Trail Blazers at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 111, Spurs 108

Moneyline

BET TRAIL BLAZERS (+145).

Portland has won 2 of its last 4 games including 2 of its last 3 on the road. It has the advantage against a struggling Spurs team that is playing the second game of a back-to-back and will be without coach Greg Popovich, who left Saturday’s game after suffering a health issue. San Antonio has lost 2 straight games and 4 of its last 6.

Against the spread

PASS.

There is better value on the Blazers moneyline.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 217.5 (-115).

Portland has scored 114 points or more twice in its last 3 games and allowed 103 or more points in 7 of its 8 games. San Antonio has hit the Over in 3 consecutive games while allowing 113 points or more in back-to-back games.

Trail Blazers at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 119, Spurs 115

Moneyline

I’m not confident in either of these teams securing the win, but I’ll take the TRAIL BLAZERS (+150) as they provide solid value. Both teams are trying to improve their draft position by resting starters, however, the Spurs are in a better position for the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

Against the spread

TRAIL BLAZERS +4.5 (-110) is a good insurance pick in this contest considering that I took Portland to win outright. Plenty of players are expected to be out for both teams, but Portland has the slightly better lineup assuming that Johnson is out for San Antonio.

Over/Under

OVER 227.5 (-115) is the lean in this matchup as neither of these teams plays much defense. The Spurs have the worst defensive rating and the Trail Blazers have the 4th worst defensive rating in the NBA this season.

The Over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings overall between these teams and 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in San Antonio.

Portland Trail Blazers at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

The Trail Blazers are mired in a six-game losing streak and have lost 16 of their last 18 games. They lost 130-11 at the Spurs Friday.

The Spurs are battling for a spot in the play-in games to determine the final two seeds of the Western Conference. They are currently in 10th place, which is the final play-in spot, with a 1-game lead over the Los Angeles Lakers. They have won five of their last six games.

Trail Blazers at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 121, Blazers 103

Money line

PASS on the money line.

Portland appears to be simply playing out the rest of the season, while the Spurs have something to play for. The Trail Blazers are only 10-27 on the road this season.

The Spurs have won all three previous games between the two teams and the odds are too much to risk a wager. You would only win $6.25 on a $100 bet.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

None of the games between the two teams have been close this season. The Spurs won 114-83 (Dec. 2), 133-96 (March 23) and 130-111 (Friday).

The Blazers are only 13-24 ATS on the road this season, while the Spurs are 18-21 ATS at home. Portland has failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games, while San Antonio has covered it in five of its last six.

Go with the continuing trend. Take the SPURS -14.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Their game against each other went for 241 points Friday, but the first two matchups had totals of 197 and 229.

The Blazers have been held to fewer than 100 points nine times in 18 games since the All-Star break.  The Spurs have averaged 119.0 points per game in their last six contests.

It will come down to how many points Portland can score and I don’t think they will keep up.

Take UNDER 230.5 (-110).

Portland Trail Blazers at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Portland Trail Blazers at San Antonio Spurs NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The San Antonio Spurs (26-27) host the Portland Trail Blazers (31-23) Friday at AT&T Center for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Trail Blazers-Spurs odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Portland lost four of its past five games while going 1-4 against the spread, including two straight losses to the Miami Heat Sunday and the Boston Celtics Tuesday. The 6-seed Trail Blazers remain 1 game ahead of the seventh-place Dallas Mavericks and the 7- through 10-seeds participate in the Western Conference postseason play-in tournament.

San Antonio just wrapped up a five-game road swing 2-3 straight up and 3-2 ATS with the latest being a 117-112 loss at the Toronto Raptors as 5.5-point road favorites. The Spurs are 2 games in front of the 11th-place New Orleans Pelicans for the 10th and final seed in the play-in tournament.

San Antonio steamrolled Portland 125-104 in the first meeting of the season Jan. 18 as the Spurs had four 20-point scorers. Blazers SG C.J. McCollum didn’t play in the game and former Spurs leading scorer PF LaMarcus Aldridge was since bought out and recently retired.

Trail Blazers at Spurs: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Trail Blazers 121, Spurs 111

Money line (ML)

PASS because I “lean” to the Trail Blazers (-140) to cover but am not willing to pay the vig on the ML because we are getting the worst of the number since this game opened as a pick ’em.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Typically, I’d like to “fade” a lopsided handle like this but this is too good of a spot for the TRAIL BLAZERS -2.5 (-110).

The Blazers are 8-5 ATS in road games vs. teams with losing records, 3-1 ATS in their last four games vs. the Spurs and a much better team in tight games, which bookmakers project this to be.

Portland is 21-8 clutch situations with the second-highest net rating while San Antonio is 13-16 with the 23rd-ranked net rating in clutch games.

BET TRAIL BLAZERS -2.5 (-110) for .75 units only because we are late to the party.

Over/Under (O/U)

Just like the Portland side, more than 95% of the money is on the Over, causing bookmakers to move the total up from the 230.5-point opener, which makes this total a PASS for me.

I agree with the market’s read and “lean” to the Over, but we are getting the worst of the number and there’s no way I’m following that kind of a crowd in a sports bet.
