Texas A&M softball moves up in the rankings after red hot start to the 2024 season

After remaining undefeated through the first two weeks on the season the Aggie softball team moves into the top 20

Head softball coach Trisha Ford has Texas A&M undefeated to start the season and knocked off two Super Regional teams along the way to a 9-0 record. After outscoring opponents 63-17 to start the season while being unbeaten, movement in the rankings was almost guaranteed. The question was how far up they would jump and in which polls.

All major softball polls have moved the Aggies into the Top 20 following two opening season tournament sweeps.

Texas A&M is one of five SEC teams that’s undefeated through two weeks and has a Top 25 win under their belt by beating No. 23 Oregon twice. The Aggies get a break before another busy weekend hosting the Texas A&M Invitational February 22-25.

Another undefeated weekend moves the Texas A&M softball team to 9-0 to start the season

Head coach Trisha Ford has the Aggies off to a hot start, going 5-0 on the weekend capped off by beating No. 14 Oregon twice.

Texas A&M (9-0) will travel back from San Diego undefeated, beating No. 14 Oregon twice over the weekend. There’s not a much better start you can ask for and they were able to win in a multitude of ways. head coach Trisha Ford mentioned before the season that she was excited about this team and how much deeper they are as a squad compared to last year.

The Campbell/Cartier Classic was no walk in the park either, starting against the No. 14 Oregon Ducks, then followed by San Diego State, who made it to a Super Regional last season. After opening up the tournament with a 4-1 win over the Ducks, they held off the Aztecs for a 7-5 victory. Then, following a 10-2 run rule over victory LMU, they battled the Aztecs again and ended with a 1-0 win.

In their final game of the weekend, they had to face Oregon for a second time. After a rough start to the weekend for the Ducks, they seem to have started to find their bats, making the matchup against the Aggies. Scoreless through four innings, a red-hot Allie Enright hit a double into left field, scoring Kramer Eschete for a 1-0 lead. All-SEC Catcher added an insurance run with a solo homer in the sixth for the game’s final run. Emiley Kennedy continued her dominance from the mound, coming in to close out the game for a final score of 2-0.

No. 25 Texas A&M softball starts off the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a win over No. 14 Oregon

Texas A&M starts of the Campbell/Cartier Classic off strong defeating the No. 14 Oregon Ducks 4-1

Head coach Trisha Ford notched her first Top 25 win of the season as Texas A&M moves to 5-0 after defeating the No. 14 Oregon Ducks 4-1 in the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego.

The Aggies got out to an early lead with a four-hit, two-run second inning to go up 2-0. Lefty pitcher Emiley Kennedy got out of a jam in the bottom of the third, only giving up one run after allowing the hits and hitting on the batter. A&M extended their lead when pinch hitter Ayiana Coleman delivered again for Coach Ford with a single through the left side, scoring two for a score of 4-1.

Kenndy stayed hot from the mound, striking out four of the final nine batters for a new career high of 11 strikeouts, completing a full game. Allie Enright led the team with two hits while Ayiana Coleman, Rylen Wiggins, Amari Harper, Trisha Cannon, and Jaz Hill all had hits as well.

The Texas A&M softball team went 4-0 in the Aggie Classic for a strong start to the season

The Aggies softball team sweeps the weekend with a strong offensive output

The long ball was on full display over the weekend with the Aggies hitting an impressive 12 home runs over four games. They outscored their opponents 39-9 on 34 hits and ran the bases well.

It’s a good start but they still have some work to do as they allowed 9 runs in just two games. Besides that, Coach Trisha Ford has a lot to like from what she’s seen so far.

“For Aggie softball um I thought our offense tonight um was just absolutely dynamic I don’t know just lots of hard hit balls they’ve been working hard our lineup as you can tell has changed quite dramatically from last year”
“..just you know for me it’s first you know day of the season so some good and some things that we need to improve on which I think is always good.”

Texas A&M Softball’s 2024 National TV schedule has been released

The Aggies’ nationally televised schedule is out, and fans will get eight chances to see them take on a number of SEC opponents

Head softball coach Trisha Ford is ready to get rolling in a few weeks and we now know what games will be nationally televised. With a solid core returning from last year and an experienced transfer pool to boot, the Aggies have a lot to look forward to when the season starts.

Leading the way will be the SEC pre-season No.1 ranked catcher Julia Cottrill and the No.19 nationally ranked outfielder Jazmine Hill. Both players bring energy and a veteran presence to the field that the team can benefit from while making a run to the super regionals.

Out of the eight televised games, three will be at home: South Carolina, Auburn, and Kentucky. The remaining five will be on the road: Alabama and Florida. For the dates and times, you can check the image below.

Texas A&M softball lands two players on Softball America’s top 100 players list

A pair of Aggies earn a top 100 ranking from Softball America.

Coach Trisha Ford is past the honeymoon phase in Aggieland and is ready to push her team to the next level. To get there she brought in a few familiar faces from her ASU days and kept the core of her team together which can be a chore on its own.

There will be no shortage of competition on the practice field and they will have two top 100 players leading the way. Softball America named Julia Cottrill (64) and Jazmine Hill (76) as both landed on that list. Both players also came in nationally ranked in their respective positions with Cottrill at No. 6 for catchers and Hill at No. 19 for outfield.

Texas A&M catcher Julia Cottrill enters the 2024 season ranked in the top 10

Aggie catcher come in ranked as one of the best in the nation.

Davis Diamond will be an exciting place to be in the spring with many new faces ready to make a run at the super regional. It won’t be an easy task as the SEC is loaded with talent and the Aggies are currently projected to finish eighth in the league.

However, a solid showing last year under first-year Head Coach Trisha Ford has her team ranked in the Top 25 across multiple polls. Helping lead the team into the new season is the sixth-ranked catcher in the nation, Julia Cottrill. On top of that recognition, she was the only Aggie to be named the Preseason All-SEC Team and ranked the number one catcher in the conference.

Cottrill was one of my favorite players to watch last season. With vast experience combined with her passionate play, the Aggies are lucky to have a proven leader throughout the 2024 season. We can’t wait to see her excel and propel the Aggies to the next level. Below are Cottrill’s stats from last season.

The Texas A&M softball team makes Softball America’s Top 25 rankings

The Aggies, under the first-year head coach Trisha Ford, had a little bit of a mixed bag but showed signs of improvement overall. After an overall binging multiple familiar faces through the portal and adding some seasoned coaches, the arrow is pointed up for this A&M squad.

Coach Ford’s Aggies will enter the 2024 season just inside of the top 20 Softball America’s Top 25 rankings at No. 19. Some other notable teams were the perennial top dog Oklahoma in the No. 1 spot, Tennessee is No.2, Texas is No. 7, and LSU is No. 12. There is a lot to be excited about moving forward. Coach Ford believes she has a team ready to make some noise as a team.

“I think we could be a Super Regional team 100%  and it’s just going to be whether or not we can put the pieces together. Super Regional teams a lot of things can go whichever way and then you’re at the promised land, so my goal is for us to just get to Super Regionals and see what happens from there. But it’s just going to depend on how consistently we can execute at a high level. We have the talent it’s just going to be can we you are you going to love that grind are you going to love the day in and day out the high-level Softball play the pressure you know you have to love”

An early look at year two for Texas A&M head softball coach Trisha Ford

Head Softball coach Trisha Ford previews the 2024 season and she is excited to get started

The Texas A&M softball team is putting in work this off-season in preparation for coach Trisha Ford’s second year at the helm.

Some new faces on the staff and players will be on the diamond this season. We got to see our first look at those fresh faces during the fall ball and now they are ready for the season.

“I’m just excited I think that we have a lot of good ingredients and it’s going to be up to us if whether or not we can kind of put them all together but um we’ve got a good mixture of old good mixture of new and really they understand what to expect out of us you know now”

There is always a question if new players will gel with the current team especially with the transfer portal being so active these days and Coach Ford is excited about where they currently are with the new teammates.

“we honestly have been spoiled the last two years they’ve transitioned so well”

The full 2024 schedule for the Texas A&M Softball team has been released

The Aggie softball team now knows the date and who they will be playing in 2024.

Year two under Trisha Ford is approaching, and the full schedule has been released.

Coach Ford, similar to Head women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor, hit the transfer portal with a purpose and brought in some familiar faces to go with her already talented team. There will be no shortage of competition, especially in the infield, where a lot of speed and athleticism have been added.

Not only is the Aggie roster stacked with talented new faces, but Coach Ford has added veteran coach Eric Leyba and talented player developer Bobby Buchanan. From the players to the staff, the team has a healthy mix of experience and youth that makes this squad that will surprise the softball world this season.

One of the highlights of the non-conference schedule is the Judi Garman Classic, which takes place from February 29 – March 3 in Southern California and is hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
