The Toronto Blue Jays (85-67) and Tampa Bay Rays (84-68) wrap up a 4-game set Sunday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rays lead 10-8

Blue Jays starter RHP Alek Manoah threw 7 innings of scoreless baseball in a 3-1 win at the Rays Saturday. He gave up 4 H with 8 K while throwing a season-high 113 pitches in the win.

Toronto 2B Whit Merrifield hit a tiebreaking 3-run HR in the 7th inning to give it a 1-game lead over Tampa Bay for the top spot in the AL wild-card standings.

Rays starter RHP Drew Rasmussen allowed 1 ER on 3 H with 5 K through 6 1/3 IP in the loss Saturday. It was Rasmussen’s 3rd consecutive loss. Rays OF Randy Arozarena finished with 2 H and became the first Tampa Bay player and 20th in the history of MLB to have 40 doubles, 20 HRs and 30 stolen bases in a season.

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 3, Rays 0

Money line

BET BLUE JAYS (+115).

Toronto snapped out of its slump Saturday. Stripling has only given up over 3 ER in 1 of his last 23 appearances. Expect a Toronto win to tie the series 2-2.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

Blue Jays +1.5 (-200) is too expensive when Toronto should win straight up. Take the ML instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-107).

McClanahan has had success against Toronto hitters this season and it is unlikely that Stripling gives up over 3 ER. Expect a low-scoring affair.

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (84-67) and Tampa Bay Rays (84-67) play the third game of a 4-game set Saturday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rays lead 10-7

The Blue Jays are tied with the Rays for the lead in the AL wild-card standings after a 10-6 loss Friday at Tampa Bay. Toronto SS Bo Bichette and 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both hit an RBI single off Rays LHP Jeffrey Springs as part of a 4-run 5th inning that gave the Blue Jays a temporary lead.

Rays LF Randy Arozarena finished with 6 RBI and hit his 20th HR Friday in the win that clinched the season series and the tiebreaker for the Rays. The game-winning run for Tampa Bay came on a LF David Peralta pinch-hit sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner 3B Taylor Walls in the 8th inning. Springs allowed 3 ER on 6 H with 6 K through 5 IP in the no-decision. RHP Javy Guerra recorded the win in a relief appearance.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Alek Manoah vs. RHP Drew Rasmussen

Manoah (14-7, 2.40 ERA) makes his 30th start. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 8.2 K/9 through 183 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 5 K in a no-decision vs. the Baltimore Orioles Sunday

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 4, Rays 2

Money line

BET BLUE JAYS (-105).

Toronto is in desperation mode. Its lead in the AL wild-card standings is finally in danger. Blue Jays ace Manoah is the starter this team needs to revive their winning ways.

Run line/Against the spread

BET BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+170).

When Toronto has won lately, it has won by margin. Toronto’s last 5 wins have all been by 3 runs or more. Tampa Bay has a similar stat in defeat, losing by 3 or more runs in 5 of its last 6 losses.

Over/Under

PASS.

The number is too low. If the total reaches 7.5 or higher, the Under would be a strong play.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (84-66) and Tampa Bay Rays (83-67) play the second game of a 4-game set Friday at Tropicana Field. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rays lead 9-7

The Blue Jays are just 1 game ahead of the Rays in the AL wild-card standings after a 10-5 loss at Tampa Bay Friday. Blue Jays OF Whit Merrifield hit 2 HR and OF Teoscar Hernández added a solo shot in Toronto’s third loss in its last 4 games. Blue Jays starter RHP José Berríos allowed 6 ER and 7 H in 2 IP.

Rays SS Wander Franco batted in 3 runs and IF Jonathan Aranda hit a lead-off HR in the series opener. DH Randy Arozarena finished with 3 H and 2 RBIs as the Rays bounced back after getting swept at home in a 3-game series vs. the Houston Astros.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Mitch White vs. LHP Jeffrey Springs

White (1-6, 5.05 ERA) makes his 17th start and 23rd appearance of the season. He has a 1.41 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 through 87 1/3 IP.

  • Only career appearance vs. the Rays: 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 2 K in a no-decision Sept. 13
  • Has allowed 3 or more ER in 4 straight starts

Springs (9-4, 2.45 ERA) makes his 23rd start and 31st appearance. He has a 1.09 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 through 121 1/3 IP.

  • Last start vs. Toronto: 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 5 K in Sept. 13 win

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 4, Rays 2

Money line

BET BLUE JAYS (+120).

Springs pitched 6 scoreless innings in a win the last time he faced Toronto, but this desperate Blue Jays team should be more competitive Friday in an attempt to not lose its lead in the AL wild-card standings. Toronto has not lost 3 consecutive games since Aug. 26-28 vs. the Los Angeles Angels.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Blue Jays are a good ML bet as underdogs, but the Toronto +1.5 (-180) RL is too expensive to bet. Take the plus money on the ML instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 7.5 (-130).

White has not looked like himself since going to Toronto. The former Los Angles Dodgers hurler has posted a 7.47 ERA since becoming a Blue Jay in August. White’s uncharacteristic rough stretch should come to an end now as he continues to settle in.

Springs should also help this game stay under the total as he has only allowed 2 ER across 4 September starts.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (84-65) and Tampa Bay Rays (82-67) open a 4-game set Thursday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rays lead 8-7

The Blue Jays blew a late 3-run lead in a 4-3 extra-inning loss Wednesday at the Philadelphia Phillies. Toronto 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a tiebreaking 3-run HR in the 8th inning, but Philadelphia eventually cashed its live money line of +1600 in the 10th inning. Blue Jays All-Star 2B Santiago Espinal left the game with left-side discomfort.

Guerrero is batting .306 (3 HRs, 7 RBI) during his current 14-game hitting streak for the Blue Jays, who lead the AL wild-card standings.

The Rays were swept by the Astros in a 3-game series after a 5-2 loss at home Wednesday. Tampa Bay was outscored 14-2 in the series.

With the Rays owning the 3rd-lowest attendance in MLB this season, that may be a factor in Tampa Bay opening as a home underdog for the third consecutive game.

The Rays are 2nd in the AL wild-card standings, 2 games back.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP José Berríos vs. RHP JT Chargois

Berríos (11-5, 4.99 ERA) makes his 30th start. He has a 1.38 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in 158 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K in Saturday win vs. the Baltimore Orioles
  • Has won 6 of last 7 decisions
  • 2022 vs. Rays: 1-0, 2.38 ERA (11 1/3 IP, 3 ER)

Chargois (2-0, 2.76 ERA) makes his 3rd start and 17th appearance. He has a 0.98 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 16 1/3 IP.

  • 2022 vs. Toronto: 0-0, 0.00 ERA (2 1/3 IP), 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K in 2 relief appearances
  • Rays LHP Ryan Yarbrough (2-8, 4.33 ERA, 79 IP, 38 ER, 9 starts and 10 relief appearances) will follow opener Chargois

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 3

Money line

BET BLUE JAYS (-125).

The Blue Jays looked good Wednesday until the bullpen gave up 3 runs in the 8th inning. Expect Toronto to bounce back from a heart-breaking loss.

The Blue Jays should also be extra focused Thursday since the last time they saw the Rays was an 11-0 Tampa Bay win in Toronto Sept. 15.

Run line/Against the spread

BET BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+135).

Five of Tampa Bay’s last 6 losses have been by 3 or more runs. Toronto’s last 5 wins have been by 3 or more runs.

The Blue Jays have been dominant in their recent wins while the Rays seem to completely fall apart when they’re behind.

Over/Under

PASS.

The Under is 5-2 in the last 7 head-to-head meetings. The Over is 7-0 in Berríos’ last 7 starts on the road vs. a team with a record above .500.

There are too many conflicting trends, and it is hard to predict how many runs an inconsistent Berríos will allow Thursday.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (85-66) and Tampa Bay Rays (93-59) play the finale of a three-game set at Tropicana Field Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Blue Jays RHP Julian Merryweather (0-1, 4.91 ERA) makes his first start in his ninth appearance of the season. He has allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 7 strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings.

  • Has made four appearances since returning from the injured list Sept. 10. Didn’t complete more than 1 inning in any of those relief outings.
  • Allowed 6 ER over 13 IP in the big leagues with Toronto last year.

Rays RHP Luis Patino (4-3, 4.73 ERA) enters his 15th start and 17th appearance with a 1.35 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 8.8 K/9.

  • Matched a season-high with 6 IP Friday against the Detroit Tigers but allowed 4 ER on 6 H and 1 BB with 4 K.
  • Has allowed nine baserunners and 5 ER across 8 IP against Toronto this season.

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Rays 4

Money line (ML)

The BLUE JAYS (+105) are a strong play for the series win in the finale. While there is plenty of risk with Merryweather on the bump, subbing for the injured LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu, I don’t trust Patino for the Rays, either.

The Blue Jays are 10-1 in their last 11 in Game 3 of a series and 10-2 in their last 12 road games.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

BLUE JAYS +1.5 (-190) is worth a play if you don’t quite feel the visitors straight up in this series finale. While Tropicana Field has been a house of horrors for the Jays over the years, they won Tuesday’s game, and they can achieve a series win against the mediocre Patino.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 8.5 (-130) is a good play with Merryweather and Patino putting up just so-so numbers lately. The offense will certainly outpace the pitching in this potential playoff matchup.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (84-65) and Tampa Bay Rays (92-58) meet Monday at 7:10 p.m. ET to open a three-game series at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Let’s analyze the lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Robbie Ray is the projected starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. He is 12-5 with a 2.64 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 over 177 1/3 IP through 29 starts.

  • Faced the Rays on Wednesday and allowed 1 run on 4 hits across 7 IP. Did not walk a batter while fanning 13.
  • Current Tampa Bay batters own an aggregate .573 OPS against him.
  • Has posted a 14.9 K/9 alongside a 1.80 ERA over his last six starts, and allowed more than 2 ER just twice in the second half of the season.

RHP Shane Baz is the projected starting pitcher for the Rays. Baz is a 22-year-old making his Major League debut.

  • Originally tabbed for a Friday start before being scratched due to back spasms.
  • Considered to be Tampa Bay’s top pitching prospect. Notched a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with 64K and 11 BB over 46 innings at Triple-A after opening the season at the Double-A level.

Blue Jays at Rays odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:28 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 2

Money line (ML)

Surging Toronto took two of three games from the Minnesota Twins over the weekend and is a robust 15-3 in September. The Blue Jays enter this series one game behind the Boston Red Sox for the top Wild Card spot in the American League.

The Rays lost Saturday and Sunday home games to the Detriot Tigers and are just 8-10 through 18 games this month. The back-to-back losses at Tropicana stand as an outlier: Tampa Bay had gone 24-10 with a .798 OPS in its previous 34 games at home.

The Jays took two of three games from the Rays last week in Toronto, but for the season Tampa Bay holds a 9-7 edge through 16 meetings.

Toronto is the lean on the money line and is a solid, but not spectacular, play for run-line-averse players. Otherwise, PASS, and take a crack at the Jays winning by multiple runs.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Peg Tampa Bay as too far over its skis with its offensive production. The Rays also have a left lean which plays into a sizable platoon advantage for Ray who has held lefty bats to a .577 OPS this season. Ray has also been tough on this collection of hitters and is on an absolute roll in the second half.

TAKE TORONTO -1.5 (+125).

Over/Under (O/U)

Fading the Tampa offense and pegging the Blue Jays bullpen as being an improved unit (a trend being masked by a 25.5% home run/fly ball rate in September), the UNDER 7.5 (-105) has a slight lean.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (44-42) and Tampa Bay Rays (53-36) play the finale of a three-game set Sunday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Robbie Ray is the projected starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. He is 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 over 93 2/3 IP across 16 starts.

Despite taking the loss Ray was impressive last Sunday at Sahlen Field against these same Rays. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts across 7 innings as the Jays lost 5-1.

LHP Rich Hill is the projected starting pitcher for the Rays. He is 6-3 with a 3.65 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 8.9 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 over 86 1/3 IP through 17 starts.

Hill allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts across 3 2/3 innings receiving a no-decision Monday against the Indians in his last start.

  • Money line: Blue Jays -125 (bet $125 to win $100) | Rays +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blue Jays -1.5 (+125) | Rays +1.5 (-155)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Rays 5, Blue Jays 3

Money line (ML)

The RAYS (+105) are a decent play as slight ‘dogs in the finale as they look for the three-game series sweep behind Hill. While the southpaw’s spin rate and velocity have been down lately, and he hasn’t been going terribly deep into games, Hill still seems to do it with smoke and mirrors while limiting the damage when he is in the game.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The RAYS +1.5 (-155) are worth a small-unit wager on the run line against Ray. Yes, the Toronto southpaw pitched very well last time out against Tampa Bay, but teams usually bounce back in successive starts by using what they learned last time out to produce better results at the plate. They’ll especially be able to do that on their home field where Ray won’t be as comfortable.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8.5 (-105) is the lean here. Tampa Bay has hit the Under in three straight, and the Under is 5-1 in the last six for the Rays against divisional foes – including the first two games in this series.

The Under is 5-0 in Toronto’s last five against a left-handed starting pitcher, and 5-1 in the last six on the road vs. LHP.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (44-41) and Tampa Bay Rays (52-36) play the second game of a three-game set Saturday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Ross Stripling is the projected starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. He is 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 71 IP across 13 starts and 1 relief appearance.

Stripling allowed just one run and two hits with three walks over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays July 3.

He has no decisions with an 0.71 ERA while allowing four hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts across 12 2/3 innings in one start and a relief outing vs. TB this season.

LHP Ryan Yarbrough is the projected starting pitcher for the Rays. He is 5-3 with a 4.34 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 over 91 1/3 IP through 12 starts and 5 relief appearances.

Yarbrough allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks with five strikeouts in a win in Buffalo against the Blue Jays July 4. He also had a quality start in a no-decision May 24 in Buffalo against the Jays yielding three runs, three hits and no walks with four strikeouts in six frames.

Overall he has a 1-0 record, 2.16 ERA and .169 opponent batting average in two starts and three appearances vs. TOR this season.

Blue Jays at Rays odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 6:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blue Jays -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Rays -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blue Jays -1.5 (+155) | Rays +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Rays 4, Blue Jays 2

Money line (ML)

The RAYS (-115) have pieced together a nice five-game win streak, and they’re a solid play at home against the Blue Jays (-105) in what could be a surprisingly well-pitched game.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The RAYS +1.5 (-190) are a little more expensive than I’d like, and I’d rather just play the money line here. However, Tampa is a decent play on the run line if you want a little insurance.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8 (+100) is a surprising value at even money given the strong pitching matchup. Take advantage. The Under cashed last time Yarbrough faced the Jays, and the Under is 4-2 across the past six games for the Rays.

The Under also connected in Stripling’s most recent outing against the Jays and has connected in each of his past four starts.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (44-40) visit the Tampa Bay Rays (51-36) for a three-game weekend set beginning Friday with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Tropicana Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Blue Jays RHP Alek Manoah (2-0, 2.70 ERA) will make his eighth start and enters Friday with a 1.01 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 through his first 36 2/3 MLB innings.

  • Threw 7 scoreless innings with just 3 hits and 1 walk allowed against 10 strikeouts in a win over the Rays last Friday
  • Pitching on extra rest after Thursday’s scheduled start against the Baltimore Orioles was postponed

Rays LHP Shane McClanahan (3-3, 4.18 ERA) makes the 13th start of his rookie season. He has a 1.23 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 through 56 IP.

  • Gave up 3 ER on 3 H and 2 BB over 5 1/3 IP in a road loss against the Jays Saturday; he makes his third appearance of the season against them Friday
  • He’s 3-0 at home but has a 4.63 ERA compared to an 0-3 record but 3.86 ERA on the road

Blue Jays at Rays odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blue Jays +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Rays -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blue Jays +1.5 (-180) |  Rays -1.5 (+150)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 2

Money line (ML)

Back the BLUE JAYS (+110) as short road underdogs at even money. Manoah had a season-high 10 strikeouts in the longest outing of his rookie season against the Rays in his last start and received an extra day of rest with Thursday’s rainout.

McClanahan’s home numbers don’t suggest his perfect record at Tropicana Field is sustainable, and the Blue Jays are seventh in MLB with a .764 team OPS against left-handed pitching.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Go to the alternate lines and back BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+180) for a win by 2 or more runs for the visitors.

The Rays have a modest team OPS of .726 against right-handed pitchers and have the fourth-worst strikeout rate in the split. Manoah took full advantage of that just last week.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 8 (-105) is a nice complimentary play to either of the above two selections of the Blue Jays. Both rookie starters pitch deep into games and the bullpens are well rested with both teams having Thursday off.

The Toronto and Tampa Bay bullpens are sixth and seventh, respectively, by xFIP over the last 14 days.
