Lions held tryouts for 3 DBs this week

The Detroit Lions held tryouts for 3 DBs this week including one-time Dolphins starter Torry McTyer

There were a few extra defensive backs in Allen Park this week. The Detroit Lions hosted three DBs late in the week on tryouts, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

The Lions held auditions for safety Shyheim Carter as well as cornerbacks Torry McTyer and Khalil Dorsey. All three are young players who have bounced around various NFL training camps and practice squads. McTyer has played some meaningful reps in his career, starting four games in 2018 for the Miami Dolphins and also earning reps with the Bengals and Commanders.

Update–the Lions signed Dorsey to the practice squad.

It was a rough day for the Washington Football Team on Sunday despite picking up their second victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Washington suffered numerous injuries to starters throughout the game, such as tight end Logan Thomas, guard Brandon Scherff, linebacker Jon Bostic, and running back Antonio Gibson.

Those injuries weren’t the only bad news for Washington.

In the game’s final play, Washington cornerback Torry McTyer suffered a knee injury and was carted off the field.

On Monday, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed McTyer suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season. This is sad and unfortunate for a young player who wasn’t expected to compete for a roster spot yet won a spot after a strong summer and training camp.

McTyer received his first significant playing time of the season on Sunday with rookie cornerback Benjamin St-Juste out with a concussion.

With McTyer now lost for the season, Washington’s depth at corner will be tested. Darryl Roberts should play more and Troy Apke, primarily a special-teams standout, is also on the roster.

Washington’s injury updates following preseason Week 3 vs. Ravens

A look at the injuries facing Washington after its third and final preseason game. Things look good.

The Washington Football Team completed the preseason with a 1-2 record after Saturday’s 37-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

No one cares about the loss to the Ravens — except John Harbaugh.

The good news for Washington, and its head coach, Ron Rivera, is the lack of injuries heading into the regular season.

After the loss to Baltimore, Rivera gave an update on a pair of players who missed the game.

Rookie safety Darrick Forrest has been nursing a hamstring injury over the past week. The timing is unfortunate for the fifth-round pick, and he could be ticketed for the practice squad.

Rivera said the team would likely know more about Forrest’s injury on Sunday.

Second-year defensive end James Smith-Williams, the top backup to Chase Young and Montez Sweat, missed the game with a leg injury. It doesn’t appear to be a long-term issue.

Finally, there is cornerback Torry McTyer, who made his second consecutive start. McTyer left the game early with a concussion. He is now entered into the NFL’s concussion protocol program.

Washington came out of the preseason with no major injuries. Now, the team gets two weeks to prepare for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The top takeaways from Washington’s 17-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Washington Football Team picked up their first preseason win of 2021 after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 17-13 on Friday at FedEx Field.

Washington played its starters through the first quarter, with Taylor Heinicke replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback at the beginning of the second quarter.

According to head coach Ron Rivera after the game, the coaching staff wanted to see a set number of plays from the first-team offense. Once they reached that number, Rivera brought in Heinicke and some of Washington’s other reserves.

Here are five takeaways from Washington’s win over the Bengals.
