Bengals exec hyped as future NFL general manager

Bengals exec hyped as future NFL general manager

The Cincinnati Bengals have become one of the better-run organizations in recent years. Having a stable quarterback situation certainly helps, but the combination of head coach Zac Taylor and director of player personnel Duke Tobin help as well. That trickles down and could help create future candidates for a general manager position.

One such candidate was mentioned in a recent survey from The Athletic, which looked at organizational structure and the top general managers as voted on by executives and agents. Among the questions asked was who is a future general manager to watch? Of the 31 responses, Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown received two votes. He was tied with a few others for third place. Only Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham (4) and Commanders senior vice president of football operations Brandon Sosna (3) received more votes than Brown.

“Trey (Brown) is already receiving GM interviews,” said one of the agents, anonymously. “His time is coming. I learn something whenever I listen to him discuss the talent evaluation exercise.”

Brown has had three GM interviews to date: May 2017 with the Buffalo Bills, December 2018 with the then-Oakland Raiders and January 2022 with the now-Las Vegas Raiders. The New England Patriots requested an interview with Brown earlier this year but he declined the interview. Brown has also served as the director of scouting for the Philadelphia Eagles and also worked in the XFL and the old AAF (Alliance of American Football).

Bengals exec Trey Brown reportedly turns down Patriots GM interview

Some big news for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals got some good news recently with senior personnel executive Trey Brown turning down an interview for the New England Patriots de facto GM position, according to Tom Pelissero.

That means Brown will likely be with the Bengals for at least one more season, but after the 2024-25 season, he will be a top GM candidate again.

Brown was promoted to the role he currently fills in 2022 after joining the Bengals in 2021 as a scout.

Before that he was a scout for New England from 2010-12, worked for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-19 and joined the Saint Louis Battlehawks for the 2020 season before heading back to the NFL.

Bengals executive declines request to interview for Patriots’ de facto GM job

Bengals executive Trey Brown reportedly turned down a request to interview for the Patriots’ de facto GM role

Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown has reportedly declined a request to interview for the New England Patriots’ de facto general manager job, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Patriots have officially begun their search to fill the position. Eliot Wolf took on the job in an interim role after the team split with former coach Bill Belichick in January.

He is a candidate and likely favorite to win the job after his work in free agency and the 2024 NFL draft. That could prompt other potential candidates to pass on the Patriots’ job interview as well.

Brown has history with the organization as a scouting assistant and area scout under coach Bill Belichick. He has spent over a decade building his resume and gaining experience working with multiple organizations. So he’s clearly a viable candidate for the job.

But it needs to be the right job, and for whatever reason, whether it’s Wolf or something else, Brown felt like that place wasn’t New England.

Bengals’ Trey Brown has notable link to rebuilding Patriots, Jerod Mayo

Could Bengals executive Trey Brown pop up with the Patriots?

Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown has a connection to the New England Patriots worth mentioning as the hiring cycle continues to heat up.

Those Patriots just hired Jerod Mayo as head coach and will now move to fill such roles as general manager.

In an interesting twist, as pointed out by CLNS Media’s Taylor Kyles, there’s a connection there — Brown was a scouting assistant and area scout for the Patriots back in 2012.

Brown has already been prominent in the hiring cycle, notably getting an opportunity to interview for the general manager position with the Las Vegas Raiders.

With the Patriots moving quickly, Brown might be one to watch for the budding plan in Foxboro, too.

Bengals’ Trey Brown to get GM interview with Raiders

A member of the Bengals gets a big chance.

At least one member of the Cincinnati Bengals front office will get a look from other teams during this offseason’s hiring cycle.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Las Vegas Raiders have requested an interview with Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown for their vacant general manager position.

Brown’s name coming up in these discussions was inevitable due to resume and performance. Before joining the Bengals in 2021, he had links to Bill Belichick in New England and Howie Roseman in Philadelphia, to name a few of the bigger points.

Reportedly a part of the GM search in Las Vegas a few years ago before the brief Mike Mayock era, Brown’s loss would be significant to a Bengals team that relies so heavily on the proper marriage of scouting and coaching.

Several more candidates interview for Raiders open General Manager position

Up to three interviews now for Raiders GM job

The Raiders are wasting no time in their efforts to find a replacement for recently fired Mike Mayock as General Manager. Today former Bengals scout Trey Brown became the third to interview with the team according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The previous interviews have been with Bears Assistant Director of Player Personnel Champ Kelly and Patriots Director of Player Personnel Dave Ziegler.

Previous reports had the Raiders expected to put in a request to interview Colts Vice President of Player Personnel Ed Dodds, though no reported interview has happened as of yet. Dodds was then reported as having withdrawn from candidacy for the Bears open GM position.

The string of GM interviews should come as very good news. The Raiders are also in a search for their next head coach. And whomever that ends up being should be selected at least in part by the new GM, so it’s important to have him in the building before the head coach hire is made.

Thus far the only outside head coaching interview the Raiders have had is with Patriots LB coach Jerod Mayo. They have also interviewed current Interim Head Coach Rich Bisaccia.
