2023 NFL draft: Alex’s final 7-round projections for Chargers

Find out how Chargers Wire’s Alex Katson thinks the 2023 NFL draft will play out for Los Angeles.

We are just one day away from the beginning of the 2023 NFL draft, an event bound to unite Chargers fans everywhere in their optimism about the future of the team.

(Okay, maybe not. But it will at least shift the talking points to something else.)

With 24 hours to go, here’s my crack at what the Chargers could do over the next three days. Keep in mind that while this is a predictive mock, it’s naturally influenced by a number of biases – familiarity with certain players, the big board on the mock draft simulator I use, things I would like to see the team do even if they bend tendencies a bit, etc. Now that we have that disclaimer out of the way, you’re not allowed to yell at me. Let’s get into it.

Report: Dolphins met with Louisville OT Trevor Reid pre-draft

They do need help at the position.

After the first waves of free agency have passed, the Miami Dolphins don’t have a clear-cut answer as to what their tackle situation is going to look like in 2023.

Terron Armstead’s name is written in permanent marker at left tackle, but the right side and depth spots are completely up in the air. Austin Jackson started two games at right tackle, but injuries derailed his season.

Miami also brought back Kendall Lamm and Geron Christian, who were both free agents this offseason after spending time with the team in 2022.

However, the Dolphins could look to the draft to find these answers. In fact, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, they’ve already met with a potential solution in Louisville offensive tackle Trevor Reid.

Wilson reported that Miami is one of the many teams the former Cardinal has met with through the pre-draft process, but he wasn’t specific about whether the meeting took place at Louisville’s pro day or the Shrine Bowl.

Reid hasn’t been talked about as a top-flight draft prospect, but after an impressive pro day that included a 38-inch vertical, 10-4 broad jump and a 4.9-second 40-yard dash, some are seeing him as a Day 3 project.

At 6-foot-4 and 311 pounds, the Dolphins could certainly use a late pick on a developmental tackle while they figure out what they have in Jackson as the starter this year.

Chiefs had pre-draft meeting with Louisville OT Trevor Reid

The #Chiefs have met with one of the top athletes at the offensive tackle position in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have their eyes on one of the top athletes at the offensive tackle position in the 2023 NFL draft class.

According to KPRC2 NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs were among the teams to meet with Louisville OT Trevor Reid either at his pro day or the East-West Shrine Bowl. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 311 pounds (up 14 pounds from the All-Star game), Reid posted a workout at his pro day that would have reached several top marks at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. He posted a 4.90s 40-yard dash, a 38-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-4 broad jump and 25 repetitions of 225 on the bench press.

Reid started just 25 games for the Cardinals during the course of his career, with the vast majority of his snaps coming at left tackle. He is coming off of a season where he allowed just 13 pressures, but three of those pressures were sacks on the quarterback. He’s traditionally been a better pass blocker than a run blocker, but he moves quite well in space.

Reid clearly has a lot of the tools and athletic skills necessary for success at the NFL level, but he’s got some work to do in order to ensure that success. A team like Kansas City would likely view him as competition at the right tackle position for Lucas Niang with the potential to develop into a starter or swing tackle.

2023 NFL draft: Chargers have private workout with Louisville OT Trevor Reid

Trevor Reid turned some heads at Louisville’s pro day on Tuesday.

Draft season is heating up, even with executives in Phoenix, AZ for the league meetings.

Aaron Wilson reported Tuesday that the Chargers had scheduled a private workout with Louisville offensive lineman Trevor Reid. The workout is set to take place on Monday.

Reid attended this year’s Shrine Bowl, where Chargers Wire reported that Los Angeles’ scouts on hand were focused on the offensive line groups. After his strong performance in Las Vegas, NV, the 6-foot-4 tackle turned some heads at Louisville’s pro day on Tuesday.

At 311 pounds, Reid ran a 4.9 40-yard dash, benched 225 pounds 25 times, and jumped 38 inches in the vertical and 10-foot-4 in the broad jump. All of those numbers, save the bench press, would have been the best marks for an offensive lineman at the NFL Combine in early March.

Reid profiles as a developmental Day 3 pick.
