Jake Paul has date with real fighter, former UFC star Ben Askren

Jake Paul reportedly will face former UFC star Ben Askren on April 17.

Jake Paul might’ve bitten off more than he can chew.

The YouTube personality, who knocked out retired NBA player Nate Robinson in November, will face an actual fighter – former MMA star Ben Askren – in an eight-round boxing match on April 17, ESPN is reporting.

Paul is 2-0 as a boxer. Askren, 36, will be taking part in his first boxing match.

“I know Jake Paul is enjoying pretending he is a fighter,” Askren said, according to ESPN. “I think on April 17 he is going to have a rude awakening to what being a fighter is really like. Jake has led a privileged life and doesn’t really know what the meaning of being a fighter is.

“I’m going to put his dreams to an end.”

Paul is predicting a knockout.

“Ben Askren is a two-time NCAA champion, a world champion in two different global mixed martial arts organizations and has less losses on his record than Conor McGregor,” Paul said.

“Me, on the other hand, I started boxing two years ago and I’m still going to knock his ass out faster than [Jorge] Masvidal.

“These MMA guys think because they throw punches they know how to box. The world complained because I knocked out a basketball player and not a real fighter. So now I’m giving the people what they want by taking on a ‘real fighter.’

“After Ben Askren is added to my knockout meme collection, what can anybody say? Thank you to Triller Fight Club for giving me the platform to once again put a man to sleep. April 17, it’s lights out for Askren.”

Triller Fight Club is promoting the event. Triller, the social networking service, was behind the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. exhibition on Nov. 28. Paul stopped Robinson in two rounds on that card.

Askren (19-2 with UFC) retired last year because he needed hip-replacement surgery, which reportedly was successful.

He also was a collegiate champion and 2008 Olympian in amateur wrestling.

Roy Jones Jr. threatens to pull out of Mike Tyson event over delay

Roy Jones Jr. is threatening to pull out of his Nov. 28 pay-per-view exhibition with Mike Tyson over the postponement of the event.

Roy Jones Jr. is threatening to pull out of his Nov. 28 pay-per-view exhibition with Mike Tyson over the postponement of the event.

Jones, 51, told DailyMail.com that the moving the event from Sept. 28 to November will have cost him money. If he’s not compensated, he said, he’ll walk away from the much-hyped eight-round “fight.”

The digital platform Triller, which is co-hosting the event, announced that it was pushed back. Tyson said the delay would allow more time for marketing.

“For me it was more about pushing to go ahead and do it, firstly because I’m focused and you need to stay focused,” he said. “… I’ve had to cancel other stuff to be out here, it’s upset my calendar, I’ve got to change things.

“… That’s the biggest issue. I’m not a full time boxer anymore so I do other things to make an income. If I can’t do other things, then I should be compensated for that, because it changes the schematics. It’s not acceptable.”

Jones said he is working with organizers to resolve the issue.

“We’re trying to figure something out, my lawyers [are] talking with their lawyers, trying to figure out ways to make it a better situation so that I can compensated for it, that is more beneficial for me to do,” he said. “…  If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off.

“Why would I change the date and mess up the rest of my year when I agreed to September 12. They said they wanted to get a crowd. If you want to get a crowd, that’s a different type of money. If you want a big event, that’s a different type of money.

“You think I’m going to say, OK, let’s look at my money, but I’m not getting no better percent. How dumb is that to me? So let’s see what happens.”

Could the delay help him in terms of training?

“If everything works out, yes,” he said. “I don’t know if things …  if everything will work out yet.”

Mike Tyson to face Roy Jones Jr. in comeback fight on Sept. 12

Mike Tyson will face Roy Jones Jr. on Sept. 12 in an eight-round exhibition, called “Frontline Battle,” on pay-per-view.

Mike Tyson’s comeback fight is set. And his opponent is familiar.

Tyson will face Roy Jones Jr. on Sept. 12 in an eight-round exhibition, which has been dubbed “Frontline Battle,” on pay-per-view, according to multiple reports. It will also be available on the social media outlet Triller.

The “fight” could take place in California but that reportedly hasn’t been finalized.

Tyson-Jones will be the main event of a full card, and the event will include live musical performances, according to TMZ.

Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) hasn’t fought since 2005 but the 54-year-old has become a public fitness fanatic. He has teased his comeback for months by posting videos of himself training as if he were in his prime.

Evander Holyfield followed his lead, announcing that he too intended to fight again and suggested he might face his old rival. However, Tyson went an unexpected direction.

Jones (66-9, 47 KOs) is a former heavyweight titleholder but is known primarily as one of the best ever from middleweight to light heavyweight. The 51-year-old took part in a cruiserweight fight as recently as February 2018.

Jones outpointed John Ruiz to win a heavyweight title in 2003.

TMZ is also reporting that Triller, which is backed by the likes of Snoop, Lil Wayne, Future, The Weekend, Pitbull and Marshmello, also has the rights to a 10-part documentary series that will follow the fighters as they prepare for their showdown.

Triller, a growing platform, once focused on music but obviously is expanding into other branches of entertainment.
