Despite missing players like Andre Iguodala, Damion Lee, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, the Golden State Warriors secured their sixth consecutive win with a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Following an explosive 16-2 run to end the first half, the Warriors surged to a 118-103 win against the Trail Blazers. All five of Golden State’s starters tallied double-figures in scoring.

Steph Curry led the Warriors with a game-high 32 points on 12-of-25 shooting from the field with eight assists and seven boards. Golden State’s MVP candidate drilled six triples on 15 attempts from beyond the arc.

Andrew Wiggins followed his teammates with another impressive performance, scoring 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor.

Led by Draymond Green, the Warriors’ defense didn’t allow an individual member of the Trail Blazers to reach 20 points. Anfernee Simons led the Trail Blazers with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting in 29 minutes off the bench. With 16 points, the Warriors held Damian Lillard to his lowest-scoring performance in his last nine games.

3 things to know: Clutch heroics from Damian Lillard ices Warriors late in Portland, 108-106

Despite 35 points from Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors couldn’t stop Dame Time in Portland.

Heading into the fourth quarter of a back and forth battle with the Golden State Warriors, Damian Lillard was uncharacteristically cold for the Portland Trail Blazers. The All-Star guard tallied only 12 points on 3-of-12 shooting from the floor and 1-of-6 from long distance through the first three quarters.

However, with the game close in the final minutes, “Dame Time” went into effect. After drilling a 3-pointer to tie the game with two minutes remaining, Lillard buried a lethal triple that ripped through the net to give the Trail Blazers the lead with 14 seconds remaining.

After hitting a pair of clutch jumpers, Lillard stepped up on the defensive end of the floor. When Draymond Green drove to the bucket for an open lay-up to tie the game on the next possession, Lillard slide in his path for a controversial charge call. After a review, the charge stood, icing the game in Portland’s favor, 108-106.

Lillard finished the contest with 22 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field with six assists and five boards in 37 minutes for the Trail Blazers.

The Warriors will have to bounce back on Thursday with the second leg of a road back-to-back slated against the red-hot Phoenix Suns.

Prior to the start of the contest in Portland, Kelly Oubre Jr. was ruled out with a sprained left wrist, leaving the Warriors without one of their top secondary scorers behind Steph Curry. With Oubre Jr. sidelined, the Warriors turned to Kent Bazemore.

The veteran guard registered one of Golden State’s four double-figure scoring performances against the Blazers, notching 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field with six boards and an assist in 30 minutes for the Warriors.

Whenever Steph Curry laces up against Damian Lillard, there are bound to be fireworks. As Lillard waited till late in the fourth quarter to make noise, Curry opened the game with 16 points in the first quarter for Golden State.

The two-time Most Valuable Player rode his scoring run to 35 points on 13-of-28 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and five assists in 36 minutes against Lillard and the Trail Blazers.

Highlight of the night

On his way to being named a starter for the 2021 All-Star game, Steph Curry has provided a barrage of highlight-worthy plays. On Wednesday in Portland, the two-time Most Valuable Player added another to his 2020-21 resume.

Late in the third quarter, Curry caught a pass from Draymond Green after cutting in the lane. With Enes Kanter roaming the paint, Curry flipped up a high arcing lay-up that bounced on top of the rim before falling through the net.

Steph Curry had social media buzzing on Sunday night. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player exploded for a career-high 62 points on 18-of-31 shooting from the field.

Before the Warriors capped off their 137-122 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center, Curry capped off his memorable performance with back-to-back deep triples to get to 62.

Curry’s effort against the Blazers surpassed his previous career-high of 54 points against the New York Knicks in 2013. Along with a new career-high mark, the six-time All-Star set a new scoring high for San Francisco’s Chase Center.

The Golden State point guard’s 62 was a scoring high for the young 2020-21 NBA season. Curry was the first NBA player to drop 60 or more points since Damian Lillard on August 11 against the Dallas Mavericks in the Orlando Bubble.

Curry joined Klay Thompson, Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain and Joe Fulks as the fourth member of the Golden State Warriors to score 60 or more points.

On the Warriors’ way to a much-needed win at Chase Center, Steph Curry tallied XX points on XX-of-XX shooting against the Trail Blazers.

On Sunday night, the story starts and ends with Steph Curry. 

In Golden State’s 137-122 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center, the two-time Most Valuable Player tallied a new career-high with 62 points on 18-of-31 shooting from the field with five boards and four assists in 36 minutes. In signature fashion, Curry knocked down eight triples on 16 attempts from beyond the arc. 

With the clock ticking down in the fourth quarter, Curry knocked down a pair of signature deep 3-pointers to get to the 62 mark. Curry’s performance against Portland erased his previous career-high of 54 points that came against the New York Knicks in 2013. It was the seventh time in his career Curry notched 50 or more points. 

It didn’t take long for  Curry to heat up against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player got the Warriors off on the right foot, scoring 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. 

Despite Curry’s franchise-record 80 consecutive made free throw streak coming to a close in the first quarter, the Golden State point guard set a new high-mark on Sunday. 

Curry’s 62 points were good enough for a new scoring high at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Curry’s opponent Damian Lillard owned the previous high with 39 points against the Warriors on Nov. 5, 2019. 

Lillard and CJ McCollum attempted to trade buckets with Curry in the second half, combining for 60 points against the Warriors. However, it wasn’t enough to keep up with Golden State’s six-time All-Star. 

Coming off Curry’s impressive effort, the Warriors will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Chase Center.

Trail Blazers vs. Warriors Notebook: Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combine for 62 points to spoil Golden State’s home opener

In the Warriors’ 2020-21 home opener against the Trail Blazers, it didn’t take long for CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard to catch fire.

After four stops on the road to start the 2020-21 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors made their return to San Francisco’s Chase Center for their home opener against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Portland’s backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum quickly picked up the role of spoiler on New Year’s Day. The sharpshooting tandem combined for 62 points to lead the Trail Blazers to a blowout win at Chase Center, 123-98.

Golden State’s loose defense had no answer for Lillard as he scored his early-season high with 34 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field with eight assists, four rebounds and a steal. Lillard outdueled Steph Curry from beyond the arc, drilling six triples in comparison to Curry’s four.

Curry led the Warriors in scoring with 26 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the field. The point guard added eight rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes.

Lillard wasn’t the only member of the Blazers to have success from long distance against Golden State. Portland made 20 3-pointers on 46.5% shooting from deep. While the Trail Blazers could miss from outside, the Warriors only recorded seven 3-pointers on 35 attempts.

Before the Blazers leave town, Lillard and McCollum will return to Chase Center for the second consecutive game on Sunday at least 5 p.m. PST.

After winning the final two games of a four-game road trip to open the season, the Golden State Warriors will return to San Francisco for the start of a seven-game homestand. For the 2020-21 home opener at Chase Center, the Warriors will host the Portland Trail Blazers.

Along with suiting up in the Bay Area for the first time this season, Draymond Green is listed as probable to make his 2020-21 debut after missing the first four games of the season with an injury in his right foot. With Green potentially available, Steve Kerr could see a starting rotation that features Green, Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre Jr. and James Wiseman for the first time this season.

With Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum coming to town, Curry is coming off his two best performances of the young season, scoring 31 or more points in each contest.

To open their homestand on a positive note, the Warriors will have to corral Lillard. The last time the Bay Area native faced the Warriors, he tallied a career-high 61 points on 17-of-37 shooting from the field with 11 triples, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
