Freshman guard Travis Perry was praised by teammate Andrew Carr

Incoming Freshman guard Travis Perry has received praise from forward Andrew Carr.

The 2024-25 Kentucky basketball team has a lot of questions due to the changes at head coach and subsequent roster rebuild. The previous players all chose to transfer, and all but one recruit elected to decommit. The lone 2024 recruit to stay was guard Travis Perry.

Perry is from the state of Kentucky and always dreamed of playing for the Cats. He’ll get his chance now, and early word is that he’s making a name for himself.

Kentucky forward Andrew Carr specifically mentioned Perry when speaking with reporters.

Travis Perry has done a really good job. Sometimes you walk in and he’s at 500, 600 shots up in the day, something like that. And he’s still at 85 percent. And I’m like “How is that possible?” I look over and it’s all threes, he’s at 85 percent. It’s pretty crazy. He made 59 in a row from the corner the other day. It’s incredible.”

Perry was an excellent three-point shooter in high school, and helped him become the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school history. He’s hoping for a chance to show what he can do with the Wildcats this season, even on a veteran roster. Carr seems to believe he’s capable of big things, and it’s certain that fans think so too.

Travis Perry makes a decision about Kentucky Wildcats basketball

Travis Perry has made his decision about his future with Kentucky basketball.

The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team originally had six recruits committed for the class of 2024. Five of the six left pretty quickly once the coaching change happened, leaving Travis Perry as the last recruit standing for new coach Mark Pope.

Perry was at Pope’s introductory press conference, but he had not officially announced whether or not he would stay committed to the Wildcats. On Monday, he did just that.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Perry posted his intentions to stay at Kentucky, and play under Pope. He added that he is “100% a Wildcat!”

Perry is a guard out of Lyon County, Kentucky. His ability to shoot it from anywhere and score in bunches made him a top 100 recruit. He chose Kentucky over Alabama, Cincinnati, and others.

New coach Mark Pope is certain to love the kind of game Perry brings with him. Pope is still putting his roster for next year together, so it’s impossible to predict what the rotation will look like. However, with Perry staying in Lexington, it seems certain that he’ll get some playing time, and could be a difference maker.

Alabama lands in top 5 for 2024 PG Travis Perry

Alabama is one of five finalists to land 2024 point guard Travis Perry. The Kentucky native took an official visit to Alabama over the weekend.

Following his official visit to Alabama this past weekend, 2024 point guard Travis Perry has announced his top five schools as well as a decision date. Alabama was named as a finalist and Perry will announce his commitment on Sunday, Nov. 12th.

Perry plays for Lyon County High School in Eddyville, Kentucky. As a junior, Perry reportedly became the 37th player in Kentucky high school basketball history to surpass 4,000 career points. He also set a record for most three-pointers with 464 made shots from beyond the arc.

While Alabama just entered the mix to land the sharpshooter, there is still some optimism on Alabama’s side. Perry released his top schools and a commitment date soon after a trip to Tuscaloosa has to be a good sign. Regardless if he chooses to commit elsewhere, Alabama will likely continue to push for the Kentucky native.

4-star 2024 PF Cooper Koch commits to the Iowa Hawkeyes

In a major recruiting win, Iowa landed legacy commit Cooper Koch. The four-star power forward in the 2024 class is out of Peoria, Ill.

Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball just secured a big-time commitment from class of 2024 power forward Cooper Koch.

The 6-foot-7, 205 pound product of Peoria Notre Dame High School in Illinois is rated by 247Sports as a four-star talent, the nation’s No. 51 overall player in the 2024 class, the No. 8 power forward and the No. 4 player from Illinois.

ESPN also ranks Koch as a four-star recruit, the country’s No. 57 player nationally and the No. 3 player from the state of Illinois. Koch is the son of former Hawkeye forward J.R. Koch, who played for Iowa from 1995-99. His father was a second-round 1999 NBA draft selection of the New York Knicks.

“I have grown up dreaming of playing for the Hawkeyes. Yesterday I made that dream a reality! I am proud to say I have committed to play for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and Coach McCaffery!” Koch wrote on Twitter.

Iowa was Koch’s first Power Five offer all the way back on May 11, 2021. Now, he’s the first Hawkeye commit in the 2024 class. Koch chose Iowa over offers from schools such as Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

The commitment from Koch is a major recruiting coup for Iowa head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery. In fact, Koch represents the third highest-rated commit Iowa has ever secured according to 247Sports since the service began ranking players.

The only two players to rank ahead of Koch according to 247Sports were small forward Tyler Smith in the 2006 class and center Adam Woodbury in the 2012 class.

With that in mind, Koch’s commitment could help lure in other big-time players to consider making Iowa City a part of their futures. Iowa just recently offered 2023 Moline High School point guard Brock Harding. Harding is teammates with current class of 2023 commit Owen Freeman.

In the 2024 class, Iowa has also recently offered Lyon County High School point guard Travis Perry, St. Rita High School shooting guard Nojus Indrusaitis, Pewaukee High School combo guard Nick Janowski and Sycamore High School center Raleigh Burgess.
