Breaking down LSU transfer QB addition AJ Swann

Here’s what LSU’s getting with Vanderbilt QB transfer AJ Swann.

LSU added to its quarterback room on Monday, picking up a commitment from Vanderbilt transfer [autotag]AJ Swann[/autotag].

The addition wasn’t a surprise. It had been known LSU was in the market for a QB with some experience and several years of eligibility remaining.

Swann fits that bill. The rising junior appeared in 15 games in two seasons at Vanderbilt but has two years of eligibility left and potentially more if he redshirts in 2024.

[autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] is expected to be LSU’s starter in 2024. But Swann is a guy who can push him and adds insurance should Nussmeier get hurt.

Before adding Swann, LSU lacked a backup QB with any meaningful experience. That makes this a critical pickup.

Penn State has been no stranger to the transfer portal with a number of players choosing to continue their college careers elsewhere in recent years. But the Nittany Lions have also added to their roster through transfer portal options.

We’ll be keeping track of all of the transfer portal activity out of Happy Valley and see where players ultimately decide to go once they make their decisions known. And if Penn State adds any players from the portal, we’ll make a note of that as well.

Penn State freshman Ken Talley enters transfer portal, removed from roster

Penn State four-star edge rusher Ken Talley entered the transfer portal and is no longer listed on the team’s official website.

One of Penn State’s key additions in the Class of 2022 has already stepped foot into the NCAA transfer portal. Ken Talley, a four-star edge rusher from Philadelphia, has reportedly entered his name in the transfer portal and he is no longer listed on the team’s official roster on the team’s website.

Talley was the final member of Penn State’s Class of 2022 to join the program on campus, and it looks like he will be the first to leave it as well. The sudden loss of Talley is a tough one for Penn State, as he had been committed to the program since 2020 and chose the Nittany Lions over a number of lucrative scholarship offers to stay in-state.

By entering the transfer portal, Talley is now free to have conversations with any college football program that may be interested in his recruiting. A player can always take their name out of the transfer portal and remain at their current institution, but more times than not the player ultimately moves to a new school.

We’ll keep tabs on where Talley goes from here. Meanwhile, Penn State will have one less four-star talent to rely on with the defensive line.
