball.

Aggie softball adds talented coach Bobby Buchanan as Director of Player Development

Trisha Ford keeps adding top coaching talent to her staff with the hire of talented player developer Bobby Buchanan

It was announced a few days ago that Trisha Ford added Bobby Buchanan to the Aggie Softball staff. This is one of my favorite assistant coaching hires across Texas A&M athletics in recent years. Coach Buchanan has an excellent eye for talent and is a forward thinker in growing a solid mental game for athletes.

Before joining the Aggie staff Coach Buchanan worked his way up from a volunteer assistant at Texas State University to Head Softball coach at Louisiana College. He also spent some time as a professional coach for the ASBA league.

“Bobby Buchanan is the real thing,” said Michael Chiaradio, CEO and Chairman of ASBA. “His wealth of experience brings credibility and excitement to our league. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the ASBA family.”

Most recently, he’s worked with multiple softball players via affordable and data-driven consulting through his company, High & Inside.

This is a tremendous hire for Coach Ford’s staff, and I have no doubt it will play dividends almost immediately. Let’s welcome Coach Bobby Buchanan to the Aggie family with a Howdy and Gig’em.

Texas A&M baseball adds another pitcher from the transfer portal

The Aggies get their second pitching commitment from the transfer portal this month with Tanner Jones committing to the program.

A week after getting two transfer commitments the Aggies add another from the portal as former Jacksonville State pitcher Tanner Jones announced via social media that he was headed to Central Texas to join Coach Schloss and company. The right-handed pitcher will bring a 7-3 record from last season and over 100 career strikeouts to the rotation, hopefully providing some stability.

The baseball team had a very roller coaster ride of a season with the team never really clicking and hitting on all cylinders. One aspect of that was finding consistency across the pitching lineup. There was a point in the season when the Aggie starting pitching didn’t log a win for multiple weeks. A&M is hoping Jones can become a mainstay in the rotation allowing Coach Schlossnagle to replace his TBD with an actual name.

Tanner jones 2023 snapshot:

  • ERA – 4.67
  • WHIP – 1.34
  • Oppo Batting Avg. – .256
  • Strikeouts – 84

Texas A&M set to name Trisha Ford new softball coach

Texas A&M nabs Arizona State’s Trisha Ford to lead softball program.

According to a report by rounding third softball the Aggies have found their replacement for Jo Evans as their head softball coach. Trisha Ford, who has spent the last 6 years as the head coach of the Lady Sun Devils of Arizona State University has agreed to join the Aggies in the same role.

In her 6 years at ASU, Ford’s teams won 212 games, and made 5 post-season appearances (the Covid shortened 2020 season the only exception), including one Women’s College World Series birth in 2018, and a PAC-12 championship and Super Regionals appearance in 2022.

The Aggies will look to Ford to replace Evans who spent 26 seasons at the helm of the Aggies softball program, and hope to catch magic for a second time on a diamond, after nabbing Jim Schlossnagle to replace longtime head baseball coach Rob Childress after the 2021 season.
