Twitter still can’t get enough of this insane TD pass from Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers’ 22-yard touchdown pass was the go-ahead score for the Packers on Monday night, and Twitter couldn’t get enough of it.

The Green Bay Packers took the lead and never looked back when quarterback Aaron Rodgers delivered a strike down the seam to tight end Robert Tonyan for a 22-yard touchdown in the third quarter of “Monday Night Football” against the Detroit Lions.

The touchdown pass – Rodgers’ third of the contest – gave the Packers a 21-17 lead. Matt LaFleur’s team went on to win, 35-17, and Rodgers threw four total touchdown passes.

Even on Tuesday morning, Twitter users can’t get enough of Rodgers’ touchdown pass to Tonyan. The All-22 angle really shows the magnitude of difficulty and impressiveness of the velocity and accuracy. He anticipated the opening in the coverage perfectly and zipped it past the defender, and Tonyan made the catch in stride for six. There’s nothing like a laser beam up the seam to beat a Cover-2, right Twitter?

All the milestone TD passes thrown by Packers QB Aaron Rodgers

Looking back at all the big milestone TD passes thrown by Aaron Rodgers, who hit 400 TD passes on Sunday.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has reached another historic milestone.

The two-time NFL MVP threw his 400th career touchdown pass on Sunday, becoming just the seventh quarterback in NFL history to reach the number.

Here’s a look back at all the milestone touchdown passes during Rodgers’ career:

WATCH: Taysom Hill completes his first career touchdown pass

New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill connected with wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith for the very first touchdown pass of his NFL career.

Cross it off your bingo board: New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill has thrown his first career touchdown pass, connecting with wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith on a crossing route deep in Atlanta Falcons territory. It was a matchup the Saints had been trying to get going early in Week 13’s matchup, though Smith alligator armed the first try and couldn’t secure the second.

As it turned out, the third shot rang true. The Saints flipped the play and got Smith running across the field, having shed Falcons safety Ricardo Allen in traffic to run wide open into the end zone, where Hill rifled the ball in for six points. Wil Lutz’s extra-point try was good, and New Orleans took an early lead.

But it was set up by another big play from Hill: a 43-yard scramble down the sideline, sprinting a tightrope to stay in bounds. That run wasn’t just the longest play from scrimmage of the year for Hill, but a career-best rushing attempt, too. See it for yourself:

Chiefs’ Andy Reid had perfect response to Travis Kelce’s failed touchdown pass

Coach Reid didn’t have to do Travis Kelce like that.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce nearly got that touchdown pass that he’s been chasing since 2017 on Sunday.

The Chiefs unleashed another one of their patented creative plays in the red zone against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It involved Patrick Mahomes sending himself in pre-snap motion, and a double reverse to Kelce. Of course, Kelce had two options on the play, to run in the touchdown himself or throw a pass to Mahomes. Kelce opted for the latter, but the pass was deflected.

After the game, when Andy Reid spoke to the media he was asked about his thoughts on the play.

“Son of a gun, that’s why they moved him to tight end at Cincinnati,” Reid exclaimed. “Son of a gun. We probably should have scored there. 24 (Carlton Davis) did a nice job on that play, though. Anyways, yeah, we’ll get the next one.”

Of course, Kelce was recruited as a quarterback at the University of Cincinnati before he was converted to a tight end, playing the position in his final two seasons with the Bearcats. Quite an honest response from Reid on this one.

Kelce is now 1-of-3 passing during his career. His first pass was an interception against the Giants back in 2017. The other came against the Raiders last week. Despite his lack of success, it sounds like Reid will give him some more chances.

Here’s a look at the play against the Bucs:

Mahomes actually spoke a bit about the play too, explaining its origin, name and the reason why it might have failed.

“Me and Travis (Kelce) made it up first off and we called it Black Pearl because we were bringing it to the Bucs and the Pirates of the Caribbean and everything like that and I talked him into it,” Mahomes explained. “Coach (Andy) Reid for sure told him if he can run it, run it in there first, but I just talked to him on the side and was like, ‘If I’m open man, just throw it to me’ and I think that little hesitation that he had was just because I talked to him too much about it.”

It’s pretty cool that Mahomes continues to develop these plays and bring them to Reid and the coaching staff. As for the failed play, when Mahomes tells you to jump, you jump. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out this time, but you can rest assured they’ll continue to work on getting Kelce a touchdown pass and Mahomes a touchdown reception.

Former Texas QB Garrett Gilbert may not get to start Cowboys’ next game

On Sunday, former Texas Longhorns quarterback Garrett Gilbert made his first NFL start. He and the Dallas Cowboys lost 24-19 to the Steelers

On Sunday afternoon former Texas quarterback, who spent three years in Austin before transferring to SMU, earned his first NFL start. With so many injuries surrounding the Dallas Cowboys, Garrett Gilbert started his first NFL game even though he was in the league since 2014.  Injuries to Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton made it possible. His first assignment would be none other than the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

Matching up with the No. 4 ranked scoring defense in the league with an offensive line ravaged by injury is no easy task. It seemed as though Gilbert was up for the challenge. Through  three quarters he had the Cowboys in position to win with a 19-9 lead. The Steelers offense would break through scoring 15 points in the fourth to secure the win, 24-19.

Overall, Gilbert looked good. For a guy in his first start you didn’t see the jitters and commanded the huddle. They just couldn’t do enough to win but it was a positive sign for the team. He definitely earned the opportunity to start again, unless you ask head coach Mike McCarthy.

According to the Athletic’s Jon Machota, the run for Gilbert may come to an end before it even gets started. Andy Dalton was placed on the COVID-19 list before the Steelers game and could return when they come off their bye week.

If it isn’t with Dallas, hopefully the play of Garrett Gilbert earns him another opportunity somewhere.

WATCH: Former Texas Longhorns quarterback throws first NFL touchdown

Former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert threw his first touchdown in the NFL to CeeDee Lamb. Watch the moment here.

Once upon a time, this former Texas Longhorns quarterback was playing in the national championship as a freshman.

Fast forward a decade, and he is making his first start for the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett Gilbert hasn’t had an easy road to the NFL. He made multiple stops until getting the call to come to the Cowboys. His first challenge was the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the second quarter with his team leading 3-0, Gilbert was looking to put the Cowboys up 10-0 against the top team in the NFL. Former Oklahoma Sooner CeeDee Lamb gave him the opportunity to complete his first touchdown pass in the NFL.

That pass gave the Cowboys a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Gilbert has completed 7-of-10 passes for 89 yards and that touchdown. He is also the leading rusher for the Cowboys with 28 yards. Cowboys currently lead 13-6 just before halftime. Can Gilbert win his first start in the NFL?
