As the NBA prepares to invade Orlando in July to resume and finish the 2019-20 season, there are still some ironing out to do in terms of the 2020-21 season.

Both the Board of Governors and the Player’s Union has agreed on the return to play plan, but there are some details for 2020-21 that still need to be worked out. For example, is the league going to try and get everything back on schedule for the 2021-22 season? As of right now, it appears to be the case.

Obviously, the current season is going to end sometime in early October which then means the 2020-21 season cannot start in the normal time frame of around October 18. So, we could be looking at a situation similar to the lockout-shortened season of 2011-12 when they played 66 games and there were a lot of back-to-backs in an effort to keep the regular schedule moving forward.

According to ESPN’s Time Bontemps, that appears to be the case as Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said that’s the league’s plan moving forward.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, this means that things will be happening at a rapid-fire pace for them. They will have this important finish to the season and then they will have to quickly shift into an offseason mode and then prepare for the 2020-21 season which will be grueling, to say the least. It plays a factor for Joel Embiid as the team is attempting to put him on a load management plan. This will test those plans for the future. [lawrence-related id=32788,32778,32766]

After the Warriors moved on from Mark Jackson as head coach in 2014, the search narrowed on two final candidates: former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy and then-TNT broadcaster Steve Kerr. Former Warriors assistant general manager Travis Schlenk was part of the team that interviewed both contenders and says the front office at one point wasn’t sure they’d even get a chance to sit down with Kerr during the process.

“Steve was being courted very hard by Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks,” Schlenk said on 95.7 The Game last week. “And at one point during the process, it felt like that’s where he was going to go. And so we didn’t think that we were going to even have an opportunity to really sit down and talk with Steve. And I believe it was while we were meeting with Stan down in Orlando, that Steve called Bob and said he kinda had a change of heart and he wanted to meet with us.”
