Torry Holt, Henry Ellard among Hall of Fame semifinalists for Class of 2023

Torry Holt has once again been voted a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with Henry Ellard being one for the 1st time 👏

Rams legend Torry Holt is one step closer to potentially becoming the next member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Henry Ellard is right there with him, too. On Tuesday, it was announced that Holt and Ellard are among 28 semifinalists for the Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

It’s Holt’s ninth time being a semifinalist, so he’s come close to making it to Canton before. The next step is for Holt to be voted a finalist, which he’s done in each of the last three years. That list of finalists will be revealed in December, with the final class being announced in February.

Holt played 10 seasons with the Rams, catching 869 passes for 12,660 yards and 74 touchdowns. He ranks second in franchise history in receptions and receiving yards. He won one Super Bowl with the team before eventually finishing his career with the Jaguars.

During his Rams career, he was voted a Pro Bowler seven times and was a first-team All-Pro once. He led the league in receiving twice: 2000 when he had 1,635 yards and 2003 when he finished with 1,696 yards and a league-high 117 catches.

Ellard is a semifinalist for the first time after playing 16 seasons in the NFL, 11 with the Rams. He caught 814 passes totaling 13,777 yards in his career, scoring 65 touchdowns.

He only made the Pro Bowl three times, but more impressively, he was an All-Pro twice. Ellard ranks 15th all-time in career receiving yards and 34th in receptions.

Holt’s former teammate, Steven Jackson, was unfortunately not among the 28 semifinalists for the Hall of Fame. This was his third year of eligibility and he has yet to make it to the semifinalist stage.

Steven Jackson, Torry Holt among nominees for Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023

Steven Jackson and Torry Holt are once again nominees for the Hall of Fame Class of 2023

For the third year in a row, Steven Jackson and Torry Holt are among the nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A total of 129 modern-era nominees were announced on Tuesday, with Jackson and Holt representing the Rams. None of the first-time nominees played with the Rams, but that group includes Joe Thomas, Dwight Freeney and Darrelle Revis, all of whom should make it in at some point, if not on the first ballot.

Jackson is in his third year of eligibility but has been unable to make it past the first stage of voting. Holt, on the other hand, has been a semifinalist eight years in a row and a finalist in each of the last three years.

Jackson rushed for 10,138 yards in nine years with the Rams, proving to be the model of consistency by rushing for at least 1,000 yards in eight straight years. He finished his career with the Falcons and Patriots, from 2013-2015, totaling 11,438 yards during his time in the NFL, including those three seasons.

Holt led the NFL in receiving twice and also had at least 1,000 yards in eight straight years. He was an All-Pro in 2003 and was a seven-time Pro Bowler, spending 10 seasons with the Rams and totaling 12,660 yards with 74 touchdowns.

Torry Holt is expecting a stellar season from Allen Robinson in 2022

Allen Robinson had a disappointing season in 2021 with the Bears, but Torry Holt expects him to bounce back with the Rams in 2022.

Allen Robinson had the worst year of his career with the Chicago Bears in 2021, recording just 38 receptions, 410 yards and one touchdown – all career-lows. But with a change of scenery and an upgrade at the quarterback position, Torry Holt believes that Robinson is going to make a massive impact in 2022.

When asked what he expects from Robinson this season, Holt said “big things.”

Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowler and a former Super Bowl champion with the Rams, understands what it takes for a wide receiver to deliver a productive season in the NFL. The future Hall of Famer pointed to Robinson’s ability to make contested catches and create separation as reasons why he’ll succeed in Los Angeles.

“He can win the 50-50 balls consistently, he can also run routes, which gives himself an opportunity to be open and be available for Matthew Stafford,” Holt said.

Even though some of the variables as to why he struggled in 2021 were out of his control, there were plenty of people that discredited Robinson for his uninspiring numbers. However, the outlook on Robinson has quickly shifted since he signed with the Rams earlier this offseason.

Before his forgettable season in 2021, Robinson produced three 1,000-yard seasons with guys like Mitch Trubisky, Nick Foles, and Blake Bortles as his quarterback. The talented wideout will now get an opportunity to catch passes from Matthew Stafford, who is by far the best quarterback Robinson has had a chance to play with.

It’s telling how aggressive Sean McVay was in recruiting Robinson to the Rams this offseason, especially after a downtrodden season. With an offensive guru in McVay, Stafford as his quarterback, and a chance to play alongside Cooper Kupp, Holt is on board the Robinson bounce-back train entering the upcoming season.

Torry Holt hosted an AMA on Reddit, answering questions from fans in a public setting. Here are some highlights from the chat.

Torry Holt opened up and answered questions from fans during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Tuesday, sharing insight on not only his playing career, but his memories off the field.

Dick Vermeil will try to use his ‘stronger voice’ as a Hall of Famer to get Torry Holt in, too

Dick Vermeil has been campaigning for Torry Holt to get into the Hall of Fame, and he’ll have a stronger case now as a Hall of Famer himself

Torry Holt has patiently waited his turn to get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s been a finalist three years in a row, but he has yet to break through and be enshrined in Canton.

His time should come at some point, and until it does, his former coach Dick Vermeil will be campaigning for Holt to get into the Hall of Fame.

Vermeil was selected as a member of the Class of 2022 and now that he’s a Hall of Famer, he’s going to be in the ears of voters suggesting that they put Holt through for all that he accomplished in the NFL.

“I’ll have a stronger voice. I’ve written letter, I’ve talked to people that vote. He deserves to be in there,” Vermeil said on NFL Network. “As we all know, and I know this more so myself as a coach, there’s a lot of people that deserve to be in there just as much as I do. And I’m looking forward to being an advocate for them. But I’m in a better position now to look people in the face and the eyes and say, ‘Listen, Torry Holt belongs there. He’s done some things that receivers that other receivers that are already in the Hall of Fame have not done.’”

Holt has seen his former teammates make it to Canton, from Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner to Orlando Pace and Isaac Bruce. Holt was an integral part of those decorated Rams teams, and he has the numbers to back up his case as a Hall of Famer.

He was a seven-time Pro Bowler, first-team All-Pro in 2003 and ranks 16th all-time in career receiving yards with 13,382. He deserves to have a bust in Canton.

Torry Holt snubbed from Pro Football Hall of Fame again in 2022

Torry Holt was snubbed from the Pro Football Hall of Fame once again, coming up short in 2022.

Torry Holt was a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame eight times. He was a finalist three times. And yet, he’s still waiting his turn.

The Hall of Fame announced the Class of 2022 on Thursday and Holt was not one of the eight members elected to Canton. One of the best receivers in NFL history was snubbed once again.

During his 10-year career with the Rams, Holt caught 869 passes for 12,660 yards and 74 touchdowns. He has the second-most catches and receiving yards in Rams history, behind only the great Isaac Bruce – who was elected to the Hall of Fame as a member of the 2020 class two years ago.

Bruce won one Super Bowl with the Rams and was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times, leading the NFL in receptions (117) and yards (1,696) in 2003 when he earned his first and only All-Pro selection.

He went eight straight years from 2000-2007 with at least 1,000 yards receiving, leading the NFL in yards twice during his career.

Bruce will need to wait another year to have a shot at the Hall of Fame again, hopefully getting in as a member of the 2023 class.

Former Rams coach Dick Vermeil elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Dick Vermeil is headed to the Hall of Fame as a member of the 2022 class.

The Rams have added another member of their franchise to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Rams head coach Dick Vermeil was elected as a member of the Class of 2022 on Thursday night at the NFL Honors show.

Vermeil was only with the Rams for three seasons, but his final year in St. Louis was a memorable one. He led the Rams to a 13-3 record, NFC West title and a Super Bowl ring.

The Rams beat the Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV to cap off the 1999 season, Vermeil’s first and only Super Bowl championship. He finished his Rams career with a 22-26 overall record, but in his 15 years as an NFL head coach, he went 120-109, also reaching the playoffs with the Eagles and Chiefs.

Below is the full 2022 Hall of Fame class, which you’ll notice doesn’t include Torry Holt. He was unfortunately snubbed once again, his third year as a finalist.

Torry Holt speaks out on how a Super Bowl win would alter Matthew Stafford’s legacy

Torry Holt appeared on NFL Network to talk about how Matthew Stafford can bolster his legacy with a win in the Super Bowl.

Torry Holt knows a thing or two about winning Super Bowls as he was a member of the St. Louis Rams when the organization won their last Super Bowl in the 1999 season. The legendary wideout was a rookie in 1999 and went on to have a storied career in the NFL, but he knows just how much a Super Bowl win means in the eyes of fans and the media.

Ahead of Matthew Stafford’s first Super Bowl, Holt laid out how a victory in the Super Bowl could alter the veteran quarterback’s legacy.

Stafford entered this season as a quarterback that had gaudy numbers during his tenure with the Detroit Lions. Earlier this season, Stafford became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards.

While the numbers have been impressive, Stafford failed to win a single playoff game with the Lions. When Stafford arrived in Los Angeles, some people criticized him for his lack of postseason success and labeled that as a reason why the Rams wouldn’t benefit from acquiring him.

Fast forward to now and Stafford now has three playoff wins under his belt, including a victory over Tom Brady in the divisional round. The ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl, so Stafford knows that the journey is far from over for the Rams as they prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium.

Whether it’s fair or not, quarterbacks are typically judged by the number of wins and Super Bowl rings they have when their careers are over. There are exceptions like Dan Marino, who is considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history despite failing to win a Super Bowl.

At 33 years old, Stafford has put together quite the career in the NFL and Holt realizes that a Super Bowl could bolster Stafford’s already-impressive resume.

Torry Holt among 15 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists for 2022

Rams legend Torry Holt is one step closer to being a Hall of Famer.

Rams legend Torry Holt has come close to making the Pro Football Hall of Fame in each of the last two years, being selected as a finalist for the Class of 2020 and 2021.

He’s now made it three straight years as a finalist after being selected once again for the 2022 class. The Hall of Fame announced the 15 finalists on Thursday, with Devin Hester, DeMarcus Ware and Andre Johnson joining Holt.

In 10 seasons with the Rams, Holt caught a total of 869 passes for 12,660 yards and 74 touchdowns. He is second in Rams history in receptions and receiving yards, finishing his career as one of the all-time greats.

Holt was named a first-team All-Pro in 2003 and was voted into the Pro Bowl seven times. His 921 receptions rank 21st all-time in NFL history and his 13,382 yards rank him 16th.

Torry Holt voted a Hall of Fame semifinalist, Steven Jackson comes up short again

Torry Holt is a Hall of Fame semifinalist for the eighth time, but Steven Jackson missed the cut in his second year of eligibility.

Torry Holt has been deserving of a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a long time, and he’ll get another crack at Canton in 2022. The Hall of Fame announced the 26 semifinalists for the Class of 2022 and Holt was selected one again.

It’s his eighth straight year being named a semifinalist, dating all the way back to 2015. Unfortunately, fellow Rams legend Steven Jackson was not voted a semifinalist in his second year of eligibility.

Holt is the only former Rams player who was voted a semifinalist for the 2022 class, attempting to join his former teammate Isaac Bruce, who was inducted as a member of the Class of 2020.

Holt won one Super Bowl in 10 years with the Rams, earning seven Pro Bowl selections – more than even Bruce had. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2003 when he led the NFL in receptions (117) and yards (1,696).

From 2000-2007, Holt recorded at least 1,100 yards each year, leading the league in receiving twice. He finished his 11-year career with 920 catches, 13,382 yards and 74 touchdowns.
