Walker Kessler named Co-SEC Player of the Week

This was a no doubter.

Following two dominant games against Arkansas and Texas A&M, Walker Kessler has been named the Co-SEC Player of the Week.

Kessler averaged 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 9.5 blocks in the two games. He recorded his second triple-double of the season against Texas A&M, when he finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 blocks.

He became the only player in NCAA Division I with multiple triple-doubles this season and the fifth player in SEC history to record multiple triple-doubles (2) next to Shaquille O’Neal (6) of LSU, Nick Calathes (2) of Florida, Roy Rogers (2) of Alabama and Jarvis Varnado (2) of Mississippi State.

Kessler is averaging 11.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per contest and leads the nation in shots blocked per game. His 4.6 blocks per game are more than nine SEC teams are averaging on the season.

He shared the weekly award with Kentucky forward Oscar Tshiebwe.

No. 2 Auburn (23-2, 11-1) will return to action on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Auburn Arena.

Steph Curry calls his shooting night ‘trash’ after win vs. Lakers

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry said he played ‘like trash’ despite his 21-point triple-double in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday.

The Golden State Warriors went to the Staples Center and left with a win Tuesday on the back of a Steph Curry triple-double and Nemanja Bjelica double-double. Despite his stat-sheet stuffing performance, Curry said he played “like trash” after finishing 5-for-21 on the night. Even with his rough shooting display, Curry still contributed 10 assists, 10 rebounds and three steals on the night.

“I played like trash, shot the ball terribly, but if we can win a game like that where we create some good shots and just stuck with it defensively against a good team, that’s a good omen for us,” Curry said.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis each put in 33-plus point, 11-rebound nights but the Los Angeles Lakers bench contributed just 29 points in the loss – the Warriors bench, for comparison, put up 55. The Warriors outscored the Lakers 38 to 29 on 63.2% shooting in the fourth quarter, icing the win. If the team can ride shooting performances like that, even when Curry is not necessarily putting the ball in the net like he normally does, they can beat anybody.

LeBron James totaled 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 112-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. In doing so, King James became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double against all 30 teams in the league. LeBron now ranks fifth all-time in career triple-doubles with 86.

Entering the game against the Thunder, LeBron and Russell Westbrook each had triple-doubled against 29 different franchises. Jason Kidd had triple-doubled against 28 different teams, while Larry Bird and Magic Johnson had done so against 25 teams and 24 teams, respectively. But nobody had ever earned double digits in three categories during a game against every team in the league prior to LeBron doing so last night.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel told his team in the locker room following their 12th win of the season:

LeBron James made NBA history tonight. He became the first player in the league to have a triple-double against every team in the NBA with his triple-double tonight.

In addition to Frank Vogel and his teammates showing love for the milestone, LeBron also received a celebratory message from his mother that he shared on Instagram.

“Congratulations kid!” Gloria James wrote, adding:

On being the first player in league history to score a triple-double against all the teams in the league!!!! You are the GOAT. You should celebrate tonight. Love you.

The Lakers will play a home-and-home with the Thunder as they are now travel to Oklahoma City for a rematch with the team they just beat on Friday. They will then complete their road back-to-back by traveling to Memphis for a date with Ja Morant and the Grizzlies on Saturday, before meeting the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.
